Wonderful atmosphere, incredible food, great service. Among the best(if not the best) meals I’ve had in New Orleans, hands down.

This is a small restaurant with great food along with good prices. The staff is excellent. Since there is only 14 tables available, there is a small kitchen staff. The wait for one’s order can be compared to that at a Parisian restaurant, a bit slow. However, it is well worth the wait. I will be back several more times.

Awesome place to eat tucked away on the quiet part of Magazine St. Friendly staff, great fresh food — If you are a prude don’t sit in the back corner near the windows as there is a bit of racy art(tasteful though!)

I have experienced the future of our cuisine and it’s the Panned Egg. More on that in a minute… This is a surprisingly excellent bistro! This place is easy to miss — sort of tucked away on the lower end of Magazine — but well worth seeking out. It’s rather small but not all cramped. It has a very intimate ambiance. A little on the dark side but not to the point that you can’t read the menu. The crowd tends to skew toward the older side. This is romantic but casual dining for adults. Also, though it was a bit crowded I was able to get a table at 8:00 on a Saturday night without a reservation or significant wait. But needless to say, the real draw here is the excellent food. The menu is mostly small plates in the $ 10 — $ 20 range. We started with the Gumbo of the day — Chicken and andouille. Excellent. One of the better gumbos that I have tried recently — dark roux based, perfect consistency, well spiced. The barbecued shrimp and crab claws was another winning dish. While maybe not the best interpretation of this classic creole dish(that honor still belongs to Emeril) I have ever tried, the sauce was spicy and flavorful and the addition of the crab claws along with the shrimp made for an interesting twist. All of the above is well and good, but it leads to the star attraction of the night — a little salad dish named«Greens, Eggs, and Ham». A simple salad of field greens topped with lardons, a mild vinaigrette and — yes you have guessed it — the fore-mention Panned Egg. Panning, as you may know, involves sauteing lightly breaded items(usually meats). If done correctly the outcome will be dish that is lightly crispy on the outside and wonderfully moist on the inside. It works well with sweetbreads, veals, chicken, and other more delicate items. But an egg? An egg that comes out with the perfect crunch on the outside and the consistency of a perfectly poached one on the inside? I mean, how did Chef Vizard do this? It’s amazing! And the level at which the richness of the egg blends with the slight bitterness of the greens all accented by the acidity of the vinaigrette and the smokey sweetness of the lardons is, well, just amazing. Yes, Sam I am, I do like Greens, Eggs and Ham. Desserts weren’t bad either. I found dining companion’s scoop of Peanut Butter Ice Cream(all ice creams are made on site) to be a bit too peanut buttery for my taste but the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding was excellent. Also, the coffee deserves a mention. It’s served french press style and it was quite good. The wine list is interesting — good selection of bottles that range from $ 40 to well over $ 100. And there is an excellent by the glass selection. Glass prices are in the normal $ 10 — $ 15 range. Bottom line: While not quite worthy of that elusive fifth star, this is an outstanding restaurant.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had in NOLA!!! Went with some friends and family this past weekend and every single thing we ordered was outstanding! I HIGHLY recommend the soft shell crab special if it’s available when you visit, it was just out of this world good, maybe the best dish I’ve ordered in New Orleans. Even the coffee was great, served in a French press! We were the last people in the restaurant and the waitstaff was pleasant to us even though we lingered around, and we got to talk to the chef and his wife before we left, both were very friendly. One star off because the service was kind of slow, but I think that was probably because it was parents weekend at Tulane and they were absolutely swamped. Be sure to check out the great painting of the ladies with the Mardi Gras masks on!

i didn’t know a dinner could be this good. this place was just picture perfect. the service — impeccable. the food — made my knees buckle. the venue — small(not cramped) and intimate(but still couldn’t hear the conversation at the table next to me). we were a group of five. the server made two excellent wine recommendations. each course(appetizer, entrée, dessert) was absolutely divine. i had the house salad(fresh, crisp, lightly kissed with dressing), the tuna(melted in my mouth), and the chocolate cake(heavenly). i rarely get this fired up about a restaurant(see my other reviews), but i have to say vizards really know what they’re doing. AWESOMESTUFF.

This is a fantastic place! We had a large group, about 20 of us, and while the service was slow, we didn’t mind. We had a connection to the owner/chef and found out they have one chef on duty, so expect it to take a bit longer. Everyone I was with had a great meal. I had the filet, and while I’ve had better, it wasn’t too bad. Considering I don’t like«New Orleans» style food, this place had what I liked. Had the chocolate cake for dessert, and that was super yummy. Everyone I was with raved about their food, especially the ribeye. Highly recommend this place. Atmosphere is great, cute little place. Don’t expect a fast meal, they take their time here. And the oyster appetizer got some rave review too(I had the salad, and cleaned the plate!) Go here, and enjoy!(Just watch out for the person across the street who hires a masseuse. They forgot to close the shades, so we had a bit of a show!)

The appetizers were top-notch and the entrees were nothing special. I had the shrimp and crab salad and my partner had the Crabmeat nelson which was truly amazing. For an entrée, I had the lambchops — which had some kind of breading that honestly seemed like shake and bake. I didn’t expect a steakhouse size chop, but these reminded me of the lamb I ate in law school(when I had an extremely tight food budget). Dessert — our dining companions had the black and blue dessert on prior occasions and said this one did not live up. The cake was shaped like a cupcake, a little dry, not warm and there was a small chunk of blue cheese near the top. The flavors were good, but it fell short on texture and execution. We shared our thoughts with the waiter and he said they had a new pastry chef. Other than that, the service was friendly and the artwork on the walls is definitely worth examining.

This place was formerly known as Vizard’s on the Avenue(as in St Charles Avenue) but moved to their current location on Magazine Street earlier this year. My dinner club met there recently for what we hoped was a spectacular meal. The place is a little crowded(really small bar), but it has a rich interior design and real, sturdy wooden chairs — a nice touch. We ordered apps — some to share and some for ourselves — and everyone loved the apps. I tried the following: «BLT»(bowfin caviar, latke, taramasalata), Butcher’s Plate(Chicken leg galantine, country pâté, duck rillete), Gumbo du jour, «Greens, Egg and Ham»(baby spinach, frisee, paneed egg, lardon, manchego, croûton, roasted shallot vinaigrette). All were damn good, especially the ‘greens eggs and ham’ and the gumbo which I believe was a seafood gumbo with a dark roux. Mighty fine appetizers. However, we were all universally disappointed in the entrees. My veal was overcooked and tough and dry; the Gulf Fish Meuniere was also tough and overcooked; and the Pan Seared Redfish was cold. The only thing that was good was the lamb chops. CR would NOT share his chops with anyone, so another diner and I each grabbed a chop while he was distracted and then proceeded give each bone a ‘proper’ cleaning. Damn it was pretty tasty. So apps YES, entrees NO. What to do? Dessert of course. The desserts were really scrumptious! We ordered one each of the«Black and Blue»(soft centered dark chocolate and blue cheese cake, port wine reduction, chantilly cream with coffee ice cream), Warm Pecan Torte and the strawberry shortcake. That was some sight — 10 people sharing 3 desserts! But we all got a taste and that«Black and Blue» was phenomenal. Maybe because of our large group, they had some timing issues with the entrees, but we really did love the apps and their desserts. Probably worth going back…
