Visiting from California and have come to this place a few times already! The mozzarella is so good! Their Mac and cheese is amazing… The vibe is great and the customer service is spot on. I love this place, wish I could take it back to Cali with us!

I said it all in my check-in: it is a fantastic gourmet oasis in a deep-fried country. The selection is outstanding!

So often I stumble into the best little places on rainy New Orleans days. Just before a showing at the Prytania Theater(Captain America 3 was great) my band of pirates sauntered in. Ordering up a trio of sandwiches and our bottled beverages of choice, we found a bright table in the corner. The whole staff was very welcoming. Each member had a smile and an air of experience. Actually, one man opened my bottle with the bottom of a plastic lighter, which was neato. Our orders included and were limited to a cubano with salad, brie on toast with ham and duck banh mi. Let me say that again. Duck. Banh. Freakin’. Mi. What else can I say besides give this shop a stop by.

I really wish I hadn’t had breakfast when I first stepped in here, because the smell of their grilled cheese and cheese sandwiches is amazing. We’ve decided to buy a couple of different cheeses, and they let us try a couple, which was perfect. We ended up buying every single cheese we tried: the selection is just impeccable. We will be back for cheese sandwiches!

Wine and cheese were clearly meant to be together… But pairing that with artisan bread, sweet pickles, the freshest salads, and specialty meats is what sets St. James Cheese Company apart. I like heading to St. James Cheese Company on a date with my beaux. Once you walk in, you’re encouraged to make your order at the counter before you sit down. Then, you’re given a number, and get to choose your own seat. Their outdoor and indoor seating options are exceptional. I like sitting on the balcony, in front of the restaurant, most. The conversations flow once you sit down, simply because the place is so beautifully decorated, and you’re in mouth watering anticipation of your meal. Once the food arrives, I can’t help but take a picture. Wether it’s a perfect sandwich, melt-in-your-mouth mac and cheese, or a wonderful meat and cheese board, you’ll be happy with your choice. Going to St. James Cheese Company is a treat, so I hope you’ll treat yourself soon!

We had a cheese platter and left the choices up to the cheesemonger himself. The little fruit and nut tastes went well with the cheese and we enjoyed the mellow atmosphere. Oh, it was a happy hour special too!

Best grilled cheese I’ve probably ever had in my life. Ate at the Magazine location and sat outside to enjoy a rare non-humid NOLA afternoon. The inside space is a little cozy but the amount of cheese you can buy to take home makes up for it. A nice wine selection, but I’m a beer girl and they had a good amount of beer to chose from, even though I went with a local favorite. The prices weren’t bad. A sandwich and two beers under $ 20 is a solid deal on Magazine street. 5 star recommend.

I ordered take out but I really loved everything I saw in the shop. I had planned to go back but their hours and the season didn’t match up with our agenda. I had the staff chose a cured meat sampler and a stinky cheese sampler. I just told them I like it all and have a fairly sophisticated pallet and they did not disappoint. I wish I had a place like this where I live. I would certainly become a regular. There’s so much to try!

Great sandwich and chill atmosphere. I got the popular Hooks Cheddar. Subbed wheat bread and took a little of the delicious cheddar off(Dr told me to cut down). Still a really good sandwich. The cheddar is sharp and tasty. The side salad was also good. Light and healthy. Only complaint is the avocado was a spread. Coming from California, I’m used to whole chunks of avocado. But I understand it’s probably more costly to get avocado here. Still, a great local place with a nice vibe.

So many cheeses to choose from — and a great selection of them! Delicious salads and sandwiches. Take some special cheeses home and enjoy with a nice bottle of wine, perfect dinner for me!

You can never go wrong with any sandwich or salad from St. James. All of the cheeses are so good, and my personal favorite is the Hooks Cheddar with the side salad — the cheddar is extra sharp and is complimented nicely with the other ingredients in the sandwich. There is plenty of seating out front, inside, and in the courtyard, and the outdoor courtyard is dog friendly!

Clean, fresh, healthy, plenty of options, friendly, quick… this place was excellent. Had the pickle taster and the manchengo salad… Pickles were very creative; radishes were my favorite; the cucumbers could have had a little more punch for me and the pears were sweet and sexy. The salad was very good; fresh greens, salty cheese, punchy quince vinaigrette, with a little shaved nuts… Wanted to try the house made pâté but they were out. Would go back again and try some other items!!! If I do I’ll add some more info and pictures!

