A Druid was a member of the educated, professional class among the Celtic peoples during the Iron Age. The class included law-speakers, poets, doctors and other learned professions, though the best known were the religious leaders. The Iron Age was from the 8th Century BC to the 6th Century BC where the use of Iron was leading in what was highlighted in that age. All of this being said, I really enjoyed this parade and explains some of the Knights garb going on. Krewe of Ancient Druids is one in the long line of Uptown parades that is full of energy and is nice to watch. This parade was pretty weak on branded throws. I did not see much in the way of specialty beads or plastic cups being thrown, though I did like the light up wizards hats being thrown. I also liked the tree theme that most of the floats had. This was my first time seeing this parade as I have usually been busy on Wednesday nights since I moved down here in the summer of 2011. I look forward to making this part of my annual tradition. One thing that I noticed that I did not like as there are high school marching bands in the parades that there was horse dung left behind. These poor kids and others don’t want to have to walk the remainder of the parade with poo on their shoes. The vehicle behind the horses in question did have shovels and garbage cans to take care of business, but the two guys sitting on the tail gate pointed at the poop and did not pick it up. My favorite troupe of dancers was the Amelia Earhart flyers! What a great group of gals! So enthusiastic!
