it should be noted that in response to this accurate and truthful review, which i informed fredrick’s deli i was authoring, the owners of fredrick’s deli have had shills come forward with a couple fake reviews attempting to deflect the truth. I reported both fake reviews that sprang up overnight in response to my real review. oddly the fake reviews begin discussing their failed renovation which gutted all the vintage charm and destroyed the atmosphere, rather than discussing the food, like a normal person would. in their desperation to offset the remarkable damage they’ve done to themselves, they will stop at nothing to reverse reality. see jason r’s review below, it’s nearly identical to mine. there’s no denying that fact that fredrick’s deli is no more, and the joke of a place that is now occupying its spot, is horrible for comfort, food quality and service. don’t waste your time on this dump, there are myriad places to get great po-boys in new orleans, and this ain’t one of them. try johnny’s po-boys on decatur and st. louis of you want the real deal po-boy! this place was bought by a couple dopes who destroyed all of its atmosphere, friendly service and quality, the place has lost all of its quaintness and charm, all of it, and the service stinks. they got our order wrong, and there was nobody in the newly ruined place except a couple guys waiting for their food for nearly twenty minutes. we used to come here every single day when in nola, but now we will never ever come here again, it is awful! i expressed my disdain for the horrible disfigurement the new, and oblivious owners, had done to this once fine deli, which is now rotten in every way. they pulled all the vintage quality and ambience from the interior, the food looks terrible, the orders take forever, are poorly prepared and are wrong. this place used to be. packed full at 1pm, and now, it is completely vacant. i told one of the inept oblivious owners my thoughts, brashly, and he was rude and belligerent, saying«wait a week,» to which i responded, «wait a year, you’ll be out of business.» they were kind enough to return our money, although we never even took a single bite out of the order, which they got horribly wrong by putting my order and my wife’s order, together, in a disgusting inedible pile of what looked like dog food with two fried sunny side up eggs splattered atop it, yuck! if they ever do develop a large lunch crowd, which is as likely as them opening a location on the sun next week, they will never, ever be able to accommodate the orders and facilitate delivery of the orders. this pace went from five stars to zero stars, overnight. avoid this place at all cost, it is lousy now, at best! absolutely zero stars!!!

I decided to ignore the most recent review and go ahead and give this place a try. The 6 inch shrimp po boy was about $ 11(a bit expensive for a small sandwich) and not very tasty. Nothing specific, just not a really good po boy.

So bummed. This used to be my go-to place for lunch. Their cheese burger Po-boy was amazing, Ruben Po-boy was amazing, roast beef, shrimp, nearly all their Po-boys were excellent and Mr. Fred was always a pleasure to talk to. On top of that, the prices were hard to beat, especially for what you got. But, unfortunately all great things must eventually come to an end. It appears as if Fredrick’s is under new ownership with new staff and quality has suffered greatly. Yeah, the inside was updated, but now feels more claustrophobic in my opinion. Used to be you’d order, then go grab a drink out the back cooler sit back and wait for your food then pay once you were all down. All that is changed now. Which, what ever, I get it. However, the last couple times I have been there, the staff has been rude and appears to be very disorganized. The burgers are cooked till there is no juice left; the fried food is dark and over fried and the prices have increased. I am very saddened by this because it feels like I have lost a great friend. Maybe I just went on one of their off days, but last three Po-boys were nearly inedible so, for me, this book is closed and I’ll go elsewhere. Take care Fredrick’s, wish you wouldn’t have changed.

As my wife and I prepared to head for the airport to go home, we decided to get something quick(hopefully) for breakfast. The past two days we hadn’t been so lucky getting quick seating at some places, but figured we would take our chances so we didn’t have to rush to eat at the airport(nor pay the overly inflated airport prices). FredRick’s was honestly the first place we saw after walking out of our hotel and(yay!) there was no line! The wife had a breakfast burrito and I grabbed a bacon egg and cheese breakfast po’ boy. Staff was friendly and the food came out quick and was tasty! Not much more to say about it. Well, I guess I could add that I was shocked by how small the breakfast burrito was, but my wife was okay with it, so I guess no complaints.

Solid spot for breakfast. The cook was extremely friendly. They have some tables inside to sit down, or you can do take-out. Pay-as-you-leave.

We had the catfish po-boy. It was delicious! One of the best things I’ve eaten in New Orleans. The guy behind the counter was friendly and authentic and made the atmosphere of the place perfect. He encouraged us to spend an extra dollar to get the larger sandwich and wrapped up half to go. It didn’t make it back to the hotel before we stopped and ate it.

