Great place to go for a weekend brunch. Good food.

What a great spot! Especially for a breakfast date! My fiancé got the croissant french toast… OMG it was delishhh. Their coffee and espresso drinks are on point and creative. The hash browns were sooo tasty and well seasoned. I have four instead of five because the wait staff didn’t really interact with us or check up on how everything came out. My Taylor ham was barely cooked which was probably just an oversight. But I brought it home and cooked it in a pan and all was good. Will definitely return to try the lunch menu!

Our intial experience with our drink orders foreshadowed how our visit was going to go. The first coffee ordered was cold and the second had an eyelash laying on the cup. The server quickly noticed and removed the cup almost immediately. At least he was observant. Ambience is definitely nice but service was somewhat subpar. After waiting at least 30 minutes, with no update on our food, we had to ask for the status. Typically we would be nonchalant about things because we understand places are busy on Sunday mornings, but we just couldn’t process how a table who was seated after us, we’re able to get their food first and finished their meal completely before our food arrived. I do have to give it up to Adam, who was able to interact with us towards the end and listened to our experience and apologized, quoting that typically service is better but busyness does not excuse performance. You are so right Adam!
He provided us with complimentary cookies, which was sweet. Ultimately, I wasn’t impressed by my first visit here but the food was decent and the staff friendly when attentive. May visit again when in the area, perhaps just on a less ‘busier’ day.

A friend introduced this café to me about a month ago. It has a warm cozy feeling the minute you walk in the front door. It’s family owned and run. The café offers free wifi. I’ve had several cappuccinos and flavored lattes all of them have been consistently outstanding. I normally get the eggs Benedict I’ve had steak and traditional– now today I’m told, if you like a little spice, you gotta try the buffalo eggs Benedict. I haven’t had that yet but it’s next on my list. Today I had their signature croissant French toast. It’s unbelievable– a must try. I’ve seen in heir oatmeal as well and it too looks great. The staff is very friendly, especially Tim.

3.5 to be exact. Round up for the nice ambiance here. Chestnut Street Café is a great place to go for breakfast/brunch and has some delicious food that you can have, while sitting outside in the back patio during a nice day. Just to note though, if you do decide to sit outside, the establishment does own a few cats that will stroll around. They are friendly cats, but if cats are not your thing, then definitely stay inside. I am allergic to cats, but the open space outside makes it bearable for me and the cats did not bother me too much unless my friend or I tried to play with them. On nice mornings I definitely like coming here just to eat outside and relax, and the plus of living near here is a great benefit. The best items I have had here were the French Toast, specifically their Signature Croissant and Banana Bread French Toast. I also was able to try their Eggs Benedict, which is okay and nothing special in my opinion. Their Signature Portobello Eggs Benedict was good, but I also tried the Steak and Eggs Benedict they served here before and that was average, as the steak tasted a little dry. With how local this place is for me, I would not mind coming back here again!

Extremely poor and SLOW customer service! Plates need replacing, food came out cold, and waitress with boy cut hair was too busy flirting with man at bar as opposed to taking care of customers. Took over 20 minutes just for 2 eggs, no water refills offered, and took over 10 minutes just to pay although they were not busy. Waitress should learn to put her phone away at work and do her job more efficiently. Waitress also obviously did not want to deal with my chip card or did not know how to use it because she claimed my card was declined, but I left there and went to other places late that day and the next and had no issues with it. I’m a weekly business traveler so having to use my personal card versus corporate card is a huge inconvenience. Planned to have breakfast there each day since it’s close to my office and my hotel does not offer breakfast, but I will not be returning… not even for lunch

Positives: nice cozy ambience, helpful friendly service, good coffee, food not too heavy Negatives: food nothing spectacular, pricey for what you get… ordered portobello mushroom Benedict, mushrooms could’ve been cooked in garlic or something to make them more flavorful. Blackened salmon Benedict wasn’t blackened at all. All in all a decent place for breakfast but for benedicts at least, don’t make a trek

The first time at Chestnut St. Café. Great coffee, that’s essential. It was very crowded at 1PM on a Sunday so we sat at the coffee bar to lessen the wait time. The staff was very attentive and the food was served quickly. We had a Veggie Omelet and Portibello mushroom eggs benedict. Both were well prepared with all fresh vegetables. Will definitely come back.

Cute café in Nutley — clean, nice décor, a little rustic with the booth and floor but overall spacious. Our server was such a sweeeet lady. I can’t recall her name but she really made our experience at Chestnut Street Café a nice one. Polite, on point with her check-ins, and good recommendations –5 stars for the service. As for the food — I had the Hungry Human Plate– great choice for someone who does not know what to get or wants everything! It comes with a little bit of everything: eggs, toast, homemade fries, bacon, sausage, and choice of pancakes or french toast. My parents decided to skip breakfast and had their panini. They were both very happy with the taste and portion of the sandwiches. They saw my breakfast was looking delicious so they order the Croissant French toast — comes with 3.-delicious! We left full and happy!

