Would never have dreamed Oakbrook easier to reach from the Northshore. It’s a breeze on a Saturday night and, short of what appears to be only valet, perfect for your Ferrari. Heard about their fantastic grotto and agree. Eating outside arrangement is great and your totally removed from the street or surrounding stone offices. Pretty reservationist. Arrived at 730/for an 8. She struggled with my reservation and was quickly irritated. We walked outdoor had a drink and were accmodated quickly. Ordered an assortment of sides The $ 9 double baked potatoe lead the disappointment. It was simply a pile of mash potatoes with tasteless cheese. Four of us couldn’t finish. Basically the sprouts, mushrooms, were also over salted and poor. My bone in filet was basically tasteless. So I conclude I’ve never had this meal at Gibsons in the city or Mortons on the Northshore. So my experiment, short of the drive, disappointing. Might come back for a burger when the Aston needs some excercize.

I’ve been going to Gibsons for many years. I love the Rush St. location…so much positive energy. This day was my better half’s Birthday. She’s grown to like steak so I promised I would take her to a «Chicago Steakhouse». Gibsons did not disappoint in the delivery of a first class prime beef filet mignon. The beef’s flavor and texture were on point. Gibson’s graciously substituted asparagus for mashed potatoes. Our waiter was quite the showman. As he was delivering food to an adjacent table, he turned clockwise in front of Virginia and announced the dish to Virginia before plating at the adjacent table. People at that table found it amusing, and I think so did Virginia. A good value… I prefer crème brûlée with a creamier texture, but that’s simply a critique. Great job guys.

I honestly don’t think Gibson’s can let down in a major way. This restaurant has a deep reputation of great food, excellent service and when you dine here you see why. This is my first time dining at the Oakbrook location and I will say they impressed as well. One plus to this location is the outdoor seating that include the beautiful waterfall. What a nice added touch to sitting outdoors on a warm summer night while sipping a tasty cocktail and eating good food. I just realized there are two pluses, the second being parking. They offer valet(not sure if it’s comp or if there is a fee) but they just take your vehicle literally like 10 steps across the parking lot to the available parking that is plentiful surrounding the restaurant. You can do that yourself. There are always parks. I am sure the valet is just more of a appearance/convenience thing. Like really Gibsons not having valet parking? Even if they really don’t need it, I am sure they still will have it. The service is top notch, down to the bus boy. My server was attentive, suggesting, kind, and funny. I heart a server with a good sense of humor. It really helps the overall ambiance in such a place like this when a lot can assume it’s a predominately pretentious atmosphere. I started off with a lemon drop and man oh man was it good. I must admit I wasn’t all that beside myself for spending $ 13 on a martini here. They give you just enough alcohol to make you not regret the purchase. Many times in 5 star restaurants you are not getting much alcohol to be honest, but I will admit at this Gibsons that is not the case. I ordered the white fish and it was absolutely delicious! I actually have been craving it again and will make it my point to get back there real soon. It was seasoned very well and full of flavor, which I find on white fish at certain establishments to be kinda hit or miss, with most making it a miss and bland. Not Gibsons! It comes with a side of mash potatoes that was tasty and full of flavor too. I really enjoyed dining here and especially dining on the outdoor patio and I am literally texting a friend as I type this asking when we will be heading back.

I think four stars is about right. Very nice place, and not as expensive as places like The Chop House, but its not quite on that level of quality, either. The beef selection was good but not as broad as some places. Their version of Kobe beef is called Wagyu but we did not order that on this trip. The tomahawk ribeye was worth the price, and the lobster that came with the surf and turf was huge… and tender. But I’m writing this review to encourage you to go there and try the Chilean sea bass served on whipped potatoes and grilled asparagus. I have had fresh seafood in Tokyo, Kyoto, Shanghai, Bangkok, and in other places known for their seafood. I’ve eaten my way through San Francisco, Boston and New Orleans, but I have never had a fish dinner that was as good as this one. Thick, white meat, perfectly prepared with a sweet glaze that just knocked me out. Truly the best I’ve had and I love seafood. The crème brûlée was not as creamy as I would have liked but it was still good and was enough for the three of us to split. The service was professional and friendly. Honestly, ya gotta get there and try that sea bass. It was amazing. Dinner for three with everything included and about 7 drinks was around $ 400.

