Great old fashion barbershop atmosphere. Russell seems to be very genuine man with plenty of stories and history to tell of the area. Fair prices($ 14, cash) and quality haircuts. He says he works shorter hours nowadays and all you have to do is call before coming in. Very satisfied and wil be coming back.

What a great guy and even better hair cut. While getting a great cut and hear about the history of the area. Best cut I have had and bring back memories of when I was a kid.

Great service and great stories from a man who has spent over 50 years at this same location. I hate going to hair stylists. I never really know how to accurately describe how I want my hair cut, so when I tell the lady at super cuts or wherever that I just want a regular haircut, for some reason, they always get offended. Here, it’s different. I come in, I sit down and Russell automatically just gives me a regular haircut. I used to go to a hair-stylists about thrice a year, now I feel comfortable enough to go about once a month or so. Alot of the the people who grew up in the neighborhood still come by from all over to get their haircut and catch up on old times while asking about former neighbors. In this way, Russell acts as a sort of nexus for a lost community. What I’m trying to say is that this barbershop is like facebook for old people. Also, Russell has at least 3 old-timey western glamour shots of himself in the shop as well as a large portrait of an owl on display. Also, when Russell tells a story, he’ll usually describe to you the outfit he was wearing when the story took place in exact detail. He does it so fast, though, that you don’t even notice. Kinda weird, huh? Basically, if you’re looking for a decent haircut from someone who knows what he’s doing at an affordable price, I couldn’t recommend a better place. One block from the ferry, in Algiers Point

Would you trust your head to a man with no hair? I did. And he did me proud. Mr. Russell has a wonderful collection of his old toupes along the wall of his shop, so you can see his impeccable quaff through the years. He’s quick to joke with you, tell you all about his family, all about the gossip and will even share a few recipes with you if you are so inclined. I sometimes wish I still lived on that side of the river so I could go to him more often. But sometimes, when I happen to be over there(not much since Dry dock turned into such a stinker), I’ll stop by and get a trim. He always greets me like an old friend and he always does a darned good job on my haircut.
