Whispers Restaurant, Bar & Lounge

This was our first time at Whispers and certainly won’t be our last. We walked in to a casual, cozy atmosphere and were greeted right away by the owner Carlos, who just may be the nicest restauranteur I have ever met in New York City.
We ordered the empanadas, beef stew, pernil, mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, arroz condules, and maduros. So so delicious!
Both our waitress and Carlos’ hospitality made our experience wonderful and memorable. I Highly recommend this place.

This place was nice the food is ok but what i love the most is the waitress/​bartender Marina she is very attentive and polite she makes sure your happy with you Food and drinks. Honestly the best coconut mojito ever. I’ll promise you won’t regret it. So if you looking for a nice place to have dinner n feel welcome this is the place i would recommend this place Marina makes you feel like you are the most special costumer.

This place has become one of my go to spots in the neighborhood. The owner Carlos is a gracious host who always makes you feel welcome. The food is very good and a bargain compared to some of the other restaurants in the area. Perhaps this place gets overlooked because it’s between the avenues. Of course, I have to mention the best part… Friday night karaōke! It’s always a fun time and all types of music are welcome. Feel free to say hello if you stop by. I’ll be the guy singing some Backstreet Boys and Jason Mraz.

I celebrated my birthday here tonight, after originally planning to go someplace else. I could not have been happier to stumble across this diamond instead.
As other reviews have stated, the owner Carlos is kind and welcoming as previously described. We chatted for a while, like two longtime friends would.
The bartender Jessie served me two specially made drinks that warmed me nearly as much as her smile. (I dare you to not find her absolutely captivating…)
Four paragraphs in and no mention of food yet? Well this place is full of character and ambiance, and that is delightfully delicious before you take a single bite.
I had their roast pernil with arroz con gandules and sweet maduros. The pork was «melt in your mouth» good, and the sides perfectly sweet/​salty balanced.
I ended with a slice of tres leches cake, dripping in cream and rum… which was even served to me quite unexpectedly with a flickering candle for my birthday.
If you’ve never been to Whispers before, you owe it to yourself to try it out. I sat at the bar, made two new friends, and I’ll absolutely be returning quite soon.

Whispers is amazing and the owner Carlos is energetic and is full of life. He makes everybody comfortable and welcomed to his place I love it here

First time visiting… place was cool nice music… the waiter/​bartender was awesome… the owner Carlos was kool… nice guy… the pasta and ribs were great… I got wings to… they were fried a little to long they were kind of hard… drinks were kool… overall nice night out… I will visit again later in the year… they’ve only been open 17 months… kool little spot.

Three words, FRIDAY NIGHT KARAOKE!!! omg I had such a great night here. I have to mention how nice & welcoming the owner & staff are. $ 9 – 15 drinks, lots of options on the menu for delicious appetizers/​entrée. Definitely coming back! Love love love this little hidden upper west side gem!

We went on a Friday night and Karaōke was provided by Luckee. I had the coconut margarita (it was okay) and the pomegranate margarita (loved it!). My friend has a Malibu Bay Breeze. It was really good I thought, but it was very strong (all the drinks are, not a complaint!) and she doesn’t drink much. I got a Caesar salad w/​o onion and she for the Tres Leche desert. Both delicious!!! We have never participated in Karaōke before, and we sang umpteen songs. It was AWESOME. Not creepy or weird. I loved that the place was small. The owner was SO attentive. Sat us, checked on is multiple times and even sang with us.

Fun crowd, fun staff and a relaxed vibe. Unlikely little spot that offers karaōke, brunch specials and live music nights. Beer is always cold and food warm. Three TVs to watch «the game» on. Owner is always out busting his butt because he loves and believes in his spot, so it’s always nice to see it busy. If you’re in the neighborhood, come out and support it!

Fun, casual neighborhood bar /​restaurant. Excellent wings and other reasonably priced fare. The owner Carlos is nearly always present and so nice and attentive. An underrated jewel.

I was turned on to this place by a friend. Had the opportunity to meet the owner who is magnetic and welcoming. I went back for wild wings wednesdays with my wife and friends. I absolutely LOVE this place! I will be a regular at the bar where the bartenders are marvelous.
When you ask me where’s a good place to have good food and great drinks in a very nice atmosphere, I will yell out Whispers!

The owner of this sweet and comfortable bar is very kind and welcoming guy! He checked on us several times to make sure we were happy with our food and comfortable, and had everything we needed.
The mojitos were yummy, and they had many good flavors, perfect for an after work drink on a warm summer afternoon. The food was very down-​to-​earth, casual and delicious. Try the mini empanadas!

My wife and I had dinner at Whispers last night. If you are looking for a place to have good food at very reasonable prices, then Whispers is for you. The cocktails were excellent, there is a good selection of beers on tap and an interesting selection of things to eat.
The very best feature of Whispers is the welcoming attitude of the owner and the staff. We have had this type of service in small family-​run restaurants overseas but this is the first time we had such personal attention and service in New York City. We will be back for both cocktails and for another dinner.

I came in before they Open so I guess they Where not Ready but where very courteous on assisting Us.

Cool, chill vibe and atmosphere. Foodies good. Drinks are great and tasty but potent.
Definitely worth coming. I will be back!

The owner was very friendly, he came over and introduced himself.
Thing that lost a star — it was really humid inside. The windows were completely coated in condensation and it felt like a sticky summer day in there and there were only 6 people inside.

One thing I can say about whisper’s is that it is a very welcoming and friendly location! We walked in and we’re promptly seated granted The Restaurant Was empty. Came here because I purchased a Groupon, we had the chicken wing appetizer that came with the Whisper’s signature sauce which tasted fantastic and honestly, the chicken wings tasted good by themselves without the sauce.
We drank the house wine which was a sweet moscato and it tasted fantastic! For dinner, I had the pork ribs and mashed potatoes and my partner had the chicharones de pollo with arroz con guandules and platano maduro — all in all the food was a bit under seasoned and could’ve been properly seasoned.
The owner of the restaurant did come up to us and thank us for coming to his restaurant, something that rarely happens in NYC but it was so nice of him to have done so and we truly appreciated it.
Due to the positive atmosphere, I do think I’d come back and try this place out again — perhaps let the cook know that the food could be better seasoned.

I really like the place. We called to make a reservation and the guy on the phone was very friendly. The location is very convenient and easy to get. I was expecting better food, the pizza wasn’t good and the corn bread was very dry. The platanos maduros were over cooked. But the pita bread with the cilantro dip was very good. Maybe I won’t go back to have dinner but definitely I will go back for drinks and have a good time. The waitress was very nice as well.

Upper west side rarely sees new bars opening up so it was a surprise hearing about this place opening up.
Passed by Saturday night with a few patrons inside. The place was quaint with some TVs and ample seating.
At the time there was only one server but the owner Carlos noticed and made our drinks. He was pleasant and checked up on us to make sure we were okay.
Another table had an issue with the POS and he took care of it with grace which is always good to see.
Server Jess was sweet as well, and served great mojitos.
Great to have more choices on where to grab a drink in the neighborhood.
Looking forward to returning and trying out the food.
