Dear Savannah Shaved Ice Co, Please relocate your business to Chicago. Preferably next door to my apartment. Or in my kitchen. The dreams I’ve had about your«Cheramoya» flavor are not appropriate for this public forum… but it will suffice to say I want to make inappropriate advanced to a styrofoam cup of shaved ice and I’m not the least embarrassed about that fact. When I return to Michigan to visit my family, I have no qualms about commandeering –anyone’s– car to drive 45 minutes to visit you. Love, Cher P. S. Cher + Cheramoya 4Eva!

The Savannah Ice Company is a small little shop at the top floor of Twelve Oaks Mall, near the anchor Lord and Taylor. I was walking to my alltime favorite store Sephora, when a screaming toddler got my attention. If it werent for this poorly behaving child, I probably would have never looked up and have seen the SIC. Whether or not I am thanking the child for this is a little of a toss-up. Last time I visited this particular section of the mall, a gourmet popcorn place inhabited the storefront that now houses the SIC. I actually quite liked the goodies they had on offer, but my husband and I agreed that it would probably be unlikely they would stay in business due to their location, which has minimal foot traffic(at best). Sadly, unless the owner is a marketing genius, I would predict the same for this place. Location, location, location :( Fast forward to January 2012 when I discovered the current business at this location. I ordered a small piña colada for my husband off of the virgin coctail menu. For myself I ordered amaretto with a shot of sour(a 25c upgrade). The flavors, though sugary, were pretty good. The piña colada kind managed to be creamy, and was heavier on the coconut rather than the pineapple. It couldve been coconut cream and that wouldve been a totally acceptable name for this treat. My amaretto was lacking amaretto flavor, which was quite an unacceptable bummer as when one orders something with the flavor of amaretto, one expects to detect amaretto flavor. The girls present at time of our visit were just that. Girls. Though the energetic highschoolers have their own unique ‘charm’, I wouldve prefered to have been served by a staff with a slightly higher level of professionalism. Upon entering we were not greeted, nor was there any form of helpfullness or smalltalk. The girls were joking back and forth with eachother, cackling away while(eventually) filling our order. The small size is actually rather large, and provided you like sweet, syrupy treats it is a good value for your money. Also noteworthy is the large menu wuth many flavors, as well as sugar free options available. For the youngens(and the more daring), flavors such as dill pickle and bubblegum are fun to try.

ohhh my goodness, i was super excited to walk into 12 Oaks Mall just the other day to find they have a Shaved Ice place 2nd floor by Lord and Taylor. i love shaved ice and they make them really goooood. so i guess this place just opened about a month ago, the place is small with a tiny sit down area with maybe 4 bar stools. but u don’t need to sit anyways so no biggie. they had so many flavors and combos i can’t even tell u them all and it didn’t even matter to me cuz it was cherry i wanted. so cherry i got but before they made mine they told me that the cherry flavor was colorless but tastes like cherry and so did i still want it. i didn’t care and it did still taste like cherry anyways. i almost wonder if they made this one for those messy kids, good call if so. so i got a small and the 2 others that were with me got a small. strange thing happened, mine was the colorless one and they had a strawberry and a grape that had color. well driving home and about 30mins away from the mall now mine is still hasn’t melted and they other 2 they at this point needed a straw… strange huh. and if u never had a shaved ice it between a snowcone and a slush, they shave a large block of ice and they u pick a flavor or flavors to but ontop and enjoy with a spoon. i’ll be back and so should you
