Never ate here but just read the restaurant inspection ratings report and the place was shut down for live roaches, live mice, «flith» flies, raw sewage in food prep area and no sinks or soap provided for employees to wash their hands in the bathroom.

Pleasantly surprised by the food here. Ordered the $ 5 lunch special with curry chicken, Mac n cheese and collard greens for takeout.
Quality was great and the portions substantial. Definitely will be coming back to try more of the menu.

Zahlaya’s Bistro is a small West Indian spot in East Harlem that services Jamaican and Southern food. It is definitely comfort food and it is really tasty! I usually go for the jerk chicken with mac & cheese and rice & peas with curry chicken gravy. I have also tried the stew chicken, curry chicken, friend chicken, and the yams.
I would say it is definitely worth a try because the food is great and extremely afforable. The employees are also really nice.
