4* for being open late and having vegan options. 2* for the food. It is just bad bar food; good if you are in a pinch, but not worth traveling for.

Wow just realized I have never written a review for 13. This has been one of my go-to spots for years. Why you ask? Because of their vegetarian friendly menu. I am still missing their black bean burger they removed off the menu SOOOPLEEAAZZBRINNGGITBACKK! My back up sammy is the herb tofu sandwich and what goes better with that than a crispy order of TOTZ. Mmm. Mm. The food here is always good. And they are open late for ur drunkin munchies too. The service on the other hand is usually… well…disinterested to put it nicely. Luckily I generally come for lunch when it’s not overly busy. But there is always only a bartender and a cook on staff to run the whole place. So if this place is hoppin expect to wait for everything. That’s why I try to sit at the bar where you can get the attention you need or at least SHOUT it out. Come for good food at a local Frenchmen establishment. And just deal with the service. it’s generally not very good.

One word: tachos. I’ve made it my mission to come here as close to every night when I’m in NoLa. Tachos are the closest I’ve come to a religious experience.(Two nights ago, we got 2x each kind for a group of 6… And finished them all.). Trust me and try this place. Borrachos are my favorite.

Server rang up an order of Tachos with JUST vegan chili on top as $ 7.75. The Tachos with EVERY topping they offer are $ 6.50. He refused to adjust my check accordingly when I mentioned this. I guess this guy doesn’t work for tips or understand that he wanted me to literally throw away $ 1.25 because of his mistake. I also watched a woman preparing food get noticeably angry because someone sent their sandwich back to be fixed and, I’m not exaggerating, slam it back onto their table and shake her head as she walked away. These punks here are a joke. You want to question authority? Well you can also question the $ 0 tip your punk ass got.

Just okay… The menu online didn’t exactly match the menu in house, but a friend and I managed to get a decent snack before headed across the street for some jazz!

This place is excellent for late night bites and subtle drinks after a good jazz show. It’s popular but can be low key compared to the other food joints on the street. I definitely recommend the Tachos! I had loaded Tachos which are tater tots topped with bacon, cheese, sour cream, etc. Tachos are perfect for people who either drank too much or people with the munchies. It’s one of those late night bites. These are around $ 9! I also had their famous frozen Irish coffee which is almost like a caramel frapp but with hints of alcohol. It’s truly delicious and will run you $ 6.50 for a large!

The sun rises and falls. The clouds stretch across the landscape. The glaciers slowly ebb and flow across the landscape. And all this while you’re waiting for a drink. Don’t get me wrong, I can be patient. I’ve seen some bad service. But this. This is just hilarious. For some reason, the business model here seems to be not bother hiring any waitstaff and just hire bartenders. But no matter what, make sure those bartenders are the most indifferent, apathetic souls on the planet. I wonder what the interview process is like. «How badly do you want to work here?» «Pretty badly.» «Hmmmm that’s no good.» If you’re a cute girl, it might be different. It’d been about ten minutes since my drink emptied and the bartender was at the end of the bar, flirting a bit with an attractive female tourist. I waited. I sighed. I would’ve left but I don’t just run out on checks. And besides, I really wanted to try this BBQ chicken quesadilla special they had goin’. So we waited it out and I gotta say, the food was excellent. My buddy, a vegetarian, was amazed by the enormous amount of options. And the food came out FAST. Of course it did. Because it didn’t require the bartender. The drinks, if you can convince someone to make them for you, are actually pretty affordable. But you may go mad waiting. After all, your bartender has responsibilities. Like taking drink orders from all the tables and not filling them. And standing around talking to the off-duty bartenders. And getting high in the alley. But you know what? The food’s good and the drinks are pretty solid and nobody’s playing jazz in your face and sometimes that’s enough, I guess.

Nice music, good crowd. Came in early on Halloween because the place was less packed than others. Ended up coming back later on when it was much more packed and the only place that seemed to be serving food at that hour. Why no late night dining options NOLA? You know we’re awake. I ordered the borrachos. I’m not a huge tater tot fan, but if you cover them in bacon, cheddar, onions and BBQ sauce, well… it’s perfect drunk food. They’re even good cold. Service was really nice, even when the waiters were absolutely swamped.

