What a great space! I agree with the other reviewers on Unilocal.Very clean, very intimate — but not super tiny. Not a bad seat in the house. I saw Cloven Tongues here and had a great time.

Great little venue. They sell wine and a beer for a few bucks that you can take into the performance. They have a small gallery in front that’s usually showing some interesting works.

Took my kids to see a production of Rumpelstiltskin here and it was great! The play was kind of questionable at first but it quickly grew on me and I was laughing pretty hard during some scenes. They have stadium seating and there aren’t any bad seats in my opinion. The seats are cushioned and comfortable. I was sitting in the very front row and was 2 feet away from the stage but didn’t have any problems. The workers are super friendly and the theater has a very modern yet homey feel. I hope to see another production here soon!

This place gets a solid 5-starts. I was invited her by a friend, who was contracted to play in a jazz ensemble here. For $ 20.oo you hear great music, followed by a number of a interpretive dance sequences. The beer was cheap and the atmosphere was inviting. Probably one of the last cheap date ideas left in the big city.

Definitely the nicest theater in the EV that I have been in recently. I don’t think it’s been there for that long but to be honest I rarely walk on that side of the street since Mama’s Food Shop is on the other side. I saw a wonderful production of Iphigenia there earlier this week and the raised glass stage was gorgeous and the seating was very comfortable with a lot of light wood. The art out front was really nice and the $ 4 glass of red wine was quite good.

It is a niche space– perfect for the East Village. With stadium seating for no more than 80 – 100 people, it is an intimate space that is perfect for improv and small production plays. The improv we went and saw was great and they sold PBR out of the can which just added to the pleasurable viewing experience. The best part about this place is the interaction with the performers both before, during and after the performances. It is such a small space that you can’t help but mingle with them which was truly a delight as artists and actors and especially actresses are a joy to conversate with. The eco-conscious design truly added an element to the ambiance and it allowed this space to attain a defined identity. A beautiful lobby albeit small awaits you and the bathrooms are gorgeous(although I feel weird saying that). Check out the improv for $ 5 or the plays for $ 10– another positive alternative to blacking out and dropping a hyundai.

Wonderful Off-Off Broadway space showcasing work from a variety of downtown companies. It’s the first truly GREEN performance space in the city(as far as I know) and has an inviting lobby/gallery that opens directly onto the street in the spring/summer. The theater itself is comfortable and gorgeous. The seating rakes up and back, so sitting in the middle of the house is preferable(similar to The Kirk on Theatre Row). There is a roof garden as well if you’re lucky enough to see it. A great rental for a company looking for a clean, impeccably designed modern space that is the antithesis to the grungy black boxes that dominate the theater scene below 14th street.

Fairly new venue that hosts theater, film and art shows. It’s so fresh and so… green! It’s the first theater in the city I know of that was consciously built as a green-friendly space. It’s a very small theater at less than 100 seats, but it doesn’t feel cramped. The cushioned seats are quite comfortable, actually! If you’ve ever been to the Daryl Roth/DR2 theaters, it’s a lot like that, with stadium seating that looks down onto the stage. If you’re in the front row, you’ll be quite close to the action… just don’t trip the actors! There are two bathrooms with toilets that have new-fangled water-saving technology. Flush upward for #1, flush downward for #2(I kid you not, there are instructions on the toilet!). I’m sure most people are simply used to flushing downward, so it actually forces you to be more conscientious about your water usage. If that were my toilet at home, that would definitely take some getting used to. But I digress. They also offer some beverages(alcoholic and non) pre-show, although I’m not sure if you’re allowed to bring them into the theater. It’s such a beautiful clean space, I wouldn’t want to dirty it up with spilled liquids, etc. It’s always so encouraging to see new theaters crop up around the city, especially when they’re clean, comfortable… and yes, so green!