Cheese Cheese Cheese. Its great. And St. James is the best at providing it. I have been a longtime occasional customer and used to go to their wine and cheese pairings all the time. However after moving further away I had gotten out of the habit of stopping in for a meal or just to grab a slice of something from the counter. That was a mistake. I recently returned and asked the helpful cheesemonger for some suggestions in a pretty useless and vague way. They nailed it and sent me home with some awesome selections and a bit of american prosciutto that was melt in your mouth delicious. It was a welcome reminder that there is cheese, and then there is really really good cheese. It may cost a couple bucks more but in future I am going back for the good stuff.

Best grilled cheese. Is it even fair to call it grilled cheese??? The aged cheddar with bacon on fresh sourdough was heaven. The side salad was a great compliment. The cheesecake was light and fluffy with pear slices and a sweet sauce(maybe caramel.) It was delightful and the ended the meal perfectly. Great job, St. James.

Great sandwiches. Salads were lackluster and you would think the Mac n cheese would be amazing, but I’ve had much better. Steer clear of the Al Green sandwich. A bite of the fatty pork belly on it sent me back to the time I went to a pig farm. If you’ve ever visited a swine farm you know it’s not somewhere that you’d ever want to associate with food– which is ironic but true. So I had to run to get some water to wash that taste out of my mouth.

One of my favorite uptown spots. Food is top notch and the atmosphere makes any meal feel special! I went to lunch here for my 21st birthday and my first legal drink was complementary which made me feel like a valued customer. Friendly staff and great location.

My daughter and I were out running errands on a Thursday night and popped into St James for a quick dinner. The place was packed, so we ordered to go and sat on the porch while we waited for our food. We split the winter citrus salad and a Gruyère sandwich. The salad was fresh baby spinach with Marconi almonds, pink grapefruit sections, pickled onions, a light vinaigrette and blue cheese crostini. Delightful! The sandwich was sliced Gruyère, carmelized onion and we added turkey on a seeded multigrain bread. Good, but the salad was the star.

The meal was fine. The service however leaves little to be desired. My boyfriend brought our untouched plate to the counter to be boxed because silly me thought if you work in the restaurant industry you should do such things for customers. Upon asking for our plate to be boxed, the immature girl working at the counter said(with attitude) «Watch this.» and handed him a box. Thanks for being a bitch. We won’t be back. Cheers!

Wow– this may have been the biggest surprise for me on my trip to NOLA. What a cool, sophisticated yet hip place to stop in for some damn good cheese and wine. Though a bit quaint, I loved the little shop vibe when walking in. Though there was a line, one of the people behind the counter immediately acknowledged us and asked if we had any questions about the menu, which included(of course) a variety of amazing cheeses, tasty meat and cheese plates which my friends wailed about, and even a plethora of wine and draft beers(!). I kept it simple and got a grilled cheese, which was one of the best I had ever tasted. A few friends got a couple of the plates, which displayed an amazing array of cheeses, sauces, and meats that were perfectly complementary to the cheeses. It was great that the waiters who brought the food out gave us an oral road map of what we were tasting, and how the cheeses were paired. This place was just great.

Don’t be fooled by the restaurant setup that makes a naïve passerby assume St. James is simply a store specializing in all sorts of cheese goods. It took me months to finally get here because I didn’t really know what the restaurant had to offer, but man am I glad I finally made it! The cheese shop has the perfect salad and sandwich combos that feature their cheese to perfection. I had the mozzarella panini that had salami, basil and pesto pressed into focaccia. It was stringy cheesy goodness at first bite. If you’re trying to cut back on the lactose, try one of their salads which are humongous and leave you totally satiated. I would recommend the manchego. I think the true charm to this little place though is that they have a really great wine and beer selection which can be perfectly paired with an assorted cheese and charcuterie board. They have outdoor seating so when the weather is nice grab a date and head over to St. James Cheese Company for a low key meal and a great time!

We love St. James Cheese Company. I have been going to the uptown location since I was in college. We are thrilled to see a new location downtown in the Warehouse District. It is the perfect new addition to our neighborhood! The sandwiches and retail are every bit as good as the Uptown location. My only«complaint» is that the Uptown menu carries a few additional items not available downtown… My favorites are Cantal Salad, Ploughman’s lunch, and the Gruyère sandwich.

Hello my name is Martin and I am a cheese-aholic! However to quote Ms. Winehouse«I don’t want to go to rehab» I want to go to St. James’ for a fix. The unparalleled selection of the world’s cheeses on offer(not to mention excellent sandwiches and salads) are irresistible. Thanks to St. James New Orleans has an affinage du fromage on par with any culinary capital. Thank you Richard . for this gift.

