I ate at the Mosquito Supper Club for their fais do do brunch and the music, energy and environment were all great. The seating was pretty limited with small uncomfortable chairs as they really wanted to motivate you to hurry up and eat so you could get up and start dancing. The food was fairly priced but I found the portion sizes to be too small for my appetite so you needed to order several things. I really liked the shrimp and grits but I wasn’t that crazy about the chicken and waffles or quiche. I’m not much of a breakfast food person anyway so I would’ve liked to have seen more lunch type items on the menu. The mixed drinks were limited but they had a nice selection of cocktails available. Overall it was a nice event but I think I would like the food at the dinner events more so maybe they will do a fais do do dinner soon.

Thanks to Rene, I was able to check out the Mosquito Supper Club last week. AND the menu was even pescetarian friendly so I didn’t have to abstain from a single course! Be warned that this is a limited seating dinner so buy your tickets in advance online The environment was very homey and fun, although the tables were a bit crowded with last minute additions. Get there early/on-time to get a good spot, or y’know the chairs with backs. Everything is served family style so be prepared to pass around. And don’t be shy about gobbling up seconds. The staff was lovely and the food was tasty. My favorites were the cucumber & tomato salad(because, dang, those tomatoes were PERFECT), the stuffed crabs(being cooked in the crabshells added so much flavor and style), and the blackberry dumplings. I almost regret gobbling up all my Pop Rouge ice cream since I had no room left for more dumplings. But how could I resist ice cream that was bro2’s favorite drink when we were kids. The rose that was offered as the wine of the evening was a perfect accompaniment to the meal. There were also a variety of local beers(not for me) and a house made cocktail with mulberries… but I didn’t have those. Water was self-serve after the first pour and was available on the table in recycled wine bottles. Oh, wait, my OTHER favorite was the biscuits served with butter, mixed with cane syrup. Yummy! At the end of the night we got to listen to audio clips of one of the owner’s grandmother and I loved hearing her accent. And then, of course, there were Boudreaux jokes… and not the ones that my Parran told. And I forgot to mention at first that one of our cooks was Toby Rodriguez, who you may remember from the Bourdain Boucherie episode of his show.

Sultry summers at the fishing camp. Family and friends laughing, music playing and the denizens sharing what life was like when they were young. This private dining room offers a glimpse into life as a true-blue Cajun, unvarnished and joyful. You can make reservations for their monthly dinner or contact them for your own event. Served & seated family– style, it’s BYOB or try one of the daily cocktail, wine, or beer selections. This night, we had: Biscuits with butter infused with Steen’s Cane Syrup Seafood gumbo: Cajun, so no okra and a deep, dark roux. Served with rice & potato salad.(I am Crèolé, so you know my thoughts on the subject.) Crawfish croquettes Tomato & cucumber salad with a smattering of black-eyed peas. The tomatoes were summer’s essence: fresh and mouth-watering. Stuffed crab — a standout! Redolent of lush crabmeat and subtle seasoning Blackberry dumplings and Pop Rouge ice cream I’d definitely go back in cooler weather to see what wild game offerings will appear. A great way to eat as a locavore and a unique dining option for visiting guests.
