Excellent soul food. The drum was incredible as were the fried green tomatoes. Four stars because we kind of lost the attention of our server half way through the meal.

Delicious food and wine. Also have a Gluten Free menu. As we have a Celiac family member we rang ahead. We had fantastic service and constant reassurance from wait staff and management that the Chef was doing everything avoid cross contamination. A bit of a drive form the French Quarter where we were staying but well worth it. Highly recommended.

Had reservations for over a month for New Years’. Anticipated a knock-your-socks off experience. Not sure that happened but we enjoyed a nice meal. The food is very good as many reviews indicate. Atmosphere is cool and southern-Cajun with right touch of New Orleans flair. Attentive service, decent wine list. My drum fish was outstanding. Everyone else tried something different and pronounced it delish. On the whole, better than most and certainly not a touristy stop but rather a local favorite worth a try!

What a great little place! This was the best meal that we had all week. We started with a sampler platter of appetizers that included the corn-fried oysters, crawfish and andouille savory cheesecake, and fried green tomatoes. Everything was fantastic. I had a duck confit special which was very good and my husband had the Black Drum(local fish) which was even better. We finished with a piece of bread pudding. The restaurant is in an old building and is decorated in a «rustic chic» style. Our server was very nice, helpful, and professional.

I’d heard so much about this restaurant that I had to try it. Loved the ambiance and the service was great, but the food wasn’t the best considering it’s in New Orleans. We started with some appetizers, the oysters were a little rubbery, but the cornbread(served complimentary) was the one thing we all walked away raving about! I had the Bouillabaisse and it was OK, not special and a little bland. My BF had the steak — it was just OK, our friend had the Pork Chop and said it was really nice. He liked the way they served it on the rarer side and said it was tasty, but he’s from LA so I’m much his input’s worth… ;) All in all a great spot and I’d go back if invited, but on the whole not one of the strongest dinner choices in New Orleans for the prices. Our server was kind and brought me a stuffed mirliton when I was sad that it was only on the Reveillion menu. Loved the staff here — all spoke to us as we left and made us feel welcome.

Amazing is the only word I can use to describe the experience. I ended up sitting at the bar and the bartender helped me navigate the menu. The food was top notch and a great value.

This restaurant had me consistently saying«Wow!» The atmosphere is both hip and southern! The staff are friendly food lovers with great personalities! They bring amazing cornbread to the table when you sit down. We tried the Crab Cheesecake, which made me a savory cheesecake convert! The grilled oysters will change your life. Then I ordered the duck; duck is my absolute favorite dish to order when dining out. I’ve had it all over the world, so it’s very exciting to say the duck at Dick and Jennie’s is top 5! It has a mild smokey flavor with a spicy-sweet finish. It if cooked a perfect medium rare and the skin is rendered crisp. If you love modern food, this place is a must try!

We had dinner here on Friday night. Across the board, we were very happy. The food was excellent — expertly prepared and presented. I wouldn’t call it quite superlative, but I’m sure not complaining either. I started with the gumbo and had a sautéd redfish as my main. We also had some bread pudding for dessert. The ambiance was cozy. It’s in an older building with gobs of charm. D&J’s is over on Tchoupitoulas, roughly halfway through the Garden District, and almost along the river. Certainly not in one of the main touristy areas, but that’s OK. The prices were also quite fair. If you’re looking for excellent food in a comfy setting that’s a bit off the beaten path, give D&J’s a try. We made our reservation using OpenTable, and that worked out great. Why not 5 stars? When I compare them with our other experiences here in NOLA, like Commander’s and Cochon, they’re one small notch down in quality terms, if you ask me. Still excellent, but not quite at the top. But don’t let that stop you from having a fun experience away from the tourist hot spots.

Really impressed! I tried the Ginger Minx cocktail, a nice, grapefruit Vodka cocktail with candied ginger on the side… very cool. I had the trio appetizer with the fried oysters, fried green tomatoes, and seafood cheesecake. The oysters and tomatoes were both lightly corn-fried, great flavor and not too heavy, and the cheesecake was as incredible as the other reviews claimed! The duck was absolutely perfect and the fried bread pudding was the perfect close to the meal. I would absolutely eat here again, frequently, possibly all the time…

Overall a disappointment. The bouillabaisse was just ok. A little chloriny tasting. The duck was overcooked. Special appetizer was a crawfish cheese egg thing that was sort of like a quiche. It was good — not great. Crust was a little pasty instead of crisp.

