Our very first stop for new Orleans food was this. Delicious! I can’t even tell you how happy my taste buds were when I had some red beans and rice and fried okra. Mmmmm

We had read the good reviews and also saw an ad posted in a local magazine for Evangeline. Being NOLA veterans, we’d thought we’d give this new place a try. Let me say first in all fairness that it appeared they had a unexpected shortage of servers… On Sunday jan 8th(BCS weekend!). If this were my business I would’ve called in friends, family or whatever it takes to keep it running. It appeared the manager was lost in his crisis, having to serve and bartend and play hostess! We were probably one of about five lost tables that I saw in the hour we were there. I was so hoping it’d be a fantastic experience as I really pull for new businesses in the quarter. Unfortunately, if they don’t get it together, they are not going to make it!

Authentic, delicious Cajun/creole food. Stopped here while wandering the French Quarter for a bite and a drink. We had red beans and rice, creole jambalaya, the Pasta Evangeline and a couple cocktails. Everything was perfect and the service top notch.

We had the Decatur burger and the Blackened Chicken Salad and the fried okra for an appetizer. The burger was great — well done with lots of flavor. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The chicken in the salad was great — also seasoned very well — but the greens were just plain iceberg lettuce and didn’t compliment the chicken at all unfortunately. I also took off a star for awful service. Our server completely forgot to bring us our food and the appetizer«got lost» and was brought out at the end of our meal. I’m not sure if it was his first day but the server clearly was confused the whole time.

Good causal vibe in the patio! Great for romance or a small group. Patio-5 stars Food-3.5 stars Overall-4. Food was good and elegant. Not your local fried joint. More delicate in offerings Very flavorful. Would come back for an evening with the finance anytime!

Happy hour. Quiet evening. Seated at the bar which turned out to be a bad decision. Already at the bar was someone who seemed intent on running down his list of bars he’s worked at or considering with our barman. Difficult to ignore when he was speaking loudly. That set the tone. Service was OK although I had to order something else since they had no cucumber for Pimms Cup. So Moscow Mule it is. Delicious! For munchies: fried okra served with their home made remoulade sauce. Good and not greasy at all. Delicious with sauce.

Evangeline was nearly one of the hand full of restaurants that my Darling and I exited in haste. The ambience is picturesque with the dark woods and lovely gas light lanterns. We have walked past this restaurant for years on our way to Coops or other local friendly establishments, but instead took a gamble. The beer selection was nice, I had the Nola Blonde. always a sure bet, but the beer’s prices led me to wonder if a puritanical force had priced them to disincentive the drinker of said spirits. The appetizer was the crab cakes, which left much to be desired. The crab cake was mushy and filled with shells. Now, as an avid consumer of gulf seafood, I understand that the occasionally gritty oyster, or even bits of shell comes with the territory. In the end we only ate less than half of the plate. When the waiter saw the boneyard of shells he promptly, without us asking, removed it from the check. As noted, the service was spotty. I well say that the saving grace, after we had been over looked for a much larger party, and after the 45 plus minutes waiting for a salad and grits(we seemed to have been forgotten about), was the crawfish and grits. It was creamy and full of flavor. My Darling’s salad has a chicken prepared with the appropriate amount of spice and made me wish we had just ordered this to go and ate outside the restaurant in the rain. Now I will admit that while I may not frequent Evangline’s in the future, I may try to persuade them to leave a to go of this crawfish grits outside for me to eat in the alley like an aptly named feline.

Came to New Orleans for a conference and walked over from the hotel. It was OK. So that’s the three star status. The food was pretty good(we split the crawfish and grits). The grits were actually decent but I would expect that from a relatively nice place in downtown area. Skip the salad, although I was mercilessly made fun of for even ordering it. Expensive and literally consisted of a few pieces of iceberg lettuce and some slices of tomato and onion. Yes I realize we are in the south but I think that a quick read through of or light search on google could inform any chef of some decent ideas of how to make a salad. In general, I thought it was kind of overpriced for what you get. And I’m from Southern California where we basically invented overpriced. Service was great and lovely outdoor setting so that’s a positive.

Good food but lousy ambiance. Positive is good NO food. Not high end but good quality. Negative was a very unpleasant noisy place. They have tv screens and their was an Lsu game so lots of yelling from drunk viewers to the point that our ears hurt and we could not talk. Could not wait to leave. One was so drunk his chair fell over with a loud clatter. Management did nothing about it. Coffee was cold and bad. Over all I will never return. Too many good options to have your night out ruined. Note to management: you should try to protect your patrons from a drunken yelling match. It’s a nice place, you should tak out the tvs or turn them off of people get too loud at dinner.

Holy cow I loved this place! My sister and I ran into this place by accident– Ok maybe not by accident, I totally Unilocaled my way there– and I am so happy we found it! It was by far the best meal I had when I was in New Orleans! So delicious! I had the Acadian Crawfish & Grits and I literally couldn’t stop eating it! I wish I could make this at home! My sister got the Red Beans and Rice and they were great. Lots of flavor and a generous portion. I tried a couple of the local beers and they were great too. Service was friendly and attentive. I can’t wait to come back to New Orleans, so I can stop by here again.

