«Dinner and a Show» This is the way to categorize last evening’s enjoyment at the Bar with Kim. My fiancée and I decided to return to Tamarind for drinks and something to eat after a very difficult work week for both of us. We decided to start with drinks from the fantastic and all knowing mixologist Kim. We stayed at the bar and enjoyed another great meal at Tamarind but was also treated to a show. The show was observing Kim do her thing and at the same time learn from her about the concoctions she creates. And that was a show and made the evening most enjoyable. As for the food the Roasted Shrimp and Pasta was very good. But the Short Rib rose to a five star even if the drinks, service and the show was not a five star. And all of that was on the same level for the evening. A Five Star evening of great drinks, very good food, wonderful service and a show. And another thank you to Van for being the ultimate Hostess. Will be returning shortly for more of what this place does so well.

Easily some of the best cocktails in the city — we’ve tried just about everything on the list and it’s great. Kim is also very nice and provided good food recommendations on our first visit — as opposed to our waiter on the restaurant side recently who was disinterested and recommended dishes that we generally didn’t care for. Sit at the bar, have a couple cocktails(they’re much more exciting than the wine list) and munch on some appetizers — I personally recommend the Vietnamese crêpe and the shrimp. You’ll enjoy your visit.

Tamarind’s bar deserves special mention, indeed. The Oriole might possibly be one of the best cocktails I’ve had in New Orleans, perhaps anywhere. Containing the following glorious spirits– Hendricks gin, St. Germain, Chartreuse– and mixed with a bit of lemon and grapefruit bitters(oh bitters, how I adore your magical addition to a cocktail), it’s fragrant, flavorful, slightly fruity and most important: not too sweet. I tell ya, I finished two in no time flat. I couldn’t control myself. I had to switch to wine after that or I would have been in trouble. A glance at the cocktail menu reveals that these mixologists know their potions and are quite creative with them. Next time, if I can pull myself away from the Oriole, I’ll be ordering the Lavender Chanh Muoi(gin, lavender syrup and salted lemons!!) So now my only problem is, how to decide between The Bar at Tamarind and my beloved Bellocq contained in the very same hotel?!

The bartenders who expertly run the bar at Tamarind(By Dominique) are amazing. Both Kim and Michael make consistently well-crafted standards and ingenious new spirited concoctions. Witty reparte is par for the course with these two. Go and enjoy their bounty of housemade syrups and tinctures, without any pretense or histrionics(okay, maybe a little, but it’ll be in a GOOD way…)
