Eh, for service and smoothie. Can’t review the coffee since I did not have it. Went there for the first time on a Sat. 10 minutes prior to closing(5:00pm). Looks like they just wanted get out of there. Had a smoothie. Was not at all with fresh fruit. Tasted artificial. I’ll pass the next time I’m in town. Good location. Buy, why close that early.

Pros: Great outdoor garden to enjoy food and drinks. Patio is away from the street and traffic, nice soft music in the background. Plenty of seating! Lots of choices to choose from drink wise. Smoothies, home made chocolate drinks, iced, hot etc. the baked goods in the glass case looked really good but I ordered off the menu. Now the cons: Sunday’s lunch is unavailable. So I ordered a breakfast sandwich, My sandwich was pre-made and popped in the microwave a few minutes before serving. That means no substitutes and my food was«ready» before I had a chance to change my mind once I realized it wasn’t made to order. It looked very unappealing, I took a picture, am I wrong? I hoped for the best and took a bite. Dry & bland. Not good. Bummer.

Yesterday’s iced coffee was the best I’ve ever had. Unfortunately for me, I rarely get to Novato, can’t they open in Southern Marin? Pretty please?

This business is open, why did Unilocal«close» it? I’m sitting at the coffee shop as I type this!!! Great drink and meal options, cute little corner café in downtown Novato.

This review is for their coffee. The beans they use for their espresso drinks are incredibly bold but not over roasted like the bigger chain coffee joints. The scuffins are pretty good too. I work right up the block and will shun the coffee served at the natural and organic grocery store for Dr. Insomniac’s. Go there. Don’t walk. Run. Especially if you appreciate higher quality coffee.

They got my order wrong but I ended up LOVING what they made. Next time I’ll ask for the barista’s own favorite and I’m sure it will be good. :-)

Really nice place! The coffee was good and they have signs that say they make everything inhouse and they stand behind it – so if you don’t like it, tell them. We planned to grab a cup and leave, but ended up staying for about 30 min because it was so comfortable.

Amazing coffee so so sooo good. Service — terrible. The woman who rung me up said«I’ve never tried the coffee» and one woman who is always working always looks annoyed when I ask for almond milk. But like I said, amazing coffee

They have a nice selection of food, coffee, smoothies and pastries. I had the pesto chicken and a chai latte. Pesto sandwich was good but I would have loved it more if it had white meat instead of dark, the chai was good but it was on the warm cold side. Need to be specific to staff to have your items hot and not kinda warm. It seemed like everyone was here for coffee and pastries instead of the rest. Overall I would come here only for the pastries :)

The character of this place is charming! I like how they have a large outside seating area as well as inside seating. It’s spacious and comfortable. I often like to sit at the front in this little cave like area where the walls are open and a table sits underneath some shelves that have displays of their drinks. Their breakfast sandwiches are tasty, and reasonably priced as well as their pastries. The drinks are a bit of a hit and miss at times as well as their service. They’re never truly friendly, but never truly mean. I sometimes catch a glare or strange gaze from the employees. What makes this place special is the setting and charm of the setting.

Still one of the only places I will get a latte. Good coffee, local business, free wifi, outdoor seating. It’s a no-brainer. Great place to use as a study café. A million times better than the inexplicably popular chain found everywhere.

They actually have good coffee here. I mean, really good coffee I’m willing to overlook the snotty lady behind the counter. And try their scuffins too. Enough sitting for work, play or people watching. Free wifi is greatly appreciated too :)

Yeah they have some good hand-crafted beverages and really nice breakfast burritos. Their chocolate croissants are to die for as well! This is the only reason I’m giving a 3-star rating. I’ve heard some really bad things about management here though. Since it’s family owned, I’m sure this business gets away with treating their staff horribly, not just with attitude but with scheduling too. As this doesn’t effect me much as a simple customer because I would never choose to work there, I would just like to talk about the workers. I’m assuming that most of the reviews that mention how all the workers are polite and patient are probably not locals, or they have not gone there throughout the years besides a few, simple occasions. They also might just get the vibe that the workers are«polite» just because they barely say anything most of the time. Some of the ladies that work here, which I know are part of the family business, are very bi-polar. Sometimes, they are super sweet and have an inviting smile. Other times they have this indirect, glaring look behind their eyes that send the message of «Get out!». Sure, inside might look comfortable and cozy, but it’s definitely not the type of café where the workers ask«Good morning, How are you, today?» or «How can I help you today?» They kind of just wait and stare until you tell them what you want. Also, trying to park there is a nightmare… NEVER, any parking which is also a reason I rarely go there now. Overall, if I do go there, I try to make it quick.

My husband is the caffeine addict in the family so I don’t always drink the coffee when we stop at coffee shops. I’m usually on the hunt for a vegan pastry! This visit I did order an almond milk latte too. As always, Steve ordered his at 130 degrees which is usually 30 degrees or more lower than coffee shops traditionally steam the milk. When we received our order, we noticed that his cup said to make it extra hot! What! She explained that she made a mistake when she placed the order for us. Since they usually steam to 160 degrees, I have no idea how hot«extra hot» is! She kept giving Steve ice to cool it off but not only does that water down the flavor but a scorched latte is a scorched latte no matter how quickly you cool it off! I suggested that he ask them to remake it. They did do that for no additional charge. They have several tables outside so we headed out. Once we settled down, I realized that my latte was so hot that I couldn’t drink it. In fact, I burned my mouth. I had to sit there for about 15 minutes before I could even sip it. This brought back a memory from the last time we visited. Steve had complained that his latte was scorching hot that time too! We decided that was our last visit. We just wanted a chance to relax before we headed back to Napa and instead it just felt like we crumpled up a ten dollar bill and threw it in the trash. As a vegan always on the lookout for treats, they get 3 stars instead of 2 for offering vegan scones. My goal is to support local businesses whenever possible but not if I can’t enjoy the experience!

Coffee is good but the service completely sucks! It’s a shame that the owners themselves have such horrible customer service! Will not go into detail into what occurred but never again will I be coming here !

Nice coffee shop with lots of chairs inside and outside to hang out with a friend or get work done! Also good for people watching if you sit at the tables outside. Really friendly service and large menu of drinks, salads, sandwiches, etc. I ordered a large mango smoothie($ 5). It was a huge serving size and really refreshing. My boyfriend got the BBQ chicken sandwich(~$ 8) which was pretty flavorful although not that large of a portion.

LOVELOVELOVE This place! This quaint coffee house is one of the staples that gives Novato it’s small town feel. You’ll find many local business people, stay-at-home moms, etc. coming or going or hanging out. Great people, yummy variety of pastries, delightful coffees, and overall a warm atmosphere. They also have other food options: sandwiches, smoothies, oatmeal, etc but I have yet to try it. The front is fairly small, but there are 2 other rooms with tables and the outside patio tables.