Been looking forward to going to this place for a while now. A friend came into town who LOVES cheese and I had a coupon so we have it a go. They were sold out of a good amount of items which was disappointing, but I’m assuming since we went on New Year’s Eve that they were busy. The food was pretty good. I got the manchego salad which was a little lackluster for my tastes. My boyfriend and friend loved their sandwiches, which were huge and came with a side salad. I wish I couldn’t gotten a sandwich but all of the ones they had available had meat in them(I’m a vegetarian). The outside area was cute. They should look into getting space heaters out there. But all in all. id go again and see if this place can earn 5 stars from me.

What a great shop to find any kind of cheese your looking for. My friend and I ordered the 3 cheese and 2 meat board that was more than enough. It was served with preserves and some coarse brown mustard. It also came with some glazed walnuts grapes and a basket of sliced fresh ciabatta bread. $ 17.50 for the cheese board and $ 28.00 for a very nice Pinot Noir. That should have been enough but we also ordered the il mostro sandwich that was huge. I recommend getting there early as it gets pretty crowded but now is the time to go and enjoy your lunch outside

I eat here more than I have ever eaten at any other establishment in this city. If you don’t like this place I simply don’t trust you as a human. Every 1 star rater needs to take a step back and reevaluate everything in their lives. Everything I have ever had here is fantastic and amazing and I can come in sweatpants if I want and still feel like the classiest happiest human ever. I truly believe that the Brie de Meaux cures all ailments. I can be having the worst day ever and this sammie turns it almost completely around(I’ve tested this theory multiple times). All of my out of town guests always enjoy it and beg to go back.

The best restaurant to get away and indulge in wine, cheese, and cured meats. I’ve never had the sandwiches or salads, but I hear they are great! It gets very busy despite the indoor, outdoor, patio, and porch seating.

A coworker and I decided to adopt a Cheese Friday and this was the third spot on our monthly trip. I didn’t know what I wanted to order because everything looked delicious so I asked the guy at the register what he suggested — I opted for the Gruyère Sandwich — and added ham to Cave aged Swiss Gruyère and caramelized onion confit grilled on Wild Flour multigrain bread with a side salad and an iced tea. The salad was very good for a «side» and i woofed it down before even picking it apart to see what was in it — it was composed of some greens(spring mix?), cheese and dressing. Next, I took a bit of my sandwich and it was to die for! the only thing that could have made this thing better were if they put thin slices of apples on the sandwich! I don’t even LIKE multigrain bread and I couldn’t get over how yummy this grown up grilled cheese sandwich was in my tummy! My coworker had the Mac and Cheese and a cheese plate, and I sampled the Mac and Cheese. I’m not sure which cheese’s were used but the Mac and Cheese had a bite to die for. I cannot wait for the next time I come here because I think I want to get the Smokey Blue.

St. James will make all of your wildest dreams about cheese come true! The Manchego Salad and Hooks Cheddar Sandwich are my official recommendations from the menu, but if you come here without getting a cheese plate, you trippin. Let them pick the cheeses; they know what they’re doing. I always ask for a hard, soft, and bleu for variety’s sake, though. The plates usually come with perfectly paired chutneys, spreads, nuts, fruit, bread, crackers, and/or meats. Get a bottle of wine for a pleasantly complete lunch or dinner at a reasonable price!

