Mixed feelings about this place. I love Italian food and get really excited about going here because they stock a lot of products you’d have to go to the city to find otherwise. I’ve enjoyed all their food except the frozen eggplant parm, which was very salty. The problem is the people behind the counter. Serving such good food, making people happy, seems like it would bring joy to the people doing it. Seems like all these guys are just putting in their time, sick of meat cheese and rolls. There is some kind of emotional vacuum in this place. I go in excited and leave depressed. Makes me not want to go there.

One of the best sandwich shops in the country. Get your sandwich on Dutch crunch bread. Huge portions. This is where the cops eat.

Service sucks, kinda rude all of them but the foods great. They make the sandwiches grab the money an help the next customer without washing there hands.

Definitely the best deli sandwhiches. All the ingredients are high quality. I would try the dutch crunch if you haven’t adds a nice texture to the sandwich. I love any salami sandwhich, I ordered #10 which was salami with mortadello, mozarella, and red bell peppers which are marinated. Yum. Always good to get some fresh mozarella balls. And there’s a shopping area with other goodies. There is some seating inside. We bought some almond nougat treats from the shopping area and they’re just a little addictive. It’s 2 days later and we already ate the whole box!

Food is great, it truly really is, but the service is ridiculously awful. Every Friday I pickup up the tab for my company. We order from a bunch of local spots and while everyone in my office loves eating at Tags(including myself) I hate working with them. I called in an order and after placing it the the guy on the other line gave me a little attitude and told me to order online for the future. As a business owner I totally understand making things more efficient and chalked up the person on the other line being super busy. The next time I placed an order with them it was online. When I went in to pickup the order 45 minutes later nothing was made. They said they never got the order and I had to reorder everything. I called my office and had to get everyone’s order again. As I was just finishing jotting everything down Tags found the order and it was sitting on their printer. I then had to wait another 20+ minutes for my 10 sandwiches to be made. No one said a thing. There was no sorry, in fact the guy who owns the place made some 16 year old go tell me there was an error. I was disappointed that they didn’t take an initiative to let me know they messed up and apologize for the error. Unfortunately they will continue to get my business because my employees enjoy the food, but I very much so dislike supporting their standoffish ways. If you like good eats this place is for you but with service like that I just hate supporting it. Go to Perry’s if you want to get a culture of caring and promptness.

Pretty quaint shop, little pricey, but good selection.

Kills me to have to downgrade my rating for what was one of my favorite businesses in town… The owner used to seem like a happy guy who worked a family business with his son. Don’t see much of the son anymore and have witnessed the owner refer to an unhappy customer(who was ahead of me in line) as a «whiny bitch». This is a business that seems to have gotten too tired to care. As other reviewers have pointed out, there is a pall of unhappiness that hangs over the entire staff. I recently emailed the deli to let them know that the $ 20+ of their frozen home made ravioli that I purchased disintegrated completely due to badly perforated pasta… Wasn’t looking for a refund or anything, but I got zero response. If the Tagliaferris have burned out or checked out or both, they should consider selling the business before there’s nothing left of it– read your recent reviews(if you care)… It’s not just me…

Great meatball sandwich and nice friendly service but do not get the take out meat lasagna. Way way too much ricotta cheese and a lot of meat parts including casings were left in making it very unappetizing. Pasta at deli is overcooked. Stick with the sandwiches.

Handmade meatballs large size are taken from their hot food area to make their meatball sandwiches is something of a lost era where sammies are raved on substance, not advertised like another sandwich. Now I never been to Italy but if this is how meatballs are done, I am moving over there like pronto. Okay, why would I move there if I can just come and get it here. Just wish they stay open later in the evening when I get off work so I can pick one up which is my only gripe are the hours. Just so I can avoid the junk balls they served up at Subway and because they put it in their so called Italian bread don’t make it so. I don’t really get anything at Subway anymore but just saying…

I’m not sure if there’s new management or a new owner, but rotting food in the deli case, employees not wearing gloves when handling food, flies in the cookie case, and horrible sandwiches today. I had to drop some stars after my last two visits. We used to really enjoy everything here. The past two visits have me wondering if the health department has been in lately.

Best sandwiches in Novato. Consistently delicious and top quality ingredients. Make sure you try the Cannoli too. Not five stars because its also consistently quite slow. If your needing a quick lunch — this may not be the place for you. Otherwise, take your time and enjoy sandwich perfection.

Consistent, amazing sando’s. Love this place. Gave 4⁄5 stars because the customer service is hit or miss. And my second time visiting, a gentleman behind the counter said I’m ruining my sandwich because I’m adding one ingredient to it. In my opinion, I’m the one eating it, and not him — and I thought the customer was always right? Odd.

