I discovered GOW the summer before I was to leave NOLA for a job in another state. I came into the gym with about a year of traditional Kung Fu training and about half a year of Muay Thai and boxing training. I never left a work-out at GOW without Sifu Spyder teaching me something that would make my fighting game significantly better. Coach Spyder has a really good way of pointing out simple things to improve your skills. There were always beginners there getting 1-on-1 attention from Coach Spyder so beginners are definitely welcome. There were always high level boxers on hand to help you out as well. There are several current title holders who train there so that should be proof enough that this place gets results. From what I understand, Spyder was a world champion San Shou kickboxer as a teenager, having trained in Mantis Kung Fu, before entering the Army as a boxing coach. I would describe this place as a boxers gym first, but they also have champion kickboxers there to help you reach whatever your fighting goals may be. Kickboxers with really good hands are super dangerous and you’ll get good hands here. After I left New Orleans, GOW moved to a new location inside of the Velocity Sports center on S. Carrolton. The rates for the gym membership at the old location were super low for the quality of training provided. I’m not sure what the rates are now, but I believe they are the same unless you also want a membership to Velocity. I think now that they’re housed in a full total body conditioning gym, it would provide new students with a great opportunity to cross train.
