Easy, fun, loud, cheap. Great location and everyone was super friendly. I was smuggled in next to strangers and everyone was always willing to make room. Drinks were moderately strong!

Best non-touristy dive bar within a very touristy area. Great Sazeracs, friendly staff. Definitely stop by when in the French Quarter to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Amazing sazeracs! You can tell this is a local bar which has a nice feel to it. Don’t bother the nice people of New Orleans if you are gonna be a major tourist but even if you are just stop by to try one of these… Best one I had all week!

Y’know the Chart Room is kind of awesome and it reminds me of the FQ bars of teen years. Solid strong drinks. Cash only. Decent beer list. And a low key spot(usually) to hangout with friends. The prices are good, the service is prompt and the locale is definitely not fancy. Really all I need most of the time.

All time greatest local bar. They know my name for sure. Cash only and they don’t allow Journey on the juke box, thank God. Be kind to the bartenders as they work hard, esp Julie.

Great bar in the quarter! Dark, cheap booze, great juke box, friendly customers. I didn’t get to spend an extended amount of time there but found myself popping in to reorient myself while trying to avoid Bourbon.

Very old bar so if you are looking for modern upbeat atmosphere this is not the place to go. For a good cheap drink with friendly bartenders this is it. Nice laid back bar off of Bourbon. Great place to have drinks and visit. They only take cash but do have an ATM inside.

We were walking down the street, middle of the day, had something scheduled in an hour, wanted a couple of drinks. While my wife was looking around in a shop, I asked the owner«where’s a good bar?» And she said, «The Chart Room» on the corner. «It’s a good pour. It’s cash only though.» This is where the locals go. Not flashy. The Chart Room is a small bar, and the bartender was a lovely lady and the characters, like from a novel, the best, slightly eccentric folks, all kinds, a few tourists. A hand magician dropped by and entertained the crowd. Great talk, good laughs, made my day. I will definitely go back.

Nice clean place to have drinks, watch the game and just hang out. Located away from the madness of bourbon street but still sites to be seen.

Not much else to add from other reviews. Divey bar in a location loaded with touristy stops. Nice respite from bourbon street chaos and friendly bartender. Open space on a sunny 70 degree day, AC cranking, just a good overall vibe. Cash only and poker slots in the back — nice touch.

Loved, loved, loved this bar! We were bar hopping our way to Bourbon St and I found this gem on Unilocal.I asked for a White Russian and the bartender made the best one I tasted in New Orleans! Locals were everywhere and very nice and talkative. Bring cash tho, no credit cards… but it’s so worth it. You won’t be disappointed!

Perfect dive bar. $ 4 well drinks and great music. A nice break from the craziness that is Bourbon, and is a great place to start, or probably end, the evening.

I miss this spot already! Vacaed in NOLA last week, and this was our groups designated«home base» in case things went awry on Bourbon Street. For good reason. Setting is a darker, dingier, divey feel… but the characters are awesome! Got in so many compelling conversations with random people patronizing the joint! Bartender Bryson/Grayson/whateveryouwannacallhimafter2am is the man! We stopped in for a drink one night, wanting a single night cap before heading home, got into random, engaged bantering, finally walked outside, and it was daylight! Well played Chart Room. Perfect off-the-path watering hole with character and history. Make this your home base!

The Chart Room is located around the corner from all the madness and the short distance offers just enough buffer from the maddening tourists and Bourbon St first timers. I often judge bars based on the ease of walking into one without knowing a soul but coming out feeling enriched with a quick hand from the bartender and conversation from people that were strangers when you first walked in. The Chart Room passed this test and most especially on a random afternoon when there were much fewer people inside. Go here. Drink bottled beer. Speak to people. Or don’t. You’ll be fine.

I ended up in The Chart Room on my first night in New Orleans — after walking around and exploring the Quarter and the debauchery that is Bourbon Street, I told my colleague that we needed to find a quieter establishment. We just happened upon the Chart Room, and it was a welcome reprieve. Quiet, and seemed to be filled with mostly locals. Definitely not a tourist trap, despite being right in the heart of the French Quarter. I was there on a Monday night around 9p, and there were quite a few people there, but the vibe of this place is relaxed and laid back, in the best dive bar fashion. If smoke bothers you, sit up in the front where the doors are wide open. We sat at the bar. The drinks were simple and nice and strong — my gin and tonic had a nice strong pour. It’s cash only, divey and the bartender was really friendly. I would highly recommend if you need a break from Bourbon street. This is the kind of bar I would frequent regularly if I lived in the area.

Very fun dive bar. Cheap drinks, real people. A little smoky, but who cares when you have a frosty$ 3 beer and can watch the world pass by? Mix of locals and tourists, but the kind of place where strangers from Philadelphia buy a round for strangers from Wisconsin without even exchanging names? Thanks folks!

The dive bar of all dive bars. If you want a cold cheap drink this is your place. Dimly lot and smoke filled to the point of strangulation– sometimes the only survival technique is to sit at the front in the open doors at one of the two covered tables — or hang by the open front door. Excellent jukebox in the back and the strangest but fairly clean restrooms. They’re — well –campy. Bartenders here are great. This is a no stress hang out place in the heart of the French Quarter