My wife and I visited this place last year when we vacationed in New Orleans, and we fell in love with it right away. On our most recent trip to New Orleans, we ate here for lunch a couple times, and actually came in on our last day to get sandwiches for the plane trip back. The staff is really friendly and the place itself is like a vintage diner. It’s small, quaint, but when it’s busy, they pack a lot of hungry people side-by-side to maximize the limited seating. The seating itself is fun too, with pick-nick style tables that are very comfortable with all the condiments in the center. There is an old fashioned metal, double-sided napkin dispenser on each table too, which is a bit like a comfortable time warp. The perfect location for a Back to the Future type scene. It’s really relaxing. It’s hard to find authentic charm like this anywhere, so we treasure visiting FredRick’s Deli. They have a relatively large menu too, with spectacular Muffelettas and great Po-Boys. I love their Catfish Po-Boy, which makes my wife grimace, she hates Tilapia and Catfish, where I love both. The last time we were there, over the course of several visits, I had their Tuna Salad, Smoked Turkey and Catfish Po-Boys, and all were 11″, and packed with meat, not just garnish like lettuce. They really know how to build a big delicious sandwich here. Their side dishes, like the Red Beans and Rice may seem simple but it’s actually complex and spicy with a homemade quality. Whatever my wife ordered, she loved it. I know she didn’t have Catfish, but I don’t recall what she ate, and she’s sleeping now, so I’m not going to wake her to ask her«what did you order from FredRick’s Deli in NOLA?» I don’t think that would get Friday off on the right foot. Last year I had the Crawfish Pie, a Muffeletta and a Fried Oyster Salad, and all three were fantastic. They serve beer here, but I almost always get a V8 for some reason. They have a large cooler along the back wall with various soft drinks, juices and beers. It is a very comfortable place to grab a bite to eat. It’s in the business district, so it can get very busy around noon, so I recommend going around 2:30pm to miss the lunch rush. Anyway, this place is great, with fast polite service. They even have a little area for gaming, so if you like to gamble before or after breakfast, brunch or lunch, you’ll have found a nice nook to do that, while having access to delectable sandwiches and other treats. I recommend this place since it is an overall 5 for cleanliness, friendly service, fast attentive service, comfortable dining, hard to match coziness, very large well prepared delicious sandwiches and side dishes, quaint atmosphere, and my wife and I have had such great experiences here, as well as eating their delicious sandwiches on the plane trip home. Great fun place, fantastic food.

Let me first start by saying the workers are simply amazing. Very personable and always in good spirits. Quick service also. I’ve been at least 5 times but am always in the mood for the same 2 things. I’m a fan of the hot sausage on bun with cheese dressed with fries and tuna salad on toast. Once the cutting of the toast wasn’t exact so the sandwich fell apart and I had more of a tuna salad(just broke up the bread and put it on a plate lol). It still was good though. I tried the bisque before and wasn’t a huge fan of it. It was okay and I ate it but I wouldn’t get it again. I’ll be back.

Great small, local sandwich joint. Total hole-in-the wall… they kind of have a convenience store feel to it. Proprietors are very friendly! Partner had a club sandwich, I had roast beef. Both were quite good, though the roast beef was a bit tough… This is definitely a local blue collar type of place, and fairly small. The furniture and such are definitely worn, but hey, whatever. I ain’t trippin.

GETTHEOUSTANDINGFRIES! They are some of the best in the CBD and remind me of the crispy creamy ones at Miss Kim’s Quarter Grocery. BUTNOTTHEBURGER; it really pains me to say this about such an old school institution, but it has to be the single worst cheeseburger that I’ve ever eaten. Seriously, it’s vile. The scary meat has no seasoning, and freakishly, it sucks out all the flavor from the pickles, tomatoes, cheese, mynez and ketchup. Also I passed on the muff as it was about a 3:1 ratio of bread to filling. THEOFFSET: the people here couldn’t be nicer, it’s squeaky clean, and cheap. A Cheeseburger, huge serving of fries, and refillable fountain drink totaled just $ 8.50 after tax. However, for a few bucks more, I’d much rather have the outstanding«build your own burger» plus a side at Phil’s Grill for $ 9.75.

This place is easy to miss! It’s a small hole in the wall but the food is AMAZING! The red beans and rice were so good I went there 2 days in a row. The shrip po-boy was delicious, as well as the catfish and roast beef po-boy. More than the delicious, cheap food, the guys working there are super nice! Eat now, pay later. Love that place!

Not bad. Just a blue collar kind of sandwich shop. Lots of choices on the menu. The muffuletta was decent. Not the greatest but good. The drinks are bottled and in a glass cooler. Basically you help yourself to the drink you want. Place is easy on the wallet and much better than the higher cost joints in the tourist areas.