Tried the café for the first time today. Service was friendly and spot-on so no complaints in that department. The actual interior was very comfy and a lot bigger inside than I had originally thought. Now as far as the food goes, I personally thought the food was just okay. Ordered the grilled cheese panini with a side salad and some chai tea latte, along with a plate of pancakes and fresh fruit, and even an iced coffee. Food, as I mentioned before, was overwhelmingly… okay? Can’t say that the food really stood out. I did think it was a little weird how they served the iced coffee in these little plastic tumblers. Overall, I felt that the café was pretty adequate if you’re in the mood for some oh-so-okay food.

Thanks to a Unilocal search for Sunday brunch, Chestnut Street Café & Eatery was one of the search results. There is a fairly large parking lot out back. We walked in and were seated promptly.(Lots of seating) The waiter came right over to take our drink orders, and they were filled quickly. I went in with lunch on my mind but that quickly changed once I saw the Southwestern benedict special. Boo had the Steak and eggs benedict. Great find. Thanks Unilocal

Spacious and Cozy, but was not that impressed with the service and food was somewhat ok. The free cup of coffee is cool, but the press coffee was awesome. The price was right for the food, but was nothing to run home and tell momma about. No one was coming to check on the table after receiving our food and had to ask for syrup for the french toast, which took a while to get because I had to find someone to flag down. Asked for the check and waited patiently, but no one brought it back so I had to go and ask for it because I could not find anyone, which was because everyone was congregating in the front at the car. I ordered the french toast croissant which was actually tasty and had a good cinnamon taste to it. The scrambled eggs looked liked they were fried then scrambled because they forgot they were suppose to be scrambled. The bacon was thin and crispy… not the best I have had. I feel like this place is cool to have a good cup of coffee and something quick to eat. I would definitely come back for coffee, but to sit down and eat not sure if I would again.

Cool, cozy and laid back atmosphere! I like this café. The breakfast is great, parking around back/side, dining patio and a lovely aroma of coffee floating in the air! For my coffee lovers get the French Press. For my flavor town people’s get the Tex Mex omelet and get the sweet potato home fries for $ 0.50 extra! This morning mi lady and I enjoyed a lovely breakfast. We ordered the French Press coffee, eggs & bacon, croissant French toast and Tex Mex omelet with sweet potato home fries. With tip everything came out to $ 36. — Tex Mex Omelet — loved it! 3 eggs with chorizo, pepper jack, onions & pepper… What more could ya ask for? The chorizo is the star of this dish. Sweet potato was a nice add, but was light on the seasoning, still yummy and balanced well together! — Croissant French toast — she enjoyed it and of course I found a way to try some! Nice crisp and still some fluff to it. The eggs were eggs and of course bacon is bacon. All good! — French Press coffee — my java lovers will love it. Presented well and smelled awesome! I wish we would’ve found this place sooner. Want to try the patio out and I look forward to tasting other dishes on the menu! Driving by the place looks small, but there’s enough room inside for large groups! Enjoy people’s!

Chestnut is our go to place for Sunday brunch. They are located close enough to our home that if we are ambitious enough to walk we can otherwise they have their own lot behind the restaurant, although it does fill up quickly. There is closeby street parking as an alternative. Be warned there is usually always a wait for Sunday Brunch but it goes quickly. There is a wide screen TV in the coffee bar area and they don’t mind if sit at the bar while waiting. The breakfast menu is nicely varied. Signature omelets plus build your own are always frshh and delicious and come with toast and good home fries. Among my favorites are the Eggs Benedict of which they have several varieties(the hollandaise is yummy) and the Banana Bread French Toast is fantastic, as is their signature Croissant French Toast. We aren’t talking diet and healthy but what a nice indulgence. Hubby just loves their Greek Omelet and has never been disappointed. The usual waffles, pancakes and breakfast burritos round out the menu plus several Brunch specials are available, usually seasonally based. Today’s included Pickled Pig Panini(cute!) BBQ pulled pork, red onion slices, pickles and American cheese and Southwest Benedict, English muffin topped with chipolte sauce, spicy chorizo, poached eggs topped with hollandaise sauce, black beans and home fries. Sounds yummy. For those coffee lovers there is always a barista on call and although I don’t drink coffee hubby does and he loves their coconut latte. There is also a nice specialty coffee menu with all the specials listef on a chalk board in the bar area. I have had their Ghirardelli hot chocolate and it’s absolutely decadent. I have also been in for lunch and the sandwiches and salads were always good. Overrall this is a lovely neighborhood café than you can drop in on anytime(although they are only open for dinner Thursday, Friday and Saturday) and have a good comfortable meal. Amanda(one of the proprietors) and her staff are always friendly and accommodating and always make you feel welcome.

