I am SO happy I found this place and can not recommend it highly enough. Just go there! In the market for some theatrical make up, I’ve been looking around New Orleans for quite some time for one that stocked Mehron Foundation Sticks. Vieux Carre Hair Shop was recommended to me by a fellow Unilocaler and a Mehron representative so how could I not check it out? Located on the end of Maple St(near Leak Ave), it is a bit out of the way but definitely worth the drive. It’s a small shop in what looks like the family home. It has a front section with a wide variety of masks, once you step inside the store, you’ll see all your costuming needs from wigs to masks to costumes to make up. I came here specifically for the make up so that’s what I’ll write about the most. I was helped by Lynn, one of three workers here, and she was absolutely amazing. She answered all my questions, trialled a few shades for me, and gave me a huge insight into the world of make up. I can’t thank her enough for her assistance with me today. I ended up walking away with three Mehron foundation sticks, Mehron translucent setting powder, and a powder puff all for just over $ 40, a steal! I very much so recommend this place to anyone in the area who is after theatrical make up, wigs, masks, and costuming. You will not be disappointed!

I hate revealing my secret awesome shops, but this place is hidden away on the very end of Maple on the right side of St. Charles if you’re heading towards the river. I needed some serious glitter and makeup that can withstand lots of smiling and sweat… I was told by a handful of little birds, or Sirens if you will, that this place had a cornucopia of makeup which is great if you’re not looking to head into the depths of the Quarter or go out to the mall. The shop isn’t huge, but the staff are so nice. I scooped up some glitter colors; all with pricing clearly marked. I was taking a gander at the costume makeup, but prefer palettes. While they didn’t have them displayed, the employee was more than happy to open each and every one to show me the colors they had. They also have wigs, masks, fake scars, and oodles of other stuff that I’m going to have to go back in and really check out when I have time. The five stars are definitely for convenience, availability of the items I needed, and stellar service. I look forward to putting them into my rotation of places to find great additions to my future costuming!

What a gem for all necessary special effects makeup! I stopped by here because of the good quality face paint they sell and they have multiple options for makeup artists and regular folks looking to take their Halloween/Mardi Gras costumes to the next level. They even carry airbrush paint and Ben Nye products at very reasonable prices. The staff was super friendly and helped me and my husband find exactly what we needed for our Halloween makeup. I will add this as my go to spot from now on for all my special effects makeup needs!

This is a great little store. They are tucked out of the way in the Riverbend. I guess they have«real» wigs in the back, but the front of the store is all costumey stuff. They have tons of wigs, accessories, etc. I was looking for face paint and this was the only place that I could find that sold quality stuff. The man was very patient and showed me the different brands. I bought a 12-color palate for $ 40 — more expensive than the stuff at Party City but you definitely get what you pay for! I used it at a neighborhood block party and it worked really well.