as always, these homies know how to please. first off, great staff. those guys bend over backwards for their patrons and are a big reason why this is a great place to take the family. they are informative, can joke around, are attentive, never let that glass get empty, etc. I always feel like the waiter/waitress is my best friend by the end of the meal secondly, dat steak doe. i wish i lived in the 50s bc i would purposely give myself black eyes just to put their steaks on my face(old people in the 50s use to do that to make the swelling go down right? if not, that sentence was probably pretty weird) steaks on my face. steaks on my face. I got the bone in filet mignon. gotta get dat bone in. all the flavor. all that good good. man, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. in terms of sides, can’t go wrong with the hash browns and mushrooms. I want to do a special shout out tho for the spinach(what up, spinach?) that stuff is bomb. idk why a steak place has the best sautéed spinach in the game but they do. so, TAKETHATVEGANS. beating you at your own game just go here already deuces

Started with the prime Angus carpaccio appetizer then had the signature bone in rib eye with a side of grilled asparagus… oh my, let’s say broke da mouth. I haven’t had a delicious steak dinner like this in a long while. Atmosphere was upbeat, classy and relaxed. Went solo and was well taken care of by my waitress. All around fantastic experience.

Gibson’s bar & steakhouse is a Chicago favorite & a must stop for us when visiting the Windy City. I like the Downtown location best but the location across from McDonald’s HQ is quite nice also. I celebrated my 19th birthday at Gibson’s downtown location many years ago. Good times. This last visit I was informed they were celebrating their 25th anniversary! That’s quite an achievement in the restaurant biz. Rumor is they are one of the top grossing restaurants in the US as well. Guess that’s why all the waiters are career waiters employed there. Service is always stellar. You won’t find a single waiter that has been there less than a decade. The steaks are good & the skirt steak is suppose to be the specialty but that’s not true. It’s the lamb chops that rule & the spinach & Brussels. I could just order the Spinach & Brussels sprouts, the sides are ginormous. The twice baked potato is big enough for a whole Russian Family with left overs. Even thou they are all very good, giant portions are just not my thing. It’s good food with stellar service, However what keeps me returning is the WINELIST! They have a bloody incredible wine list. A mighty fine treasure chest of grog. Johnny Depp aka Jack Sparrow dropped over four grand on dinner for 4 one night & it wasn’t on a Russian size potato & bottle of Rum. Nope. Remember, his tattoo on his arm reads«WINOFOREVER» Arrrr! Avast! Crawl out of ya bloody bunghole(home) drop anchor in the Gibson’s lagoon(Lake Michigan) & feast on the landlubbers salmagundi(lamb chops) & find a vintage grog(wine) or 6 to wash it all down with :)… Arrrr! Captain Sparrow & Wino’s forever Pirate approved ;)

The grand daddy of steak houses. Typically, I’m a guy who thinks«Why go to a steak house when steak is one of the easiest things to cook?» And then when I experience the level of quality of EVERYTHING, I think«Yep, this is why I come here». There is no substitute for Gibson’s. P. S. And a $ 30/bottle corkage fee isn’t so bad either.

Service is impeccable. Menu is large but not overwhelming. Beef carpaccio app — delicious. Arugula and capers complement the subtle flavor of the meat. Parmesan cheese is amazing as well, even on its own. A nice dish to share. Petite filet — cooked a little more than medium rare but still had nice flavor and was very juicy. Grilled asparagus(subbed out the mashed potatoes) were great — smokey and charred slightly. I really liked that the sauces came on the side. I was told the chicken had good flavor but was a bit dry. A side note: I wish the cocktails came with nicer ice… I know that sounds petty but it would give this place a more modern, chic vibe. They just use regular ice out of an ice machine for the old fashions and it’s just kind of a dated look. The fries that came with the steak sliders were amazing — greasy and floppy just the way I like them but i know some ppl like them crispy. They brought me a birthday sundae which was so nice! Thanks guys :) our server did a great job of being attentive. Crème brûlée was too large in my opinion.

Oh man, this place is more of a slaughterhouse than a steakhouse! But meat heaven was great. I had the prime rib and others had the filet and scallops. Everything was delicious. Highlight of the night was the creamed spinach, which exceeded all expectations. After a great meal, the waitress surprised us with a «slice» of a cake on the house. This was the size of 2 of my heads!

Working right across the street has its perks, especially when you get to go to a fancy steakhouse for free meals. Food is always consistent but I haven’t been how do you say. WOW’D. Welcoming bread platter is nice, I have a few coworker’s who are die hard raisin bread fans. Soups are decent, cream of tomato(Monday’s) is very rich and thick if that’s the way you like it, beef barley had very nice chunks of meat but flavour is kind of bland for me. I would recommend the spicy bone in pork chop!