I absolutely LOVE St. James. In fact, I love it SO much that I wish I could just move to the area so I could walk there every weekend for a bit of wine, cheese and charcuterie on a regular basis. When I REALLY love a place for such a variety of reasons, I feel it is usually best that I just break it down in a list of numerical fashion. Sort of like when middle school girls gather together to compile a strategic list of all their grand expectations of adulthood. 1) The price is right. Cheese Board prices are as follows: 3 — $ 12.50, 5 — $ 17.50, 7 — $ 23.50, 10 — $ 30.00 and you can make as many customizations as you would like. Don’t like blue cheeses or strong cheeses? That’s fine. Just let them know and they will customize a cheese plate to your liking. Want to experiment with some more pungent cheeses or have an affinity for a specific type of goat cheese? They will customize that too! The cheese boards also are accompanied with a sliced bread basket, charcuterie, and a variety of tasting paraphernalia like mustard, pickles, jam, olives, honey coated walnuts, grapes, etc. I find the prices here to be much more modest and the portions to be a lot more generous compared to most other wine and cheese bars in the city. 2) I love how all the cheese and charcuterie boards are all different. The person next to you might also have a 5 cheese and charcuterie board, but chances are, it doesn’t look just like yours. This keeps each experience a little fresh and new because you are always being served a rotational variety of cheeses. 3) The deli. My notoriously favorite sandwich is the ILMOSTRO with spicy capicola, rosemary ham, rosa salami, provolone, pickled red onions, herb/pepperoncini mayo, lettuce, tomato on a Bellegarde ciabatta. They hand slice all their meats right there in front of you so it’s fresh every time. Nothing is pre-made here. They also have a side salad with a ceasar-like dressing that’s just so simple, but just so good. Which brings me to my 4th point… 4) St. James is unpretentious. Plenty of other wine and cheese bars might be nice but they tend to usually give me a sense that I probably don’t know enough about exotic cheeses and wine pairings to create the most optimal experience for myself or for a group of people. I hate feeling like I’m undeserving of some sort of worldly and complicated cheese and wine expectation. St. James on the other hand does all the work for you. They pair you a great variety of cheeses and tasting accessories, and you just experiment as you go while enjoying the no pressure ambiance. If you are a cheese lover but don’t know a whole lot about what cheeses are what, this is a great place to experiment and the staff is really helpful at explaining everything they picked out for you so you can keep track. On the other hand, if you don’t really care about how rare the Dutchland goat cheese is that was stored for 2 years in an oak barrel before they carefully shipped it to your restaurant by way of religious monks… don’t worry, there’s no test afterwards and they won’t give a lecture on it unless you really want lots of detail. 5) Enclosed outdoor and patio seating. The outdoor seating is intimate with big umbrellas and often very shady due to the small space between buildings. Dogs are welcome to join outside but it doesn’t ever turn into a big crowded dog park/bar situation like you would find at Bull Dog. I love sitting outside here, even during the hotter months since it is so shady. The atmosphere is very laid back and will invite you to stay far longer than you anticipated. The pace gets a bit more packed during lunch time so if you want to stay a good long while and get an outdoor seat, try coming on a weekend or at an off-hour. I find it optimal to share a bottle of wine and split a cheese board amongst good company. Often I’ll even order a sandwich to-go for later on. Perfect for catching up with friends over lunch or as an early-in-the-day social meet up spot before going elsewhere.

This place is so amazing. I could experiment here for months and months just tasting a little of this and that. Their cheese selection is legendary and their meats are pretty top notch as well. We went with a mixed meat/cheese charcuterie and it was spot on for a perfect lunch. We asked for softer«stinky» cheese varieties and they did not disappoint. Their selection is unmatched anywhere I’ve ever been and the people that work there seem to be pretty dialed in on their product. The cheeses they selected were so good and exactly what I love. The meats were cut perfectly and were of very high qualify. On the minor quibble side it was a little inconvenient to enjoy a few glasses of wine having to get up and head to the counter each time you wanted a new glass. In fairness I should have just gotten a bottle but I wanted to try the wines before I committed to that. For such a place with an amazing array of meats and cheese I thought the wine selection was rather simple and limited. I would expect much more passion for a list in a foodie place like this. I would certainly consider these two point very minor and think this place is a solid 4.5 star. Great job St. James!

I loved my sandwich but I do have a few gripes. The online menu may differ from the actual menu. Read carefully before ordering. The«side salad» is just mixed greens. I hate when restaurants do that… stick to the chips instead! Otherwise, the sandwich was delicious and fairly priced for the size. The layout inside is really cramped. Theres no place to wait for a togo order, you’ll either be «in line» or «in the way» of someone trying to get to/from a table. There is a super cute patio where you can enjoy your meal with a glass of wine or beer! Highly recommended option!

A must-hit for culinary souvenirs. Every imaginable type of cheese with expert cheesemongers to guide you through their impressive selection. Need an artisan goat milk cheese from Indiana? They got that. Need a cheese pairing for a Flemish Red Sour Ale? Easy-peasy. Not feeling fancy, no worries, St. James also carries classics as well — Parmesean, cheddar, brie, Manchego. Just let the monger know preferences, enjoy the samples, and take home a treasure. They’ll even securely pack it with a chill pack if you’re traveling.

We came here for the first time today & we’re glad we did! Started with a glass of rosé and a brew, & sat on the patio while we waited for our food. It was a Saturday afternoon and busy but the atmosphere was great. The sandwiches were worth the wait. I ordered the mozzarella sandwich and subbed tomatoes instead of salami. The bread was perfectly toasted with creamy mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and pesto. My boyfriend ordered il mostro, he said it was delicious as well-piled high with meat, cheese and greens. The side salads with fresh arugula and parmigiano reggiano were light and paired perfectly with the sandwiches. We will definitely come back!