Oh my goodness. I am so sad to write this. Although I am not a regular but I’ve been to this place for many years once every other month to get my tri-tip sandwich fixing; but yesterday was the worst day !!! It was around 4 ish. The young man behind the counter never even look up — nor smile :((oh well. I guess they are not paid enough to smile. I told him everything except mustard in my tri tip sandwich; mine husband ordered special #1; after he made our sandwich, he tossed them on the counter and asked(without looking up) «do u want a bag?». When we got home and opened our sandwiches and oh my goodness, those were the saddest sandwiches we ever seen ! No lettuce, tomatoes. Nothing !! Just a bunch of meat throw together on the bread! Really you guys? For two plain sandwiches that costed almost 20 bucks??? I may have to take my business elsewhere…

Great folks and the best Italian deli in Marin hands down. Go with the number 6 and add Salami, welcome to sandwich nirvana.

Been going to «Tag’s» for over 10 years. They consistently produce great food, have great drinks, snacks, and staples such as coffee, canned fish, beans, sauces, pastas, and olive oil. Parking and access is easy! No excuse not to go here! Try their«Custom Sandwiches» if you have a hard time deciding.

I came here for the first time yesterday and got two sandwiches. One sandwich was for me and the other was going to be for a nice mid-afternoon snack surprise for someone special. Take your number, stand in line and watch the magic happen. Yes, this is an Italian deli, but these are no ordinary sandwiches. After watching probably about a half dozen get assembled with wonderful-looking ingredients and with definite care, it was a tough decision to make a sandwich choice. Let’s just say I chose so well that I devoured my sandwich and had to see if the second measured up to the first. It did and I ate the whole second sandwich. I am a gluttonous fool. There are frozen meals in small size(for two or one me) and a larger for a family perhaps. I saw lasagna both meat and veggie, ravioli both cheese and meat, baked ziti(which always makes me think of Sopranos) and more. All the dried pastas, jarred beans and typical Italian fairs were tough to resist. I’m happy I did because I will be saving my pennies for more sandwiches. I know what I’m having for lunch tomorrow!

I second Mike S. — I am troubled by the low reviews. I’m always clueless on how to order whenever I come upon places I haven’t been to before but(this is aside from the fact that I was with someone who’s been here before) they have a board posted above the counters to familiarize yourself on the offerings they have. You can figure it out! You have to take a number too. That’s how busy they can get. I wasn’t feeling to explore so I went with one of their custom sandwiches — Prosciutto Cotto — the roasted red peppers got me. It was good. The serving(as with any other sandwiches) is a little too much for someone like me. So share if you must! There are sitting and tables but I gather this is not a place where people come and stay. Don’t bet on a chair. Better to take it to go. They also have a mini-mart for italian groceries you might want. Killler — everything is a bit pricey. But according to that someone I know — it’s worth it.

I am troubled by the low reviews. Been here a handful of times and always impressed. Feel like it’s some Unilocal troller who had a bad day. Anyway, really worth a shot trying this place out, food is great, don’t expect a conversation with the bro making your sandwich, if you do need this, go ask your best friend to fix you a turkey club and keep my line shorter! I’m a regular

I come here a lot and not once I have ever been acknowledged right away or even get a smile from anybody. At first, I didn’t care cause the food is good. But lately, I have been getting ignored when I pick ip my food even when I call ahead of time to order. I thought it was just me but I guess my coworkers have the same experience. I went for lunch since I was craving a sandwich and I was disappointed. I wanted soft italian bread but they didnt have any and I was told that they have one similar to it so I went with it. I order a prosciutto sandwich with no onions and no mustard but instead they put onion and didnt put oil and vinegar. Im not sure if its just going to keep getting worse but I dont think this is the sandwich place for me anymore.

I like the sandwiches mainly because there isn’t anything else around. It is overpriced and the sandwiches are just ok. It would be forgiveable but the owners seem racist. At first I thought it was just me, so time after time, I kept coming back thinking it was just bad service… but the other day, there was no one in there except me. I didn’t get a smile from any of the owners or a hello. The guy behind the counter was alright but I was invisible to everyone else in there. I always feel sad when I go there. Anyway, I left again trying to believe it was just me, but today I knew I was for sure right. I had been in there for a couple of minutes, again no hello, no eye contact, but then suddenly the caucasian woman beside me got a «hello, how are you» and a smile! She was seriously right next to me and I got nothing!!! That sealed it for me. I know for sure now that they are racist. Funny thing is, is that I speak french and italian! lol Sadly, I’ll be going back because hey… brown people gotta eat too… I just wish they would knock it off and appreciate their customers. Other than that, I love their meatball subs!
