This is my favorite Chinese place in New Orleans. They have the best quality ingredients Ive ever had at a typical«American» Chinese place. The appetizers are great, the hot and sour soup is the best, and favorite dish is the kung pao shrimp. They have some different menu items that set them apart from other Chinese places. Be careful though — some of the main dishes can be kind of bland. Sadly, they don’t deliver… but this is probably a good thing, because otherwise I’d wind up ordering a ton of food from them. Highly recommend!

First visit was good. The Kew scallops with vegetables was light,(seemed low calorie,) and delicious. The dinner portion was a little smaller and the price slightly more than other restaurants, but the quality was higher. Also, very polite and attentive staff. I’ll be coming back.

Love this nearby spot for their fresh and tasty Chinese fare. This is not your typical Chinese takeout place, Ming’s uses high quality ingredients and offers a sit-down restaurant experience. Everything we’ve tried has been delicious.

Came here the other day and thought it was alright. Nothing special, but not bad either. The shrimp toast appetizer was pretty good. Slightly different than shrimp toast I am used to, but still good. My table also ordered the garlic chicken and the beef lo mein. The garlic chicken was good, but surprisingly not very garlicky(sp?). For the beef lo mein they used thin noodles instead of the thicker noodles you typically find in American-Chinese food. I think the thinner noodles they used are what are typically used in Cantonese style lo mein. My table was expecting the thicker noodles so we were a little disappointed by this so good to know before you order. I have had a lot of really good Chinese food around the country and compared to that this meal wasn’t that good. That being said, I’m still searching for a really good Chinese food place in New Orleans and I feel like this place might be one of the better Chinese food places I have been to in this city.

We visited here last week when we were in NOLA for a vacation from Houston. We are Chinese and all four of us were very satisfied, although it’s American Chinese! You can tell it’s not 100% real Chinese food for Chinese people because they don’t have Chinese menu.
1. affordable price, especially the lunch special. 2. friendly staff and helpful customer services! My parents came to visit me from China, so they don’t speak English. Before they even asked, someone from the kitchen who can speak Chinese talked to them, explained things and answered questions. 3. yummy food. Cho cho is yummy with meat stuffing and I like their hot sour soup a lot too. Our favorite is green pepper beef. The beef is very soft and delicious. 4. large portion. The combination rice includes much more(meat, etc.) than normal fried rice at other places. Cho cho is big and the spring/egg roll is even bigger! We ordered 4 lunch specials and had some leftover. 5. They gave us a lot of steam rice for free. The owner Ming’s mom was very generous and offered us free ice cream at the end. We didn’t take any but we were surprised and appreciated. Very much worth every penny! Highly recommended! Will come back if we go to NOLA again. They are busy during lunch hour but nice outside area is available.

As a person who likes to travel I have had great Chinese food from all over the country and New Orleans is one city that horribly lacks credible Chinese food. I was told how great Ming’s was so I went with a few friends on Christmas Eve for a traditional Chinese Christmas meal. I began with cho cho’s which was good but not as good as the ones at China Doll. Then we proceeded to order the soups. I had my usual hot and sour soup which again I thought was just ok. Prepared to order the Peking Duck like in the movie A Christmas Story I did not see it on the menu and was fortunate when the waitress told me it was on special so I proceeded to order it as my entrée. My friends ordered the standard Chinese fair, salt and pepper pork, shrimp in lobster sauce and Mongolian beef. Well everyone got their food but me which was fine because I knew that my order would take a minute. So the time kept on ticking and my friends were almost finished their meal when mine finally arrived about 20 minutes after my friends ordered. Turns out the duck meat and skin was pulled off the bone and served with sticky buns and hoisin sauce to make a sandwiches out of. Maybe this should have been an appetizer because needless to say I got way more bread than meat. I was supposed to get brown rice with this dish that I ended up never getting and not needing anyway. The owner did come and apologize and I expected maybe a free cocktail or taking the appetizer off the bill, nope all I got was an «Im Sorry» and worse off made the mom coming out of the kitchen to apologize seemed mighty awkward considering she obviously didnt speak much English. Their lunch menu seems to be a much better deal than their dinner menu which is standard at most Chinese restaurants. After this experience though I dont know if I will ever be back. I have come to the conclusion that this is a Vietnamese town and trying to get a fix on great Chinese food in New Orleans is near impossible.

First time I’ve tried a Chinese restaurant that I actually love. The food was cooked fresh on sight and not frozen crap everyone else cooks. Egg rolls that u could tell were hand rolled and cooked fresh only because the ingredients were good tasting and full not to much doe and air. We also had soup and it was tasty and hot. Most places u can’t get hot and sour soup and actually get what it says it is hot and sour. Loved it. Lo mein was freshly cooked and welly seasoned. Sweet and sour pork was hand cut and breaded it tasted good. Over all I live on the West Bank side of New Orleans and it was amazing food definitely will be going back.

My daughter wanted some Chinese food Saturday night and she wasn’t happy with last two places we tried. A friend had told me about Ming’s and how great it was so we looked it up and found the menu and ordered a few things to pick up. She got the honey walnut shrimp and she loved it and I had to try it and it was the best I’ve ever had! Then we had an order of shrimp fried rice and I was blown away by the amount they gave us. It was enough to feed 6 people and really good. I got the lettuce wraps and it was also very good. We definitely found our new Chinese place and will be trying many things. It’s a small place but a really nice setting with an outdoor area and lights very romantic too.

