What a joyful experience I had at La Petite Grocery. We had a group of six and they were very accommodating(make reservations). Starting out they serve warm beignet bread and soft butter. it’s the little pleasures in life, soft butter and warm bread make me happy! The menu was one page which was nice because it didn’t take long to marinate over and decide. I went with LPG Cheese burger, this wasn’t your normal cheeseburger, it was cooked to perfection accompanied by house made pickles, onion marmalade, Gruyère cheese and an aioli on a toasted bun and hand cut fries… keep doing what you’re doing La Petite Grocery, spot on with this burger! Two in our group got the Blue crab beignets and those were unforgettable! Loved everything about our lunch!

Walked right in Sunday at around 11:30 without a reservation and had a wonderful meal consisting of paneed rabbit, waffles and one of the special of the days fried chicken. All were fine and enjoyable, but the real hit was the blue crab beignets and green tomato salad with prosciutto(or was it thinly sliced country ham) served as appetizers. Those two items were fantastic and we had to order more. Polite, efficient service. Great location with nice interior. Put it on your list So why only four stars? The batter on the rabbit could have been lighter, but this is a super critical observation that should not stop anyone from going and enjoying a fantastic dining experience — just expressing my personal preference.

Hands down-my favorite new(to me) restaurant. I am not certain how I have gone all of these years and never visited, but made the choice to stop in New Years Day with family and definitely a great selection. Upscale cuisine, yet very friendly and non pretentious. We greatly enjoyed our entire dining experience and will be back very soon!

Great Brunch! I’m not going to stretch this review out. We started out with cocktails… wonderful. Then on to appetizers. Loved the blue crab beignets. The entrees were, pork loin & biscuit(eggs Benedict,) waffles, Shrimp & grits and the BELA sandwich. All exceptional! We will be back.

Blue crab beignets: delicious. 5 dollar cocktails at the bar for happy hour: awesome. White table cloth service at the bar: cool. Best grits I’ve ever had in my life: priceless. Well, it was like not that expensive. Simple stone ground grits with butter and chives. My friend and I concurred that even though we did not grow up eating grits somehow these grits just tasted like comfort food. And that’s a difficult level to reach. The jar of pickles wasn’t so good, but that was the one downside of our mid-afternoon snack spot. Everything else was perfect.

I’m going to start by saying the alligator bolognese didn’t wow me. It was good, but I’ll never order it again. But everything else… oh my god! I will dream about the blue crab beignets and the smokey toffee chips on the chocolate torte… I’m salivating just thinking about it. Service was impeccable. Wonderful atmosphere. Be sure to make a reservation(a few days in advance if you want to be able to pick a time).

Absolutely Devine. In a city with a reputation for the best food, La Petite delivers and then some. Blue crab beignets, ricotta dumplings, butterscotch pudding. Yum, yum, yum. Perfect service, warm romantic ambience, loved it.

After hearing good comments from a friend and reading about La Petite Grocery on Unilocal,we went there on a weekday for lunch at 1 p.m. It was nice! The atmosphere was comfortable yet upscale with efficient and friendly service. For starters we had the blue crab beignets that were very good, full of crab and bursting with a wonderful creamy sauce. Our entrées were the shrimp and grits and the paneed rabbit. Both were excellent. The shrimp and grits were very flavorful, and the paneed rabbit was lightly fried just right. For dessert we shared the cheesecake with Satsuma sorbet. It was a good use of Satsumas that are now in season. The dessert was small, but very nice to end our meal. Many of the other diners ordered the hamburger. It must be good… We will definitely return and recommend this restaurant to others.

The Blue Crab Beignets are one of the best things I’ve ever eaten and I am very much not into Seafood. The dipping sauce was like whoaaa, dang! For my entrée I had the burger and it was pretty damn good, cooked perfectly! My only complaint would be a soggy bottom bun. I also had the brussel sprouts and they were wonderful and crispy.

