Carlos at the bar is a great guy. Makes a pretty mean margarita. His cochinita pibil tacos were amazingly good. It had fatty parts and skin! Didn’t expect that. Just came in for one drink(large margarita) at happy hour with a friend, wasn’t planning to eat but Carlos recommended to try. I thought this place was more Americanized but wow that fatty pulled pork definitely not found at a Chevys style Mexican restaurant. Will be back with the whole family to see Carlos.

Came for a late dinner plus a drink or two. Casual atmosphere, a nice local spot. Had a few drinks and a full course meal. Meal was well prepared and filling. Price was good too. No complaints. Nice wait staff as well.

Walking in the place at 12:15 in the afternoon it was empty with one couple seated at a table. There where no greeters and I had to ask someone if they where open. I seated my shelf and relaxed some trying to figure out if I should run. The guy I asked if they where open turned out to be my waiter. He delivered warm chips and a mild red and green salsa. I ordered the Crania Asada. As I waited and enjoyed the chips the place filled up more with the lunch crowd. It never got totally full but a good crowd. Noise level was low so it was a pleasure to be inside. My lunch was delivered in a timely manner and hot. The waiter was very attentive and kept my ice tea full. The meal was very good. It is not the best Carna Asada I’ve had but it was not the worst, it was good. Lots of TV’s with sports running if your into that. I felt it a very friendly place and I might have caught them off guard when I came in. Yes I would eat hear again if ever in the area. Watching the customers that where hear a lot seamed to be regulars as they where greeted and talked with a lot. Seen some go in the back to say hi to the cooks. Not sure if the corn chips where home made but they had a great crunch. Salsa was good but I like more heat.

Have I really not reviewed this place before? I’ve only been eating here for about 15 years(and I’m not full yet! ha ha…) My go-to is the steak salad, and I kid you not, it’s been consistently good every time I order it. And Carlos remembers me from the old days ;) What I love about this salad: Warm, tender, seasoned skirt steak strips adorn a fresh salad of mixed lettuces(red leaf, etc.), jicama and cucumber. Comes with a zingy balsamic vinaigrette. A good value for around $ 10. Very satisfying. Comes with chips and 2 salsas(roasted red pepper, and fresh salsa verde — my favorite anywhere, any day). p. s. Watch out for the margs the size of your head. They’ll sneak up on you.

My boyfriend and I LOVE coming here for their happy hour! Their margaritas are awesome and not to mention their chips and salsa. My boyfriend is a HUGE fan of their flautas and for dessert, the flan! I love their wings and the guac is delicious. Prices are very reasonable and they have an outside seating area. Big tvs inside as well!

We used to eat at Maya Pelenque when our kids were young and we always had a good time and good food. We thought we would give it a try and we were very disappointed with our experience! When we walked in there were three tables just finishing up their meals… We were immediately given chips and salsa however we waited about 15 mins for our waitress to come over and greet us… she took our drink order and basically disappeared for another 10 minutes…so we walked out! they asked us why we were leaving. but I don;t think they really cared… by the way, when we left we were the only customers in the restaurant! They have no concept of customer service and really need a reality show rescue

The 2 stars are for the service and the red salsa they give you when you sit down with the chips! The food is mediocre and also made my stomach upset. They don’t even know how to roll a burrito!

Friends from S. F. took me out for my birthday. It started out well – but unfortunately did not continue that way! I ordered a margarita & it came on the rocks – my fault, I didn’t specify, but the flavor was good! For dinner I ordered an appetizer with shrimp & pineapple in a tomato-based sauce. When it arrived, the dish looked yummy but LARGE – this is an appetizer? They had even included a small salad on the plate. After my first bite I realized WHY the salad – the sauce was SO spicy it was basically inedible! I could not taste the shrimp at all & could barely taste the pineapple! There was no taste, just HOT!!! I suspect the salad was to try to temper the heat-it didn’t work. On the other hand, the other two people in our party seemed to have much better luck with their orders – soft tacos & a burrito. This was NOT our first visit, but it may be our last!!! x

It’s very much a destination for me. I live close by so it’s easy but I don’t go anywhere I don’t enjoy. Ever. So go to Maya for the food, drink, ambiance and excellent service. Everyone working there is very friendly and make you feel at home. All good things from Maya. Cheers!

