This place is the real deal. If you are looking for knowledgeable staff, real energy, and authentic items, this is where you should go. After visiting all of the local shops, this is the only one I recommend.

Authentic, educational, and so cool! I am not a believer in voodoo but find it so fascinating. The staff is very informative and friendly, they helped my friend in choosing certain products since she believes in that kind of stuff. You cannot take pictures inside, which I respect. So many interesting alters, spell packages, potions, and herbs. Great experience while I was visiting NOLA!

Located a little off the beaten path. A cool, fun place to pop in and browse. Did appreciate how items were explained to those of us not familiar with voodoo. Not the shop I was looking for but fun nonetheless, had what I was looking for.

I’ll have to dissent here and argue that this was not really the authentic Voodoo shop experience I was hoping for in New Orleans. I actually went out of the way and sought this place out based off of Unilocal reviews, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. More of a tourist spot than expected, there were two very nice men working behind the counter. They were very knowledgable about the history and the items in the shop, but I was looking for much more of a whimsical, mysterious deep rich history lesson rather than«light this candle and your enemy will get what he or she deserves.» The items were a series of candles voodoo dolls, etc; however, to me the goods seemed to only scratch the surface. I’ll say it didn’t help that there was pop music playing in the store while I was there…

Oh New Orleans you always catch my attention with your voodoo ways. This place has a pulse about it and you can feel it the moment you step in and it may be overwhelming while you are browsing. This is an active voodoo practicing site so please be respectful to the alters and offerings. They have all sorts of gris gris bags, charms, candles and stuff for sale so if you are looking for better luck, to attract the right love or to stop a hexing, this place is where you need to go. I have been here twice in the last two times that I visited New Orleans and this place is definitely authentic. I have had a reading here and you should make a reservation because we were all hoping to have readings here but, since we were just walk ins the first time they only had time for one of us. If you are coming for a tarot reading you should be prepared with questions to ask; unfortunately I was not but, I still feel like I took a lot from what the guy said who was giving me my reading. He was pretty accurate and I appreciated that. The pricing on all of their stuff for sale as well as the reading price was comparable to other places but, I think this place is a lot more legit than most places.

Located in a quiet street in the French Quarters, it’s easy to get to if you get off the streetcar station, Dumaine. Went in there and saw a lot of cool and interesting things… lots of voodoo dolls to choose for various reasons and function. The staff was nice and allowed you to walk and take pictures. It’s not like other establishments where people follow you around. The place has a steady line of people come in. I would recommend at least 30 mins and see all the cool items they do sell.

Just a couple of medium sized rooms make up this shop. I wasn’t really in the mood for a reading today, I was just on the prowl for interesting places in the Quarter to go to or possibly take future visitors. Incense was a bit on the strong side. Lots of things to look at inside. Interesting place to visit, but not much to write home about. Middle of the day on a Monday was slow inside.

Tiny little shop on a quiet street, got some lovely voodoo dolls for souvenirs here. Clerk was sweet and service was swift.

Weird place. Wouldn’t call it authentic. Checked it out just to say I did. I would be willing to believe in voodoo if it wasn’t such a tourist trap that is coated in surface level phony and cheap crap. Save your time and skip this place. There are scarier and more authentic places elsewhere.

Great service, cleaner than most places, original spell candles and custom herbal remedies for teas and gris gris bags. Nice selection of incenses too. After passing up other reading opps and reading the reviews on Zaar, I returned for a reading with him(I wanted a reading from Christian, who was very helpful but she wasn’t working on Saturday). Before I walked into the shop, I quietly asked the universe for an answer to a specific question before walking into the shop. Zaar’s reading was spot on. Very much worth every penny! Authentica indeed!

Smells like home. I brought a few candles. Got some advice. Learned a little about how this stuff works. I went here twice within 3 days. I think everyone should pass through here at least one. voodoo is nothing to be afraid of :)

I wanted to NOLA voodoo experience and this just happened to be the first place I walked into after doing a quick search. It’s kinda cool, with lots of history on voodoo and a large assortment of items, idols, and relics related to voodoo culture, but it felt like a tourist-y spot and not as spooky/creepy as I had hoped. I have a hard time taking any spooky place seriously when they use the Chiller MS Word font on their signage. I’m not saying this is a waste of time, though. The staff seemed very friendly, especially after I dropped a few bucks into their donation can up front. There are three rooms absolutely jam packed with bric-à-brac and knickknacks, including a shrine area where people leave offerings and wishes. Gris Gris bags seem to be a big seller here, and they had them in spades. I was looking for items that had a certain vintage to them, of which I didn’t find much. Perhaps my idea of what constitutes a voodoo shop is different from what they really are; blame it on too many horror movies. I half expected a gnarled swamp witch to be working the front desk.

Amazing alters and certified practitioners for your readings as well as guidance toward your spiritual well being. I am mending a marriage and starting a new chapter so I found the most wonderful candles and Gris Gris bags to help me along.

I am afraid to write a truthful review out of fear of voodoo retaliation. Not what I envisioned an authentic Voodoo experience to be. Overhearing the proprietor’s story of how voodoo renewed his faith where his church had failed sounded like a rehearsed and tired tale to listen too… My own inquiries were greeted with borderline contempt and skirted condescension. Erzulie’s just around the corner proved to be a much better experience.

Great atmosphere. This little shop/cultural center/museum was awesome. The guy at the front answered all my annoying questions. He was very knowledgeable. He said he was a Voodoo priest and all the gris gris there were authentic because voodoo priests made them. He didn’t try to sell anything to me, and seemed to answer things honestly to his knowledge/beliefs. They have a lot of interesting displays from dolls to shrines and artwork. If you are into history and culture, this is a great place to visit.

The Mr was looking for a voodoo doll to bring back for a buddy at work & the Unilocal App came up w/Voodoo Authentica We wouldn’t have entered had it not been for Unilocal — the outside signage states it’s a «cultural center» so we thought it was a museum but rest assured it’s a shop & they have absolutely everything you’d ever be looking for, when it comes to voodoo All kinds of dolls to ward off evil, protect health, promote sexual well-being — there are big dolls, small dolls, pencil dolls, doll-magnets, feathered dolls, stuffed dolls & this doesn’t even begin to cover all the candles & scents & herbs & books & whatnot you’ll find all over the shop The girl working there was super-nice & allowed us to browse but was totally available & willing to answer whatever questions we had. For providing education & every single juju supply one could think of, this place has got to be as good as it gets!

I really liked my experience at Voodoo Authentica. While I don’t practice voodoo myself, I certainly can appreciate the culture and history behind it and those who do practice it. The folks working here are friendly and are happy to answer questions without hovering over you as you check out the shop. The prices are a bit high, which is to be expected in an authentic and yet also really tourist-friendly area. The smell of burning incense should also be mentioned — it’s pretty strong, so be careful if you’re sensitive to that sort of thing! My friends and I actually visited the shop the day before we had a cemetery tour scheduled, and we were pleased to learn from our(possibly biased?) tour guide that Voodoo Authentica is no misnomer — it’s the real deal and the best(if not the only) place to go for real voodoo items. To quote our tour guide, «All voodoo shops in the city are there for one reason and one reason only — to separate you from your money. Voodoo Authentica is different, and if you want a real voodoo experience, look no place else.»