Outstanding service and this is by far the best place to get a steak in Chicagoland. I’ve also tried their seafood and I would recommend the Cajun salmon and crab. If you’re celebrating a birthday there they bring you a massive cake out that is very tasty. FYI — Ladies if you use the washroom, there is an attendant in there, which is nice if you’d like to freshen up.

Vegetarian friendly. Yea. I said it. They can make stuff off the menu to accommodate. But that’s not why I went. I went there for the meat. W.R. Cut. Medium rare I’ve said it before And I’ll say it again. Gibsons is the best overall dining experience there Is in terms of taste. Everything on the menu I’ve ever had at all of their locations Is phenomenal. Don’t need to say anything else. Eat. Oh yea… Parking at this location is sweet too. The crowd: a buncha brats who find it necessary to Put on prom dresses in their 40’s on a Sunday afternoon. Sorry folks, my Walmart hoodie wearing ass is paying the same tab you are. But at least I’m comfortable. Go ahead and judge me. I been judging you as well. :)

Impressive. Gibson’s a la carte menu consistently meets the mark at each location. The Oakbrook location looks exactly like the Rush location. As in you could find the bathroom without issue if you have dined on Rush. It’s exactly the same. The bar area is also when you enter to the right and has a dapper pianist too. There was a flier stating this location has a ladies night raffle for a pair Louboutin’s too. We met another ‘burbanite’ here for dinner on a Monday night. Surprisingly there was a moderate crowd and lively music coming from the bar area. Given the energy, we opted to dine in the bar area instead of cashing in on our dining room reservation. Crabmeat Avocado — 5⁄5 Unlike anything you have ever had. Amazing. Shrimp Remoulade — 4⁄5 All remoulades are not created equal. This can hold its own. Sweet Potato — 4⁄5 The sides are gigantic. Plan to share. Or try to. :) Marinated Flank Steak — 2⁄5 It’s a local favorite but not mine.

Ok so they redeemed themselves 2night. I sat w/Brandy I think and she was an awesome server! Very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Very different experience from the last nut job we sat with here. Glad I came back to try them out again. I will say they’re still a little stiff at 1st when you initially arrive, but they ended up being ok. We ordered crabmeat avacado, marinated skirt steak, & a cheeseburger. Everything was perfect. The drinks were strong as well. We had 2 French Martini’s. I’ll be more open to going bk now.

Good food. Dinners are better. Had lunch there. I just made my mistake of having cream in my coffee. I’m lactose intolerant. So… Having enjoyed lunch was outweighed by my abdominal pains I love their salads and steaks. I love Bernaise sauce with my steak. High calories and not so good for the cholesterol. Desserts are awesome too

Been to this location probably half a dozen times. Always very good experience. Last night we had the half chicken and the skirt steak. The steak was cooked to order — med rare and the chicken was good — crispy and hot, not dry. The sides were wedge(split for two, didn’t need to ask), and half orders of onion rings and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts could have been warmer. Dessert was the cornucopia of fresh berries which came with crème anglaise.(Needs more crème anglaise) The service was right on. Nothing went empty and they didn’t hover at the table. There are several other steak houses in the area and Gibsons is consistently on top.

YUM! I have never had a bad experience at a Gibsons but I just recently might have had my best. We started off with the soup of the day with was creamy tomato and wow. I crave this soup now. It was absolutely amazing and almost tasted like vodka sauce but in soup form. I would go back just for that soup alone. We went for lunch so I steered away from the usual steak and opted with a cheeseburger. Once again, delicious! Might even be up there with one of the best burgers I’ve had. The service is always great and they are always accommodating with their full attention on tables. Lunch also wasn’t very crowded so they didn’t have too many tables to pay attention too.

I was pretty pessimistic coming to eat here the other day because I was just expecting overpriced food that rich people like to pay for. But I actually had a nice time here on Wednesday night. And for a wednesday night, it was pretty poppin. Nice piano player and guy on the drums singing some tunes. I had calamari to start and it was seasoned well, nice crispiness. I wasn’t too hungry so i opted for the avacado salad and that was actually huge! I only finished half of it and it was delicious and only like $ 10. So, I’m not much help in terms of meat, which is what you are probably wondering about since this is a steakhouse. But for appetizers and avacado salad and drinks this is a good spot to come hang out and have a good time seemingly any day of the week.

