Where to begin… Between the one of a kind drinks, the ever surrounding feeling of love, community, positive change changed vibrations, this is a place I highly recommend everyone EXPERIENCE for themeselves. This is a one of a kind place. It is a coffee house, a book store, a galllery, a thrift store, a school, a study, a hangout, a lounge. If you are in the New Orleans area come by and I guarantee you will leave a better person.

The most welcoming, inviting place. The owner really takes pride in his business. Soul Salmon was delicious. They have Buttermilk drops & bean pies. All house teas are a must try! Great market in back with one of a kind pieces for sale. Beautiful art work & an awesome book collection. Great place to have good coffee or tea & good conversation or just sit and read while enjoying any of the house specials. I will be back for the Algiers jerk chicken.

Their Sunday vegan brunch is amazing! A lot of vegan spots rely on meat substitues, but not here. Everything is fresh and REAL and so flavorful! The ambiance is great too. I also love the back area where they have handcrafted jewelry, body care, clothing, and other items from local Black artists.

Go check out their brunch on Sunday’s! Best thing smokin for $ 15 bucks We go here a few Sunday’s out the month. They always have a sweet potato pancake topped with fruit. The other courses vary. Good sized portions for what you pay. I love supporting black owned business. This place feels like leaders from the past would approve. They also have opened up a store in the back where you can get local goods. Jewelry, clothes, I think shea butter.

So many good things to be said about this place. The vegan brunch is what originally sparked my interest in the place. It took me a few tried to make it to Algiers during brunch hours because of other things I had going on but once I had a meal there I knew I had to plan my Sunday almost around making it there. The brunch is vegan and contained an array of courses. It started with their famous sweet potato pancakes that actually had visible pieces of sweet potato in it. Usually there is a salad in between the pancake and the main course. There is also a dessert to finish off the meal. The food isn’t the best part about this place though, the ambience is amazing as well. You get the feel of being at home with your family enjoying a meal. Every time I’ve gone they have also had some form of entertainment too. An educational movie and live performances have happened while I ate there. If you ever have the chance to get«across the river» to Algiers point on a Sunday morning make sure to stop by and enjoy brunch.

I’ve never felt so comfortable at a café before. The owner is amazing and full of wisdom– which he’s open to sharing. Great juices and sandwiches.

Very Afro-Centric establishment with poetry readings to help give back to the community. Poetry is very important for our youth to have a positive outlet and this place provides an open mic night for them to express their feelings. This place also has the best sammiches I’ve ever had! They also serve coffee but I never got around to trying it. I know the owner personally and he is a man with a big heart!

Randomly wandered in out of the rain. The owner was incredibly friendly, he was teaching his kids how to play dominoes on a quiet weekday afternoon. I had a delicious homemade doughnut and a nice Jamaican ginger beer. Recommended.

This hidden treasure is the cultural jewel of the westbank. In a sea of monotony that is Algiers. This one lone coffee shop breaks the mold of your usual starbucks java latte. When walking in, you are greeted with a powerful right fist high and common statement of «Welcome Black Home.» Even if you are slightly lighter. This location is sure to bathe your muse in the warmth of Mother Africa. While sitting an enjoying the space itself, they provide the most wonderful playlist of social conscious an eclectic music ranging from Hip-Hop Jazz to Soulful R&B. Armed with there delicious home grown menu(I suggest the Jerk Chicken Sandwich) an beautiful spirits, this place is sure to have coming back for more an more.