The Ricotta dumplings were incredible. Delicate and tender and beautifully flavored. Everything else was just ok. The fried green tomatoes were bland. The smoked catfish dip was pretty good, smoky and rich, if a little under-seasoned. The mussels were strange, lots of greens piled on top and peppers haphazardly scattered throughout. The service. Well. Our server forgot about us for awhile. She forgot our check. She forgot about the next round of small plates. She was forgetful. It is a pretty restaurant though.

One of New Orleans’ treasures, to me la Petite Grocery represents the very highest expression of a New Orleanian cooking that seems old and new at the same time. I had the Paneed Rabbit over spaetzle, wilted greens, turnip purée & sauce grenobloise. I asked the waitress of my suspicion and was right: sugar in the breadcrumbs. Yummy yummy.

We had lunch here recently and it was a memorable meal. Interior is open and airy, with lots of natural light pouring in from Magazine st. windows. There is an abundance of table options as there are no walls inside, so there’s plenty of spots to sit when the rush hour hits. Service was prompt and friendly. She grabbed our drink orders quickly and kept the pacing great throughout our meal. Food itself was fantastic. I had one of the specials which was a classic ruben, which sounds actually pretty boring, but can assure you it was very very good. Ingredients get a lot of care and attention here which makes the flavor of whatever you order pop. To top it off, everything bustling out of the kitchen looked plated with care which is always a nice touch at a place that isn’t serving all white table cloth type food. Overall our experience was great. They’ve achieved a great mix between casual and fine dining, in a relaxed atmosphere that’s very warm and welcoming. Will be back for their brunch we keep hearing ravings about.

Great brunch! Sat at the bar, which is always the best way to go. Had a delish hamburger. Really excellent. A few bloody marys, and left with a very happy tummy! Plan to dine there for dinner as I hear that is equally as good as brunch

If it’s one thing that I truly do enjoy, it’s a good Sunday brunch. I don’t get around to doing it that often, but when I do, I absolutely love and treasure it. For our last meal in NOLA, my husband and I chose La Petite Grocery for our Sunday meal, and it was definitely worth the calories and the excursion out to East Riverside. We decided on the following: — Blue Crab Beignets: These little fluffy, pillowy but creamy fried bites were absolutely incredible. I don’t normally choose the sweet, savory/seafood items, but since Unilocal recommended them, we went for it! These are an absolute must-eat item if you’re there! — Hot Iron Buttermilk Waffle with peaches & vanilla ice cream: I was craving a sweet entrée item so badly, and this definitely hit the spot. It had a touch of syrup, some walnuts, and while I was worried that it needed butter, the ice cream took care of that part of it. — LPG Cheeseburger: My husband debated this one for awhile between the special of the day(fried pork) and the cheeseburger, and decided on the burger. I had a few bites of it, and while the french fries were delicious and the burger had a delicious onion marmalade, the burger itself was fairly standard. Service was really great, our server was pleasant, helped us decide on what to order, and attentive to us throughout our entire meal. While we were the first ones to be seated and were the only ones for awhile, it definitely picked up by the time we left. I would love to come back here for dinner and try some of their other dishes, especially if those crab beignets are on the menu!

Ehhhh… it was ok. Overall, food was a little bland for my taste. Here’s the breakdown. Came here my girlfriend, my sister and BIL. Great company! Started out with a salad and a few appetizers. Salad was a total bomb. It was their mixed green special with blue cheese vinaigrette. The dressing to greens ratio was off — not enough dressing. In the end, the dressing wasn’t any good so who cares about the ratio. We left half the dish uneaten. Appys were the seafood beignets and the burrata. The beignets sounded awesome but lacked any decent seasoning. They were extremely creamy on the inside but were neither sweet or savory. High expectations on the seafood beignets made for a disappointment. I’d rank the dish a 2⁄5. The buratta was ok — 3⁄5. Small portion too. But because it wasn’t much of a hit, no one minded. Saving grace of the night — the burger. My girlfriend and sister both got it. It was really tasty. Soft, buttery bun. Fresh dressings and a house sauce. Sometimes I judge a restaurant strictly on their burger. Le Petite had a good one. Unfortunately, it was the only really tasty dish we had. Because the burger was so good, I’m giving Le Petite Grocery the benefit of the doubt. I bet they have some other nice dishes… we just didn’t order them. Service was ok. Nice lady for our waitress. She was fairly prompt. Pleasant enough. Not great but not bad either. Ambience was very cool. Shabby chic. Ornate ceilings, fancy bar, mason jars. The place was charming. It reminded Shari V. of a French country cottage kitchen… well said Shari V. All in all, I won’t repeat. Shari V Quote: «The beignets were seasoned like we’re in Ohio». Ouch