After being badgered by the reservation process we arrived feeling a bit apprehensive. When reserving through Open Table you are warned that if you cancel within 24 hours of your reserved dining time you will be charged $ 25 a person as a penalty. Then you receive another warning in red(!) two days before your reservation instructing you to call immediately if you’re going to cancel. And again the day of your reservation you get a call from the restaurant telling you to call right away to confirm you’d be going there for dinner. Just a bit heavy handed and very unwelcoming. Felt like we’d reserved a seat at the Queen’s table. Anyway, we arrived a few minutes early to find their second, entry-way dining room empty at 8PM but their front one almost full. It’s a lively atmosphere and very noisy. Our wait staff was friendly and prompt but she did not go over the posted chalk-boarded specials with us. Two of us ordered the charbroiled oysters which had a lovely rich tomato sauce instead of the traditional buttery, garlic sauce. We dove in and discovered that most of the oysters were about the size of an pecan! So disappointing. We complained to the server who gave no apology or explanation for the tiny sizes. The third person in our party had the roasted beet salad with shredded Brussels sprouts that was bland. Next some of us had the fried green tomatoes with fresh crab meat and were delighted. They had the perfect crunchy crust on the moist tomato, a zingy sauce and lovely crabmeat. However, the Lamb Ragout on pasta was more of a stew on pasta that was a bit overcooked. We moved onto a perfect crème brulee for dessert and while we finished up the meal and the dining room quieted down as tables emptied the manager came to the table to talk to us about the small oysters. He had no excuse or reason for their size stating that there was no way to know what size the oysters were until the shells were open. He said he’d speak to the purveyor the restaurant bought from. After being made to feel like we were being threatened in order for us to keep the reservation, the food and ambiance was not enough to encourage us to return to Dick and Jenny’s.

Great service. Attentive without being too«in your face». Started with a dozen chargrilled oysters… very tasty, although a tad on the small side. We shared: shrimp and grits, roasted beet salad, and gumbo. Today’s gumbo was smoked chicken and andouille. The hubs has been jonesing for gumbo for 3 days, and this made him really happy. A lighter roux than what I personally make, but very lovely. The grits had a touch of aged cheese in them, nicely subtle; the shrimp were large and head-on with a seriously yummy sauce. I really liked the beet salad… chopped cabbage with feta(?) and candied pecans, lightly dressed. The beets were arranged on the outside. The hubs wasn’t so sure, but I liked it. No dessert, but there was a nice wine list(we had a Txakolina). All-in-all, a really good surprise.

Was really looking forward to D&J’s. Have heard great things for several years. Maybe I got the wrong dish(fried green tomatoes with crab) but my friend wasn’t impressed with her steak either. That being said, our other friend loved her soup and entrée. Dessert was nothing special(flourless chocolate cake). I’d try one more time, but I had much better food at the more casual/cheaper places in NOLA.

Such a delightful neighborhood find off the beaten path! 2 different friends familiar with the area recommended this place as a break from the Quarter and we were delighted with superb service and what felt like a home cooked meal. Best cornbread I’ve had.

Disappointing experience this evening on my first visit. Not long after getting seated for a reservation, things went downhill fast with terribly slow and awkward service. It was clear, the staff was overwhelmed with a full house and couldn’t keep up. Our drink orders weren’t taken for over 10 minutes. We just sat and waited. We ordered appetizers, some salads and entrees. One guest didn’t get his wine until his entrée came out, but some of us did? Why? Something was wrong when at almost 90 minutes sitting down, we still had no entrees, nor two other tables near us. No apologies from the staff, just an explanation they had a «big party» to take care of. The food was largely bland. Fried green tomatoes lacked character and not seasoned. Beet salad was severely underdressed and the meager portion of beets overwhelmed. My entrée of Drum was cooked nicely, but again was bland and I found myself reaching for the salt shaker which I can’t remember doing one time in 5 days in New Orleans. One of our guests got the wrong entrée, but dare not send it back for another delay. Another guest who ordered duck, said all he tasted was«smoke», equally disappointed. Considering all the great food I had during my visit, 2 stars is the best this place gets between the bland food and clumsy service.