Just stopped here for lunch. I’m not a huge fan of the chain in general. I believe it’s quite pricy, the steaks are underwhelming and I’m always expecting more flavor. The menu rarely changes, if ever. Service is just average. I only come to this location for the outdoor patio, which is lovely. Seems like it’d be good for an app and cocktail or an after work meeting. Other than that, I’d take a pass.

Gibsons was an overall underwhelming experience. Everyone in my party ordered a cut of steak and everyone agreed another nearby steakhouse starting with a «W» is better… I’ve come to expect outstanding service from steakhouses. We did not receive that at Gibsons. The night started off on an awkward note when our server made an off-color comment about not being paid enough to know specifics about their beer menu. Ok… He didn’t really seem familiar with the cuts of steak offered that evening and was even a bit argumentative with my husband. My husband ended up ordering a different cut of steak than he wanted based on our server’s descriptions. Service did however improve throughout our meal. A positive note — we were celebrating several birthdays and received a very large, complementary piece of layer cake. Yum!

Great dinner here last night. Our party of 6 had reservations for 6pm. We were seated promptly with an outdoor table.(If you’re dining here in the summer-definitely request to sit outside!) The outdoor space is beautiful! Ambiance complete with a fountain and an outdoor bar. Waitress recommended a really good bottle of red wine called«Justin». For apps we had the crabmeat avocado salad & the spicy lobster cocktail. Both very good. For entres, my husband and I split the bone-in filet. Gibbons made it a perfect medium rare. I like how Gibsons makes the outside really crispy without overlooking the inside. Good grilling! We shared a side of the mushrooms and those were a hit as well. Job well done Gibsons!

Came here last night for a work dinner and Gibsons was fantastic! I typically don’t go to steakhouses because I don’t eat steak, but compared to some of the other steakhouse experiences I’ve had in the past, I’d say Gibsons was by far the best. A few of us sat in the bar area while we waited for the rest of the party to show up, and the bar had a good ambiance. I was surprised by how packed the restaurant was on a Monday night. We had a reservation for 7:30 and were promptly seated. The table was very spacious, which was nice. I’m basing this review on the soup of the day(a tomato bisque), sea scallops with mushrooms and a red wine sauce, the creamed spinach, and the macadamia turtle pie. Everything I ate was heavenly. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the red wine sauce and mushrooms were flavorful. The sauce was more of a sweeter glaze that accompanied the scallops perfectly. The sides and desserts are big enough to share with 6 people(that’s how big our party was). We got several sides including the creamed spinach, double baked potato, mushrooms, and asparagus. We didn’t finish most of the sides, even with 6 people sharing 4. The dessert was exceptional. It was a macadamia turtle pie — vanilla ice cream in a graham cracker crust topped with chocolate sauce and encrusted with giant, flavorful, and fresh macadamia nuts. The macadamia nuts made the dessert. I couldn’t believe how fresh the macadamia nuts were and how many of them ended up in one dessert — I was blown away. As others have noted: Pros: — Humongous portions(entrees, sides, desserts) — Delicious food — Great service(wasn’t rushed) — Ambiance(feels like you’re dining with a bunch of businessmen and women, but that’s okay) — Good wine selection — Nice Bar Cons: — None, really. But if you don’t like valet parking or don’t like the thought of walking for a minute or two from the parking lot to get to the restaurant, then that’s kinda lame. Try Gibson’s if you’re in the area. It’s a great steakhouse with great service and fabulous food.

Came here for a business dinner and it was good I did not pay as this place is pricey for a good food. Ordered rib eye with salad and Brussels sprouts. Perfectly cooked but I have had better flavored steaks such as in Harrison and Lolinda. Service was good. They have quite a selection of desserts and they also serve this humongous chocolate cake which luckily we didn’t order as we were all full with our dinners. They also provide a great list of wine selection. This place gets pretty busy especially during the week.