Ok, those of you are going to say, what! It’s four to me because it’s easy on, easy off, the foods authentic, the drinks potent, the prices reasonable, it has outside seating, lots. The three stars are probably due the regular bar crowd, loud sports fans and somewhat rambunctiousness of the crowd, but outside is perfect, lots of dining spaces, plenty chips, salsas, bartenders remember your drinks and pour is good. I say, give it a try, practice your Spanish and buen appetito! It’s been here years, had its highs and its lows but it’s worthy for the food drinks and plenty of TV’s if you’re looking for sports!

It had been a very long time since I was last here because the last time I came to this restaurant it was filthy. In fact, when last here I thought it was so dirty I didn’t expect it to be open much longer. So, recently, because the restaurant we planned to go to was not open, my friend and I went in for lunch. It is still not the most polished Mexican restaurant in the area, and until it cleans up a bit I am more likely to go to one of the other Mexican restaurants nearby. We were at the restaurant on a weekday at lunch time. The restaurant was close to empty, so the service was appropriately attentive. The chips and salsa were really good ~ a big plus for this place. I had the chicken tortilla soup and really enjoyed it. I would go back and try it again! My friend had a chili relleno and an enchilada and also enjoyed her lunch. Hope they will step things up a bit so that this is more than just a moderately acceptable place to go.

The place is not all that clean; but the bathroom is flat disgusting! If you ask if you can get something that is not listed on the menu, buyer beware! The a la carte section lists chicken, beef and pork tacos for $ 3 each. There is a fish taco dinner; so we asked if we could get fish tacos a la carte. Sure, no problem; but when the bill came; they were %100 higher than the other tacos! $ 6 each! Fast friendly service.

We ordered chili rellenos and mom had a chicken enchilada also. The chili rellenos were flat and nothing special, the beans and rice lackluster, and she did not like the steamed chicken in the enchilada. But, it has a nice garden area to sit in with roses and plenty of space. Also the beer list is standard.

I have driven by this restaurant time and again, always a bit curious but never truly giving it full attention. When it was my choice to find a restaurant for date night, I decided to just go for it and check this place out. The exterior by far does not reflect the warmth and beauty of its interior. With large Aztec themed murals and plenty of table seating, the spacious seating area and bar offered an inviting atmosphere. My husband and I were greeted quite quickly and soon had two mango margaritas betweem our hand. The guacamole appetizer rocked and my main dish of carne asada was enough for the next day’s lunch. My husband had the Diablo shrimp. At the end, we shared the dessert nachos – they were delish! Truly, I wish we had discovered this place earlier. To be sure, we will return!

What a gem of a place. Driven by here for years and it didn’t look like a nice place for dinner. We ended up trying it last night as we were in the mood for Mexican food and it was close by. So glad we did as the food was very good. It gets 3 stars for being family friendly and nice inside. A fourth star for very friendly service. The fifth star will take some explaining. My wife is a celiac and therefore cannot have any wheat/gluten. Maya P is the ONLY Mexican restaurant we have been to that does not use soy sauce(which has gluten) in its marinade. In my opinion this deserves an extra star. The food was all good, I had the mole which was good. We tried the guacamole and that was also good. My wife had the combo plate and everything was good. We will definitely come back here.

Usually I don’t bother writing reviews about okay restaurants, but Maya Palenque really needs to find an identity and a cook. My wife and I stopped by to try the local Mex restaurant and what a disappointment. The place looks great from the outside, but inside it looks like a cavernous Mexican sports bar without any personality or warmth. TV’s are placed around the bar and the restaurant. When we went it was a big college football weekend, but we couldn’t get the waiter to change it from basketball to football. They just ignored our requests. Moving on we ordered margaritas. They were over priced and the skinny margarita was undrinkable. When I asked the waiter was this normal, he just shrugged. The chips and salsa were decent. We ordered our food and I ordered fajitas. It looked good, but was tasteless. The chicken and steak combo had no taste. It was as if they forgot to marinate the meats before cooking. The place has no personality, the food is poor, and the service deplorable. Don’t be fooled by the exterior. These guys need to get on a reality show and have someone save this restaurant!