It’s Tchoupitoulas location doesn’t seem like much, but this doesn’t define the place. Come here, sit down in the newly renovated dining room, and take an edge off. This is one definition of New Orleans. The oysters are plump, the fried green tomatoes are savory, and stuffed pork chop is heaven. They showcase a nice wine list and a craft beer section, too. Take all the time you want because they’ll call a cab for you. Enjoy! Overall: 4.3 /A

My review may be a little biased. I’m not sure. I went to Dick and Jenny’s with my wife, at the time I had a cold. Therefore, my taste buds were a bit impaired due to the limited smell, but I can tell you for sure that I could taste the basic, and savory flavors of everything I ate. I had the soup of the day which was file gumbo with chicken and andouille sausage, flounder with sliced asparagus and mushroom risotto, and a lemon tart(don’t exactly remember the name). My wife had the soup of the day which was cauliflower and leek soup, quail, and shared the lemon tart with me. I must say that everything was excellent from the food to the service. If I had some things to complain about… I found the portion size for my flounder was rather small. I feel like I only had maybe 2 – 3 ounces of fish on my place, they were really thin, and because of that I feel that the fish was overpriced. I ended up finishing my entrée 15 minutes before my wife was finished her quail, and usually I’m the extremely slow eater. Further, the lemon was very tart, the meringue did not do much to offset the tartness which at some point I had to stop eating because it was making my throat feel raw. I encouraged my wife to finish it. Other than that, I loved my risotto, it was full of buttery goodness I wish it never ended, my chicken and andouille was also very good, savory, and would be perfect for cold weather eating. My flounder was cooked perfectly, and the sliced asparagus was perfect as well. The asparagus was still bright green and slightly crisp, but crisp in the sense that it was fully cooked and not raw, and not a bit soggy — a trait I disappointedly tend to find a lot of nola restaurants impart on the way they cook their greens. Thank god for the bread and butter, soup, and my dessert, or else I would definitely have still been very hungry if I had just eaten my entrée. Nonetheless, I am very glad I finally made my way to Dick & Jenny’s, especially since I had been living in walking distance to it for the past couple of years. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for classic New Orleans dishes cooked excellently to come here.

Went here with a group of friends for dinner on a Friday night. Dinner was just okay. It was also pretty empty for a Friday, but I think that might’ve just been because we sat in the back room. The savory cheesecake here is MUCH better than Jacques-Imo’s. However, it’s still super rich, so I would recommend ordering it as an appetizer to share. I also split the mussels appetizer which tasted okay, but had a very strong seafood smell, almost to the point of overwhelming. For my entrée, I had the short ribs with black-eyed peas. They flavor was good, but the ribs themselves were a little dry. Service was great and the waiter was very accommodating, especially in splitting our checks! Ambiance is best described as rustic and casual, but people were in both dresses and jeans. Prices are on par with other New Orleans restaurants(avg $ 25/entrée). I’m glad that I got to try this place once, but probably won’t be returning.

Nice service that was extra accommodating. Food was prepared simple with cheap cuts which makes me wonder why it is so pricey. In all it was a nice experience that I will leave at only once. There are better options in the surrounding area with better prepared food at a lower price.

Ok y’all, my friends know that I celebrate my birthday for as long as people want to take me out and this year it’s been about three months now I’ve been celebrating! I state this to say that this joint has been by far one of my favorite bday celebrations! My cousin and her friends took me here for my birthday and she had a reservation. Thank goodness she did bc I am always running late and this place was packed! Apparently there was a Tulane graduation that same Saturday night as we could see when one graduate kept their robes on in spite of the warm weather outside. Hey, you earned that degree lady so rock it! Well, we started with this amazing assortment of bread that came out but what stood out to me was the delicious cornbread. It was warm, buttery and just melted in my mouth! I kept asking for more of it! Our waiter Phillip was attentive and when we couldn’t decide what appetizer to get he suggested something off the menu which was a sampler. We had fried green tomatoes, fried oysters and the I quiche/cheesecake which was delicious! I kid you not we cleaned that plate, garnish and all! One of my friends ordered the gumbo and judging by her silence and the speed in which she devoured the dish I can surmise that she loved it! We didn’t even get a chance to ask her to try it. Hehe My cousin and her friend ordered the steak and I kid you not this thing was huge! My cousin ended up having leftovers for the next day. My other friend ordered a pasta dish and it was rich, creamy and delicious. I believe it had lobster in it. As for me, I went for the duck. I gotta tell ya, this place does not skimp on portions! The duck was the size of my head and I had enough leftovers to eat for two days afterwards! And it was so tender too, just falling off the bone. And I asked to speak to the manager, Abraham to tell him what a great job Phillip did he treated me to a dessert since it was my birthday! How nice is that! My friends and I decided on the crème brûlée and let me tell you it was divine. This was an amazing fine dining experience with delicious food, great service and the best company! I enjoyed sitting in the back of the house(where you first walk in) bc it’s brighter and louder. The front seems more formal and is darker. Perhaps that is better for a more intimate setting but if you know me I have a hearty laugh so the back is the best place for me! If you ever want to treat a dining companion then let me know bc I’m down! Oh and try even had a table outdoors too! Happy fine dining!
