This was an excellent birthday celebration, however; it was not the party for everyone. It takes a great friend to stay out, especially with the knowledge that we would be going to some of the worst bars in the city. Joi, Jen, Larissa, Lindsay, Mande and Scott, you are all awesome people. We began the night at Dos Jefes. It was my first time there, but I became a quick fan. Nola Hopitoulas on tap, couches and Sunpie made this a great place to start the night. We probably should have stayed, but this night was all about the bad bars. Next up was a bar that I never really liked, but was always forced to attend. I tried warning people prior to our arrival, but I don’t think they believed me. TJ Quills, home of the two dolla holla on Saturday nights was exactly how I remembered it from 1994. I tried playing some ridiculous music on the jukebox, but it never came up. If you were at TJ’s that night and heard the combination of Lil Wayne, Wild Tchoupitoulas and Type O Negative, you’re welcome. After TJ’s we headed to Bruno’s. Not the old Bruno’s(Rocco’s now), but the new version. It was marginally better than TJ’s, especially since the DJ could be convinced to play local bounce music. We finally left Bruno’s and lost the more intelligent members of our party. They assumed Snake and Jake’s at 3 or 4 a.m. was not a good idea. They were wrong. Our quintet joined together and sang Bohemian Rhapsody. It was a fitting end to the night. Thanks to everyone who braved these bars to celebrate our dual birthdays. Next year I think we may class it up and hit much fancier places.

Last to show… first to review! Like most UYEs that involve awesome people, this one was super fun. Umm. why am I just now finding out about 2 Dolla Holla at TJ Quills?! Two dollars for everything? Excuse me? Highlights included: Wristbands. Lots of wristbands. Booze being poured into people’s mouth for being on the dance floor. Cupid shuffle. Bohemian Rhapsody. Putting a bunch of plastic things in Scott’s beer. Being out until 4AM with some awesome people. John L.H., Larissa, Scott, Mande, Jen L., Joi… you guys rock. Sorry if I missed you by not showing up earlier, but you should have stayed out later!