BOOMSHAKALAKAPOW!!! This place hit it right out the park with their food, service and a friendly staff who actually smile. Tim our waiter made us feel right at home in this place which has that right at home feeling in a very cozy way. We did start with a cup of their delicious pumpkin coffee. Tim was nice to suggest several things so we went with the Chicken Pesto Panini and a side order of crunchy fries. We also ordered the NY Strip steak sandwich with cheese n peppers and everything we had was absolutely on point.(still licking my fingers and I am on my third napkin from salivating) …Like I said, BOOMSHAKALAKAPOW!!! KUDOS to this incredible GEM of a place where its obvious the staff cares about the patrons. Tim thank You!!! We will be back with a bigger appetite just knowing what piece of heaven we have found…

A buddy of mine often meet to brainstorm ideas for our organization and we always struggle to find a place that has a great atmosphere, but that also has great food! This place has got the perfect combination and the staff(family owned) is so friendly. The son, his name slips my mind at the moment, it’s either Joe or Tim, he’s awesome! You can tell he loves what he does and he’s great at remembering his frequent visitors. He goes above and beyond to make sure you’re feeling right at home. Awesome food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, I really don’t think you can ask for anything else.

Picked this spot due to its proximity to our movie theater. As to be expected at any place with a brunch menu, it was absolutely packed on a Sunday midday. The biggest problems we had were related to speed of service — when we walked in no one told us how long it was going to be, when someone did find a table for us there was a weird five minute back and forth with another server and our waitress about how to seat us, and it took a while when we needed to get her attention(and a while longer to get the check as well). All this is reasonable when considering that the place was filled to capacity. Coffee was decent enough, and pretty reasonably priced for a café of this type. One person in our party got a smoothie which was reported as ‘lacking in flavor’. I’m not sure how one gets fruit in a smoothie to be ‘lacking in flavor’ so this was possibly in their head. Two people had the Unilocal lauded croissant french toast — everyone seemed to enjoy it fine, but no one believed it to be worthy of writing home over. I had a small corner of one piece — I think I was expecting something… crunchier maybe? It gets about as soft and custard like as more traditional french toast so I’m not sure where the advantage lies. I had one of the Sunday specials — ‘Western’ styled eggs Benedict with chorizo, black beans and chipotle sauce of some sort. I was not expecting a lot out of this but it was actually very nice — the chorizo in particular exceeded expectations. There was an overabundance of black beans in proportion to other ingredients. The eggs were served with home fries which were perfect — one other person at the table had these as a side and confirmed that they were very good as far as home fries go. He ordered a breakfast burrito that looked excellent — I’d considered that as an option but even the best of restaurants fail often at burrito assembly and I didn’t want a big mess. It looked to me like they griddle sealed the burrito ensure some better structural integrity, and the filling looked on point.

I’ve been here a half dozen times, usually for brunch. It is a good, local, go-to place for my friends and I. Their menu has a nice selection of omelettes, wraps, panini, salads, and more. The building itself is cute and quirky, and the atmosphere is great for long talks over lunch. Staff members are generally friendly and helpful. It is a bit slower than Han a diner, so don’t plan to be in and out in 45 minutes. I had no problem using the free coffee with Unilocal check-in offer. They have a small parking lot in the back; I’m always able to find a spot there. I also got dinner to take out once, and that went smoothly. Unfortunately, their hours are different each day, so I always call ahead to make sure they are open. Highly recommended!

So, this place is adorable. it has that going for it. Big inviting windows, plenty of seating, and even an outdoor patio. It’s important that if you go, look up at the ceiling and explain that to me. There are the strangest fabric covered circles hanging from it at all angles. Was going to take a pic, but really you’ve got to see it in real life to understand just how strange they are. Someone help. Went with my man on a saturday morning, and we both got the brunch specials. Him some fancy chicken sandwich, me some pumpkin pie pancakes. Each was $ 10.95. We waited on the long side for the food to come. My coffee cup was empty for a while without a refill. When the food finally came, my pancakes were on this huge plate and were 3 tiny little pancakes. I actually even asked if they were always this small. They are apparently. They were good and all, just really, really small. The chicken sandwich apparently had a lot going on. Ham, chicken, salty, flavors everywhere. He wasn’t really a fan. Oh, and the fries were cold. You could tell they would be good, but how you going to serve cold fries?! Once we finished, we waited FOREVER to get the check. We almost just walked up and found someone to pay but it finally came. A plus, parking wasn’t a problem. Plenty of free street parking and apparently they have a lot in the back. So overall, not impressed. Even though I really wanted to be.