Late lunch prior to wedding later in the evening. Very good ambience. Lot of LSU fans. Perfect place for a snack after the Audubon aquarium. Decided to split appetizer and sandwich. Ordered red beans and rice which turned out spiced just like we like it. Next ordered shrimp poboy. Bread was out of this world delicious. Shrimp plentiful and breaded well. I would have preferred a little spicier. Severice excellent. Will return.

So good, we had to stop by twice. In a city known for its hospitality(among other things), Evangeline stands out as one of the friendliest, most inviting cocktail bars we stumbled upon during our recent visit to New Orleans. We needed to kill some time before the burlesque show at the House of Blues, so we stopped in for a quick drink. I can’t say enough about our bartender, Adam. He knows how to take care of his customers and make everyone feel at home. He chatted us up while mixing some amazing cocktails & shooters and entertained us until it was time to head to the show. Adam is the quintessential host; both a man’s man and a charmer with the ladies. Super handsome, too. What’s not to like? The food looked amazing, although the only thing we tried besides the copious drinks were the sweet potato fries. They were delish. The courtyard looked adorable, but like I said, we were so entertained at the bar there was no need to sit anywhere else. The other bar patrons were also easy to talk to(probably because Adam knows how to set the tone), so the whole experience was really relaxed and fun. When we stopped by a second time the following night, I got a tour of the kitchen and met the chef. Hell yeah, that was pretty cool. More drinks, more hospitality, more good times. During our next visit to New Orleans, we’ll definitely check out the full menu and enjoy a few more delicious beverages at Evangeline. You should, too.

I stopped by Evangeline on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner. Hoowee! Evangeline’s crawfish ‘n’ grits is amazin’ y’all! And that handsome bartender Adam makes an excellent Sazerac. *rowr* As I understand it, on Saturdays they’ve got some good jazz to go with your meal, too. Kick back, relax, and enjoy some good ol’ Southern hospitality at Evangeline!

We had a lovely meal here tonight. Took our 2 children around 7pm and had no wait for a great seat on the patio. Crab cake appetizer was just right. I ordered crawfish étouffée. Husband got crawfish and grits. Both girls got chicken fingers and fries off the unwritten kids menu. They were very good hand breaded chicken strips — not frozen. My étouffée was a little too spicy for my taste so my husband offered to switch with me. We both loved what we ended up with. We had an appetizer, 3 cocktails, and 4 entrees for less than $ 100 before tip. We loved the relaxed, quiet vibe. The staff was friendly, but not over bearing. Exactly what we were looking for tonight — didn’t have to worry about the kids offending other diners, yet had a top notch meal. We would eat here again for sure.

I love Unilocal for guiding me to this restaurant. The food is beyond amazing and the service is five star as well. I had the crawfish and grits(which was above and beyond anything I’ve tasted) my husband had the pulled pork sandwich which was marinated to perfection(and it wasn’t too sweet-which is great). We started with the sausage sampler(amazing). Small restaurant space, Big Flavor. Will be recommending this place to many

Enjoyed my first blackened Bologna sandwich. It had red onion, Creole mustard, Krystal mayo, cheese, pickles and jalapenos with a side of fries(well done, yum). Bartender Adam made the whole experience very fun and educating. My husband had the catfish jumbalaya. He loved it!

We went here for lunch during our trip to New Orleans. It was simply delicious! They had a special melon punch that was made that day… it was amazing! The fried okra was great. My friends had the fried oysters and raved about them. All of our entrees were sizeable and we all took home leftovers. The desert was okay, but a small portion. I will definitely visit this restaurant again.

Loved the food and the drink special they had. Nice atmosphere but casual dress is ok. I had the crawfish étouffée which was full of crawfish. I also recommend their fried oysters and okra appetizers. Would return on my next trip to NOLA.

Came to New Orleans for the Carnival cruise and stayed an extra day downtown. Found Evangeline on Unilocal and glad we did. It was 2 blocks from our hotel and 9 of us were able to make a dinner reservation. I’m not big on seafood, so I got the chicken creole jambalaya. It was very tasty. My husband got the seafood platter and was pleased too. They accommodated our kids picky tastes by serving chicken strips and buttered spaghetti. No complaints. The restaurant was quiet on Sunday evening, so service was quick. Jesse was our waitress and super friendly. I would recommend Evangeline to those looking for a quiet place with good taste.

This is a lovely place. Friendly staff that welcome you as you enter the semi dark venue. The Jazz playing is subdued which adds to the relaxed ambiance. The local craft beer selection is impressive. I had a lovely wheat beer and he had NOLA Hopitoulas IPA. Very nice. The food was fantastic. It was exactly what I was looking for. I’m not here to eat Thai food etc, I want the southern food. We had Louisiana bacon wrapped shrimp and also crawfish and grits. It was fantastic! Highly recommended.