Loved La Petite Grocery. Perfect for a special night out… low lighting creates a romantic, intimate space for a date night, but they also have larger tables that are great for groups. It just felt like a special place to be and was packed even on a Sunday night. We had a late lunch so we didn’t go all out on the food. We had… –Crab Beignets: delicious but very rich –Steak Tartare: not your standard steak tartare, but my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every last bite –Shrimp special: these shrimp were huge and delicious –Bittersweet Chocolate Torte: fantastic, we wanted more We would definitely love to return here the next time we’re in New Orleans, just an all-around lovely spot.

We had a great final lunch in New Orleans at La Petite Grocery. It’s not a quick meal. they definitely take their time through the drinks then appetizers then entrees… so be aware of that. We were there for a good 2 hours, which was nice, since we had a lot of time and catching up to do. I think how you order here is pretty important and luckily I ordered(and received) exactly what I was craving. SPLITAPPETIZERS — Hand Made Spaghetti(blue crab, mustard greens & colatura di alici) Pickle Jar(daily assortment) Blue Crab Beignets(malt vinegar aioli) All were interesting and I’m glad that I tried them, but nothing blew me away. Yes, even the crab beignets did not blow me away. But, they were good, and worth trying, since, as I said, they were all interesting. MAIN — B.E.L.T.(smoked bacon, sunny-side up fried egg, arugula, tomato & herb aioli on multi-grain with hand cut fries) — this was awesome. The bacon could have been a bit crisper(I ended up pulling some of it out) but otherwise perfect. A generously sized sandwich, perfect since I was starving. I had been deciding between this and the shrimp roll, and when I saw the shrimp roll, was happy about my choice. I think I would have been really disappointed had I ordered that(hence why I think ordering is so important here). DESSERT– Buttermilk Waffle with Ice Cream and Candied Pecans — this was a daily special and we shared it as a dessert for the table. Delicious — the only thing that could have made it better was a higher ice cream to waffle ratio. But the waffle was just as it should be. slightly crispy on the outside, hot and warm on the inside.

we ate our way through New Orleans and this was one of my favorites. oh grits you delicious thing you. I’ve been dying for grits the second I got off the plane. New York will never do grits like the south does them… NEVER! they were perfect here. also tried the ricotta dumpling things and don’t see what the big deal is. they weren’t bad but they weren’t omg. I much more enjoyed my grits. I also love the small portions and think that should be more common. people don’t understand restaurants give you way too much food and you feel you need to finish it eat so much more… :) just a little fact.

La Petite Grocery is where I officially fell in love with shrimp ‘n’ grits, a southern delicacy. All these years, I’d been turning up my nose at the sheer idea of grits. They looked like cream of wheat, a breakfast item that I avoid like the plague. But I had a taste the night before and was like, «Hey, why not give it an official try?» I was totally wrong. When done right, grits are buttery, creamy, decadent… these are all things I look for in vacation food. Add some locally sourced shellfish in there, along with some bacon fat and you’ve got a very happy customer. As for the other parts of dining at La Petite Grocery, it’s 5-stars all the way. Air conditioned(which is very necessary on a hot summer afternoon in NOLA), friendly servers, white linen napkins, seasonal menu, great people watching. I could move in upstairs! It’s exciting to hear that Justin Devillier is taking on another restaurant in the city. The next time I go back, will definitely make it a point to visit. LOVE this restaurant!