*Steakhouse Hop* I used to live about 10 minutes from this Gibson’s and frequented the joint happily. I also have been to the ones on Rush St and the one in Rosemont. Frankly, though this is the newest location, I liked this one the best. One quark, you can only use valet here for parking, unless you want to walk quite a bit. The valet is free so why not. It always drove my friend Helen crazy because she had a crappy car filled with crap inside. She used to always park it at McDonald’s lot and walked to the restaurant. lol. Serve her right because that car was a hoarder paradise on wheels. In the steakhouse world, Gibson’s steak is one of the best. My ex and I used to come here a lot for special occasions because he liked it so much, much more than the other steakhouses. He said he liked the taste of meat here. I didn’t like it as much as he did because of stupid reason like they didn’t serve warm bread like Morton’s. At the end, I came here a lot not to have big steak dinner but to have lunch. Their lunch menu was very reasonable and it was tasty. I could get a really nice sliders plate with soup for like $ 10 or so. You could choose filet slider or salmon BLT… yumm! Their soups were also very yummy. I thought it was crazy that we could eat a very nice lunch here for about $ 30 for two. I always liked the white jacket uniform for the servers. They looked like doctors except they were serving steaks. The desserts here were also unbelievable. They were huge! I think I bought a chocolate cake once and barely ate 1⁄8 of it. I took the leftover to work and 5 people ate the rest of it! I always loved taking people here to lunch like mom on mother’s day as they would think we were dining fancy but the price was really nothing more than eating at Cracker Barrel. Hahahah seriously! Well, except if she decided to order a 4 pound lobster I suppose. Then, you’d be shit out of luck.

$ 10 bottle of wine vs. a $ 100 bottle of wine. Most people can’t tell the difference. Although if given a sample of the more expensive stuff everyone is going to say they enjoy it, but actually paying for it is a different thing. Educating the consumer… I think this is probably what they have the most trouble at. If you’re coming from Outback/Longhorn/Applebee’s I think it’s hard to see spending two or three times more for that same New York cut. as it’s a steep price hence the«overprice» reviews. Maybe if you’re use to dining at Bavette, Chicago Chop, other steakhouse of this kind then you might enjoy it. I like food that I like. Whether it’s cheap or expensive, «highbrow» or «lowbrow» doesn’t really factor into it. At the end of my meal… I thought it was okay. I came here on New Year’s day as a special occasion first meal, but didn’t feel like the typical customer they catered towards(business person having a power lunch/dinner)

Having been to other steak/fish houses I can say that the food at Gibson’s Bar and Grill is pretty stellar. Service is ok. The parking– is outrageously ridiculous for being next to a shopping mall in oak brook… There is no lot but the one that is shared with the McD and other buildings behind a mere 250 foot walk. The retention pond which is ugly kinda irks me a lil. We were greeted kindly by a warm hostess who promptly led us to our table. The restaurant is very nice inside with that ‘Chicago, downtown clubby’ atmosphere. Not much for décor because the place is so cramped. It’s unbelievably cramped. It was as if I had joined people for lunch as I was heading to the bathroom while waiting for servers to move etc… The food itself was as I said stellar. It wasn’t over the top awesome let me come back for more because of it being 1 very expensive, and 2 it was a very very standard American fare with a kind of limited menu. Cedar planked whitefish, filet mignon, scallops and ahi tuna were atop our table. The crab with avocado appetizer was outstanding. Gotta love that jumbo lump meat. The scallops dish was standard but set at a rate of 34 $ and for the 4 – 5 small bay scallops should’ve been given more. My filet was decked out with blue cheese atop. My brothers was plain. At 40 $ I would expect them to add a dry rub, a topping of something for added flavor. While not Unflavorful it was still just meat. (Allow me to interject in myself, the single lobster tail on the menu is an Australian rock lobster tail weighing probably 2 pounds. For 115 $…) then with turf it’s 165!!! I cannot comment on the whitefish alas the ahi tuna was very good. Large chunks of wholesome ahi served already cut and cubed… non traditional I suppose the accompaniment of ginger was spectacularly fresh. I was also told after the fact that the tuna in the center was ice cold making it seems perhaps not frozen but not prepared well and it was overpriced. For our shared sides we ordered the crab and bacon Mac, double baked potato, and creamed spinach. All were excellent and massive. The Mac had a bit too much bacon compared to crab. Towards the end of our meal some members of the party felt just a tad rushed. Perhaps not rushed but more just here, here, thank you. No personable experience alas it’s easter. The upstairs is remarkable as it is adorned with hundreds of photos(some autographed some not lol) from celebs who’ve came to Gibbys steaks. Do us/me a favor and go see that wall! Overall if I come back to gibsons it won’t be on my accord… The food was honestly outstanding for being what it was as mentioned a tad limited, But I would love to return if brought back by any occasion. If u can afford to dine at Gibson’s regularly by all means, but for special occasions it’d be a real treat.