You must try the crab rangoons! Seriously the best I’ve had in a while. They were very large and full, not to mention delicious. All the portions were pretty large. We ordered 4 dinners, some rangoons, and a couple egg rolls, which was plenty for a small group of friends.

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the city! The lunch plates are a great deal. The crispy shrimp is delicious and has this really great sauce. The hot and sour soup is good and very spicy. I haven’t eaten anything here that wasn’t good. The service is no frills, but very efficient and attentive.

My wife said to me last year, no more Chinese food. Every place we went the food was mediocre at best and white fried rice(go figure). But when I saw a deal and read the reviews on Unilocal I convinced she to try it. So I ordered dishes we use to get 35 years ago. Steamed dumplings, BBQ ribs, Combination fried rice and Sizzling wor bar. Everything was delicious and fresh. We will be back next week to try other menu items.

Chinese food is my thing and i eat it two times a week or more. After reading reviews here my gf and I went for the first time yesterday evening. We got steamed dumplings for appetizer then she got Moo Goo Gai Pan and I got Mu Shu Pork. The dumplings were good but I had better. My gf got her food and it was bland and just not all that great. In the 30 months I have known her she has never sent food back anywhere we went. This was the first time she done that and she totally loves chinese food. She never ordered anything else. My food was just ok but tasted more like fajitas then any kind of Chinese food. It said it came with crepes but in reality it was just tortillas. Waiter was great and service good but the food definitely could have been much better. Prices were a tad higher then other Chinese places. Overall its hard for me to recommend, at least what we got. I think maybe a different dish such as egg foo young may have been better. The food needs more of a chinese kick to it. On a plus note the atmosphere was really nice. We may try again one day but not anytime soon because we not around there much.

As I sit here this morning eating my leftover general tso chicken from Ming’s, I can say this place is definitely worth going to. GETTHECHOCHO! Those things were freakin outstanding. My only complaint is that when I ordered my general tso, my waiter(who was wonderful, by the way) asked«mild or spicy?» Of course I replied«spicy»…well, if this is spicy then the mild must be pretty bland. Other than that, it’s really delicious. Most of the time when I order something like this I feel like I’m eating chicken nuggets with an inch of batter and covered in sauce; not the case here. We had a great time at Ming’s. Service was friendly, the restaurant itself is very nicely decorated, and the food was definitely some of the best Chinese I’ve had in NOLA. So go to Ming’s… ANDDONTFORGETTOORDERTHECHOCHO!

I learned recently that there are more Chinese restaurants in the U.S. than McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Domino’s and Pizza Hut, combined. Then why is it so hard to find good Chinese food in New Orleans? Did you know that New Orleans used to have a Chinatown? It used to be where the Tulane Med Center is. Then when THEMAN™ demolished that, they tried to rebuild right on Bourbon St.: Again, why is it so hard to find good Chinese food in New Orleans? Some things can never be explained. Ming’s was a pleasant surprise to find in Lakeview. The lunch special’s a steal. The cho cho, recommended by many Unilocalers, a meat-filled fried wonton, is definitely worth getting as your side. Tasty spices(clove? cinnamon?). The General Tso’s was good — the best cooked-chicken I’ve had in the dish in New Orleans(tender and juicy), although not as spicy as I like it, so asking for chile sauce is a must(or maybe next time I’ll order it spicier). The Ma Po Tofu was the best I’ve had in New Orleans, too. Great Szechuan peppercorn flavor, and nice and spicy, although I’ve definitely had spicier in other Szechuan restaurants. The server seemed to forget just about everything we asked for. But we got it eventually. Slightly more attentive service and I might bump this to 5, but only for New Orleans Chinese, which is a cut below most cities(keeping in mind we’re a cut above most cities on just about every other front…).

I’m still kind of conflicted over this restaurant. I work nearby, and quite often, their parking lot is full. The interior is clean, the wait staff is friendly enough. I came for an early dinner, and am still feeling kind of underwhelmed. The dinner was hot, fresh and lightly seasoned/sauced. The noodles were HARD and crispy. They did soften up from the beef and vegetables. I was afraid to eat too much of the noodles, as I have braces, and have developed an odd relationship with noodles. The portions are quite large, and enough for leftovers, which after time, the noodles do seem to be much better given time. For desert, they serve ice cream from Creole Creamery. I had vanilla bean, and it was awesome. The bill arrived promptly, and was able to finish paying before desert was done(YAY!). Everything about this restaurant, in my opinion, is completely just ok.

Great restaurant! We now have fresh Chinese in Lakeview! We love the egg rolls and spring rolls! Try the crispy shrimp! So lightly fried in rice flour and not greasy at all! Yum! The portions of friend rice are tremendous! So, you will want to share or get ready to eat if for 3 days straight! Haha! Good wine list! Great service! One of the owners, Ming, is particularly nice, and will go out of his way to make sure you have a fantastic meal! He answers all menu questions and offers suggestions too! It’s one of our newest takeout go-to places! And we like dining in too!

Delicious! Our first time! The egg drop soup and crab Rangoon were great appetizers! Chicken and shrimp lettuce wrap were well seasoned. Had sweet and sour chicken, all white meat sauce comes on the side. Fresh tasting with friendly service!

Service was decent, attentive and friendly. All three entrees(shrimp chow fan, Kung pao shrimp, and the chef special duck dish) were made using the same muddy brown sauce as a base. Only one entrée had chili added to the brown base. The fried rice was tasteless. Shrimp toast appetizer was the highlight of the meal. There is nothing Chinese about this place. It looks like a quickly thrown together restaurant of no particular ethnicity. The server did not ask if I wanted chop sticks. :/ Will not return.
