I don’t think Ruehl is in Oakbrook anymore, but I want to write a review anyway. I remember visiting this store many years ago. It’s very much like Hollister and Abercrombie, but geared toward those in their mid twenties to early thirties. The most striking difference was the ads inside. Most of them verged on soft porn. Even Lover’s Lane is less sexually-charged than this place. Let’s be real; most women will not go into this store and think«I’m gonna be like that hot, objectified, topless chick in the sepia ad when I buy Ruehl jeans!!!» No. Sex sells, sure… but put a top on the model, please. This is a clothing store, after all. It doesn’t help that the lights are dimmed and music is blaring, giving off vibes of what I’m sure a brothel is like. Show off the color of the clothes in the picture so I know what to buy, or I’ll go to a place without creepy ads, like American Eagle. Of what I remember, the clothes were not much different than what you’d get at Abercrombie: overpriced, flimsy, and bland. Thank goodness I stopped liking the style, or I would’ve wasted a lot of money. If you like the style though, you’re far better off buying them from a used clothing store, where you’ll pay half the price. Other than the stupid ads, loud music, and poor lighting, I’ll give credit for the interior design of the store. It’s definitely over-the-top and too much just for a store you won’t visit for more than 30 minutes, but I thought a couch near the fitting room with lots of fluffy pillows(almost like a bed.?) was kind of cool. I wouldn’t return just for that though.

I went in her with my cousin after wondering what this place was like. This place was like a maze full of mirros. So like a fun house full of clothes. Their clothes were similar to those of A&F and Hollister, so basically nothing special. I guess the only difference is that they have nice leather handbags but for $ 200+, I rather pay a little bit more for a Gucci. After about three turns I decided to back track and leave as I was afraid of swallowed by the empty store. Now I know why I don’t see people wearing clothes from Ruehl.

I think this is a really cool concept for a clothing store. A brick rowhouse façade and the interior is like a lofted apartment with loungey type music. When they first opened up, no one would go in, not knowing what this place was but it’s really cool to just visit and check it out. After seeing this place, one would not be suprised that this company is owned by Abercrombie & Fitch. Now some of you A&F haters out there will get turned off(to be expected), but hear me out. We all know that teeny boppers shop at Hollisters and A&F but where do the older people, the 25 – 40 somethings(usually the one with some more money) shop? Yes, Ruehl is here to serve your needs and wallet. The clothes here are more expensive then one would find at A&F but again, they are trying to serve a different market then teeny boppers. I like their clothes, I think that the clothes are made with higher quality than A&F and the materials/fabrics used is what makes the biggest difference. I cannot get enough of their sweaters!!! I HEARTSWEATERS!!! Considering how I go without a jacket every winter(not that there really is a need this year), a nice sweater keeps me warm. Did I mention that I love sweaters? The service is pretty good too. They have always been helpful to me. One thing that is starting to annoy me is that the teeny boppers are starting to infiltrate this store. Overall, I like this store, I always stop by to see what they have. Usually, after each season, they have everything half off so that is when I do most of my shopping. Awesome concept for a clothes store, nice clothes, another satisfied stylish customer.
