Their phở lacked flavor, their bun bo hue resembles bo kho, their banh cuon wasn’t fresh and their thit nuong didn’t taste like thit nuong. Oh and they forget to give you your veggies for your phở and your drinks for your food. The only thing that tasted«normal» was the bun rieu, but they forget to give you veggies for that also. Vietnamese restaurants are rarely known for their great customer service, but their food usually makes up for it… that didn’t happen here.

had the phở which was ok, spring rolls which were better and the fried egg rolls which were home made and Excellent. Only wish I didnt have to pay extra for lettuce wraps and that the nun mam was more flavorful. The restaurant is HUGE to the point where you feel you are sitting in an empty building even if there are a few diners there with you. The shopping strip where it is located seems a bit run down and barren but being able to find an open phở restaurant after five over here made this place hit the spot.

Just had lunch there with my friends. The only reason why I come back here is because of their banh cuon thit nuong. Today we decided to try the Com Gia Dinh. We ordered Canh Chua Tom, Ca Kho To, Thit Kho Dau Hu and Ga Xao Xa Ot. The Ca Kho To was extremely chewy and smelled terrible. When we tried to send it back in exchange for something else, we were told that it wasn’t possible because the dish has already been made. Uhhh, I understand that but it’s not edible! The owner has no concept of customer service!

Their food is okay, not particularly food, but not bad either. But the lady owner doesn’t have any sense of what customer service is, better to never consider having ur wedding reception here if you dont want her to snap you about the electricity usage or damaging the floor. Horrible experience. Would not recommend anyone here.

Ba Mien is located in the heart of the New Orleans Viet community – Village de l’Est – and it’s a superb restaurant. I was particularly enthralled by the ca phe sua da – Vietnamese ice coffee, replete with chicory-flavored grounds and condensed milk. The phở dac biet was generously meaty and the broth easily elevated by a dash of Hoisin and Sriracha – the Vietnamese answer to PB&J as far as famous pairings go. Spacious and expedient, well-decorated and clean, Ba Mien is a must should you find yourself on Chef Highway. Be sure to drive around the area after your assuredly delectable meal. It feels like Vietnam here. Between the lilypad covered rivers and the proud yellow flag with three red stripes. Love this place! Standby.

As you first walk into Ba Mien, you’ll hear the light wooden wind chimes as the door opens and closes. Nestled right next to a 99 cent market at which I frequently shop, this place is one of the best authentic Vietnamese cuisine restaurants I’ve been to. Some people may argue that the dishes are superior in comparison to Duong Phuong, however the portions in terms of the phở and mei wonton are a bit less. With that in mind, Duong Phuong has the upper hand when it comes to dishes. On days that Duong Phuong is completely packed, Ba Mien is the best place to go due to the spacious atmosphere as well as television sets on both ends for viewer entertainment as the food is brought out. Granted, Duong Phuong installed television sets as well, Ba Mien is a much larger restaurant, and for that, it’s much more of a less cramped place to be. The food isn’t any less authentic, and I must say that it’s highly recommended that you try this place if you’re ever in New Orleans east and have some spare time on your hands.

I have not actually had their regular menu items here. But I did booked Ba Mien for my wedding venue. The food was prepared and presented quite nicely. I had a seven course meal for my guests, of about 235. Before I booked the restaurant, my at-the-time-fiancé, my parents, my sister, my two cousins, and my aunt went to have a taste testing of their food. I had contacted the owner, Mrs. Mai(I call her Co Mai, proper Vietnamese etiquette) in advanced about what I had in mind as appetizers, entrees, and dessert. She was able to prepare everything except one appetizer(which I eventually cut off my list) and the dessert. The taste testing is usually not free(could cost $ 300-$ 500), unless you book them as your caterers. There were 8 of us tasting 6 dishes, which were suppose to be enough for 10 guests and it was definitely enough for 10 guest, because we were full and had plenty of leftovers to bring home for my brothers to try. I ended up deciding to book the restaurant and getting all the food that we tried. All we had to do was make a down payment and pay on the day of the wedding. The restaurant supplied plates, bowls, fabric napkin, cutlery, silverware, clear plastic cups and plastic champagne glasses. I really do enjoy Ba Mien’s services. Catering is usually different from what they have at the restaurant. Ba Mien even has a website and a link to their catering menu and restaurant menu.

Bad food but expensive compared to other restaurants in the area. They do not know how to cook hot pot at all. Taste really bad

Ok for a quick Chinese/Vietnamese lunch. If you want phở you’re better off going down the road to Phở Bang. They do your standard Chinese lunch specials that are good for the price(Lo Mein, fried rice, etc.). My personal favorite is the shrimp in lobster sauce.

After leaving this horrible restaurant down the street, I had to get my Asian fix. When I first got to New Orleans I was reading reviews about this place and was stoked about trying their Banh Cuon Thit Nuong. Well I thought it was decent not anything to go crazy for, but it did satisfy my Asian cravings. I would definitely come back here to try something new. The place overall is very spacey and clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, and there’s a big variety of food on the menu.

Found this place stashed away in a little shopping mall deep down on Chef. I was frequenting this spot on an average of 3 – 4 times a week at one point. Why? Because they have the best Bubble Tea… ever. My favorite is either the mango alone, or a mango pineapple combo. The lemon grass pork chops and vermicelli is pretty darn tasty here too. The entrees are much better than the phở, since the phở’s broth is kind of bland, but they make up for it with the excellent entrees they have on deck. The inside is very spacey, so it’s absolutely good for groups. Went here with about 13 people at one point, so they definitely have the space. This place also has a pan asian part of the menu. I tried one of the Chinese dishes, and they didn’t really bring it the same way they capitalized on the Vietnamese dishes. the menu is extensive enough to always keep you satisfied.