As I close in on nearly 2,000 reviews over 8 years on Unilocal,I do want to be clear that I almost never write bad reviews. But 13 Monaghan left me with a bad taste in my mouth. And more specifically? A long, dark hair twisted into my tater tot nachos. But that’s not the worst of it. I’m not a local but my friends are — and they love 13. After a long night we were all hankering for some comfort food and my two NOLA-based friends told me they were stoked to take me to their favorite late night eatery. We walk in and it’s fun. It’s loud, it’s divey, and it’s not too crowded after midnight on a Weds. There’s a bar area with a few people seated atop some stools and in the back where we sat, there are a number of four tops that were mostly empty. The menu looked rad, the food sounded fun, and we sat and talked about what we’d ordered. My friend talked up some of her favorites as suggestions and mentioned how she’d been coming here for years and that while the service could be hit or miss, the food was always good. So let me be clear, aside from the long hair in my food, it was good. And that’s a mistake, I know it — but a rather disgusting one that left us all going, «Eww» and deciding we were done. It was the last straw. What’s worse than the hair was the attention or complete lack therof from our server. When we arrived we sat at a table just past the kitchen and within seconds a guy in a hat with short dark hair approached us and said, «We don’t have any of our well whiskey left» and walked away. We laughed because we hadn’t even so much as gotten waters and thought maybe we just looked like whiskey drinkers and he was informing us??? So we hung out for a few more mins, decided on food and then waited for him to come back with waters and take our drink order. Then we waited. And waited… And waited. And finally he came back after a few mins to bring water and take drink orders. The guy struck us as odd though. It seemed like he was potentially under the influence but we couldn’t be certain. And that’s a big assumption to make so I say that carefully. After he came back with our drinks we realized he only brought 2⁄3 drinks we ordered. So one of us was just sitting there waiting for his. We tried to slip in a food order before he left but he dashed off. Though the place didn’t seem short staffed,(2 people cooking in the kitchen, one bartender, and this guy with the hat) the guy who waited on us disappeared for a while. About 15 mins later(we’ve now been here close to 30 mins total) we see hat guy come back. After realizing we were not much of a priority one of our group(friend without a drink) decided to politely approach the bar and ask the hat guy if he could pop over and take our order when he had a chance. When my friend returned to the table and turned his back to the server, the server(hat guy) rolled his eyes and walked over to our table as if he had been rudely summoned. He huffed, shrugged his shoulders and said, «Sorry, this isn’t my job but I guess I can take your food order.» Which was odd because if it wasn’t his job, who’s was it? Everyone else appeared to have a clearly defined role and this guy was behind the bar, in front of the bar, getting lost in conversation with friends who came in, and then even literally got lost and disappeared for a good while. No need to upset him, we just placed our order and that was it. It was delivered to our table a few mins later by the kitchen staff because yet again, hat guy was gone. We ate, the food was great, but the nachos did end up with that hair mangled into them. Fortunately it was one of the last bites I had and it was basically time to cut our losses and go. If it weren’t for the completely horrendous service I’d have recommended 13 to friends visiting NOLA. But to come and be treated like an annoying out of town customer when we were simply there to support an otherwise cool-looking spot with good food(even vegan options, btw!) seemed like a huge downer. So test your luck, give 13 a shot. I know for some it’s an unlucky number and maybe I’m one of them. The rest of the staff seemed to be doing their jobs and working hard. I hate to decide that this place was a letdown based on just one person, but it was truly the worst customer service I’ve witnessed. The guy was slow, pissed off, distracted by friends, gone for periods of time, and we deduced that his original comment to our table about whiskey being gone was meant for another table entirely. The restaurant wasn’t packed but he was so out of it he couldn’t keep track of the two 4 tops he was managing. We even noticed that the other group was frustrated and had to go to the bar to pay their tab because the other guy was gone for too long doing.

No hello, no service, nothing. The woman bartending just ignored us and never said anything. 1 star, it’s hard to rate a place where you never recieved anything. If you don’t like people then why do you work at a bar? We sat at bar for what seemed like 5 min before getting up and leaving, went next door where they gladly accepted our buisness. Someone should fire her. I work at a bar and that would most certainly not be tolerated. Owner or manager be warned, we easily would have dropped some cash seeing as there was 4 of us.

Service seems to be a hit or miss. First time we came, we had great service as far as getting our orders taken and getting utensils, etc. Second time leaned more on the self-serve side. The frozen Irish coffee is amazing, and the cheese tots are great after a late night. Good place to go if you’re on Frenchmen.

