How disappointing this Tuxedo shop turned out to be. We rented 5 tuxes and 4 of them had either the wrong size shoes, shirts, jackets or both. And my fitting was done in the store — very poorly executed job for the outrageous prices we paid. I would not recommend this shop to anyone else.

I never would have rented from them except that my custom tailored tux was not yet ready when I got an invite to a UES cocktail party. So I came in on a Friday and rented a white jacket/black trouser tux for this soirée the following evening. After taking rather perfunctory measurements which I insisted they do again just to be sure they get the right size, they told me to come back the next day at 2 o’clock. The problem with this place is that they don’t keep their tuxes on premises. Rather they have to have them shipped from some warehouse in NJ(ick! enough said right there). So I show up the next day to pick it up and they had sent the wrong jacket. I mean how hard is it to look at a slip of paper, pick the right jacket and put it on a truck. If I screw up like that at my job, I’d get fired AND sued for malpractice. They managed to find a black jacket(not what I wanted) that kinda sorta fit. The biggest problem is that they can’t get anyone at the warehouse on the phone during the weekends so if they screw up, you’re effed! AVOIDTHESEMORONSLIKE A LEPERCOLONY! Look, if you’re a professional guy, you’re going to need a tux on occasion. It would behoove you to just spring for a custom tux. Don’t waste your money on rentals and risk having semi-literate eff-tards in NJ screw up your special occasion.

I guess I should have searched for«tie» instead of «necktie». My thought was that«tie» wouldn’t give me the right results. But I guess I should have trusted the Unilocal engine to get it right. Anyway, these guys have an kind of mediocre tie selection. A lot of the patterns were kind of gaudy, but there were some decent ones as well. Why not. The store was understaffed too, with only one person doing everything. Hard days for the formal wear business I suppose.

Renting tuxes sounded pretty daunting. All the reviews said that the sales people are out to screw you. I was pretty scared about going to Zeller but i need a tux for a black tie event. The experience was fine. I went in 2 days before my event. The woman took my measurements and described the options. There was some attempt to upsell but no real pressure. The woman who’s probably also the owner was very nice. I got my tux the next day and changed for my event at the store. The tux fit great and of course i looked amazing. Total a little over 100. There was a cheaper version around 80 but that was all out since i was renting during promo season. Only advice would be to go in early so you have a better selection especially during promo season. If you’re going to 1 – 2 events a year. I’d recommend buying one. From what i saw it was only 400 for a decent tux.

When you want a good-looking tux, and don’t want the latest designer thing coming off a Paris runway, Zeller provides helpful, professional service, at a reasonable price. They’ll even show you how to tie a bow-tie, no extra charge.