Crazy fresh and delicious, this is one of my favorite places to eat in New Orleans. They DO have tofu vermicelli bowls even though they are not on the menu– just ask. My carnivore coworkers rave about the pork spring rolls and the phở with tripe. For the Road Warriors: AMEX accepted?: No In and Out in Under 60?: Yes, but you may need to head up to the counter to pay

I attended a wedding reception this past weekend at the BM Reception Hall right next to Ba Mien Restaurant. The inside of the building was beeeautifully decorated! There was a staircase in the back, white curtains and pillars all around the room, a glowing bar, a wood dance floor in the middle, and a stage for speakers/performers. The whole room just looked elegant! I assume the food was catered by Ba Mien Restaurant for the reception. We had a 9(yes, 9!!) course meal and there was definitely some good eating that night! It was a Vietnamese wedding so we had traditional Vietnamese courses(family style) including sweet rice with Vietnamese ham; mushrooms, asparagus, and quail eggs with crabmeat soup; house special delight salad; roasted quail, crab claws, and fried calamari; beef with grilled asparagus; sauteed lobster with ginger and green onions; baked salmon with stuffed crabmeat; special combination fried rice; and thai dessert. I’ll admit, I was way too full to try all of the dishes but my favorites were the soup, house special delight salad, and thai dessert!

When I go to Vietnamese restaurants, I can’t help but only look at the choices of phở, so please excuse this reviews lack of variety. Their menu includes all the basics: brisket, eye round steak, flank, tripe, tendon, etc. My favorite is the Eye round with the well-done brisket(Phở tai chin), so I ordered that one(of course). The phở was very hot and had all the proper accoutrements. The broth was a tad bit bland, but that was easily fixed with an extra squeeze or two of sriracha. My only beef with the phở was the brisket(get it? beef?!). It was a little fatty for my taste, so I ended up fishing most of it out. While my phở go-to is still Phở Danh #4 on the West Bank, Ba Mien is a fine alternative if your cruising through New Orleans East. Try it and see what you think!

This place is called Ba Mien — or «Three Regions» in Vietnamese. With a name like that, I’d expected their menu to feature distinct dishes from each of Vietnam’s North, Central, and Southern regions. No such luck — the menu pretty much reads like a standard Vietnamese restaurant menu, organizing their food instead under the headings of phở, noodles, rice plates, and the like. To be sure, there is lots of variety to be had and certain dishes are advertised as prepared the way of a certain region, but I was expecting more. Price-wise this place is reasonable. Taste-wise I’ve certainly had better Vietnamese food in places like California or Texas, but discounting for the lack of selection available in Louisiana, I’d say the food is good enough(though maybe a bit salty). I’d come back to try some more items on the menu, but I have to say that Dong Phuong, just a few miles up the road is probably the better Vietnamese restaurant in terms of taste, if not selection.

yay for steamed pork rolls and fresh phở! :D I waited until I went there another three times before I updated on Unilocal again. I was satisfied each time. **Inconsistent! My noodles were congealed. :(**

I hate the phở ga because when I ordered — it tasted nasty. Recently I returned for a family style dinner with dining buddy. So we had sweet and sour fish soup(big bowl huge), carmelized fish, and my favorite was the salad. The portions were big except for the carmelized fish pot. I love me some carmelized fish with my sweet and sour soup but the fact that they didnt give enough fish for the price they charged I had to take away stars. Gimme mah fish yo. The soup broth was great and the goi(salad) was a great mix of lotus stem, sliced cucumbers, carrots, shrimp and pork. Big plate of this enough to share with 2 – 3 other people depending on what pigs your dining partners are. Mines wasnt much of it so it look like no one touched the soup. The soup was an excellend mix of sweet and sour. Yums. Im just bummed the ca kho to(carmelized fish) was small portion. At any rate, the food was good. They suck for closing at 7pm. Next door is their reception hall which looks like it’s in the middle of renovation. They do catering so if you are having a party and want goi but dont want to slice all those damn vegs order from here. Great for large parties, sometimes they take forever to bring you a menu but be cool and not a fool. Kids, families, and they now take credit cards thank the lawd. Parking is located on the lot where they are located shared with other retailors. Ghetto ass lot adjacent to VAYLA, 99 Supermarket, poboy place and a laundromat.

hearty portions for cheap. i walked in with a pretty large group and we were all taking our food to go. the place itself is very spacious and clean, with two plasma screen televisions showing vietnamese variety shows. the head of mary queen of vietnam church in new orleans told me i had to try the steamed rolls with grilled pork appetizer, so i got that along with the steamed rolls with minced pork(please see photos!). both were very very yummy. the grilled pork was chopped and paired with cilantro, and it came with a savory creamy yellow sauce. the second appetizer couldn’t even be appropriately called a «roll». at the bottom of the to-go container was a salad with tomato and cucumber slices, as well as bean sprouts. on top of the salad were strips of steamed wide rice noodles. minced pork and green onions were sprinkled on top of the noodles. a tangy red vinaigrette accompanied the dish. though it was absolutely delicious, there wasn’t nearly enough pork. it merely served as an afterthought. sad. finally, my friend got the deluxe phở and while the veggies were fresh, the noodles perfectly cooked, and the broth maintained its temperature in the car ride and to our final destination, the *rare* pieces of beef were a bit TOO rare. as in they were raw. no thanks.