My friends and I decided to have dinner here before venturing out one night. We all ordered different sandwiches and also ordered the sriracha tots to share. I orderer the Cuban that came with ham, pulled pork, swiss pickle and mustard. I thought the Cuban was too salty. I like salty food but this was just too much. I deconstructed my sandwich and saw about 3 pieces of ham. I took 2 pieces out of the sandwich and it tasted so much better! All that ham took away flavor of the pulled pork and other items. The sriracha tots weren’t that great. It tasted kinda old, like it had been sitting there for a minute. I had a bite or two and that was it. Perhaps we came on an off night but I was hoping for better food.

If I’m on Frenchman late at night then I’m at 13. Simply for 1 thing and 1 thing only. TACHOS! The stars could be higher but as Jen L. has mentioned service is kinda weird. The bartenders really do kind of ignore you. As if you’re just sitting at the bar to people watch(which could totally be your thing, no judgement). But I’m sure it’s customary to ask the guest if they want a drink or menu, right? I try not to let this deter me from stopping in to grab a beer and some bar food tho. Can’t deny those tachos are kind of heaven sent.

This was the only place we found on a Monday night after midnight that had good food that was within walking distance of the bar we were at. That’s a pretty hard category to fill. The service was pretty good. I had a boudain banh mi, which was pretty great. We didn’t have to wait too long for our food, and everyone left happy. The prices were good, and all in all it was a satisfying cap to a long night.

Came here while looking for a place to watch the World Cup in a downpour. Looked inside, saw they had a TV with soccer on it, so we went in. Got a round of drinks and some tater tots. I tried the sriracha and chicken variety. Pretty good, although the chicken was a little bland and I thought there was too much cheese. The sriracha ranch dipping sauce was really good though. My main gripe with this place was the service. Our first waiter wasn’t very at tentative, although the second one we had was much better. Overall, not a bad place, it’s just that there’s so many other bars that are better.

I went on vacation in 2014 for mardi gras and found this interesting spot which outside had a sign saying nachos made of gator tots. So I was sold lol Its exactly what you would think nachos, but instead of chips its tator tots. It wasn’t mind blowing, but definitely unique. The reason I give 5 stars is more for the service. The staff knew we were visiting and took the time to talk and make us feel welcomed

Whew… what an interesting place. What I will say is that the food is delicious. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, spinach salad with mushrooms, cucumbers, and red onions, and a tator tot mix with jalapeños and sirracha. The food did not disappoint, but the service was definitely lacking. There was only one person working in the entire kitchen for a restaurant full of several hungry guests who only had water to remedy their hunger pangs. The lady who served us seed stressed out and in need of a rest and a cool drink. A good late night spot to get decent food, but not too sure if the experience is worth the wait.

Yes!!! Definitely hit up this place for food. It’s easy for it to get lost amid the hustle and bustle of Frenchmen street. On a very short trip I have had their pulled pork sandwich three times(so far!). It is so good. There is hardly any sauce to speak of. Instead, you get juicy, tender, incredibly flavorful pork. It comes with potato chips which help to soak in the grease. Their tater tot dishes are also great bar fare. Make sure to play the jukebox and watch the bar staff recoil in horror every time that possessed machine plays«Taxman» by The Beatles every few songs. Fun neighborhood joint to be sure. Check it out!

Come in off the street and have a seat up at the bar! This just felt neat to sit by an open entrance and see and hear the street life as I ate my meal. I traveled there during Mardi Gras, so unfortunately I didn’t get to try their vegan breakfast options, but I did have the Tofu Banh Mi($ 10.00 dressed with carrot pickle, red onion, fresh jalapenos, cucumber, cilantro, soy sauce, and sriracha mayo on French bread). And the TOFU! The TOFUWASINCREDIBLE on this sandwich! I really want to know what they did! They said everything but the hot sauce is made in house. Wow! A chill little spot to check out in NOLA.

Truly this establishment is appropriately placed on Frenchman Street; totally fits the vibes!!! Kudos!!! I love the feel. The friendly nature of the employees. Availability of tables, although upon first sight this may not seen to be the case; once you journey to the rear portion, it opens up to additional seating. For the area, surprisingly enough they weren’t super duper busy. Grabbing a quick bite to eat, on 1 of my faaaaaaaaavorite streets, I wasn’t disappointed. The food quality was actually good, I must admit I was unsure at first, but I was pleased once I was seated & the eating commenced. The drinks were also a plus, I only got one, but a second would’ve been just right; oh well maybe next time. Love that the kitchen is open pretty late, that’s a difficult thing to find in this Post-K New Orleans; after a night of partying you need some drunk food, right??? I look forward to returning & trying some other notable menu items. Pricing was fair as well. Street parking is in effect.
