This was my 2nd visit to Vynl, but it had been a couple years since my last. I wanted to take an out of towner to a fun place that was low key and casual. Apparently the clientele freaked him out, as he is from the deep south. This partially soured the experience simply because he was being a bit rude to everyone in earshot. The service was really, really, really slow. I am writing this one off to the rude patron that I brought :(I did not have that experience last time, so I am just going to give the staff the benefit of the doubt. The food itself was so freaking good, and the portions were generous. Everyone at the table enjoyed my sesame chicken. I wouldn’t say anything I had here blew my mind, but for the price point it was excellent. I would like to visit again with my friends and see if I have a better time. I really hope so, as I thought it was great the first time around.

The atmosphere was fun, the staff was friendly, the food proportions were huge. Our waitress was from our hometown of Colorado, so we had much to discuss. I love the blood orange margarita. It was a lot of fun and the menu had a great deal to choose from, giving everyone at our table lots of options.

I ended up at Vynl for a last minute dinner with my husband. Great feel and décor… too bad I couldn’t say the same for the food. I would rate the restaurant a 2 if it wasn’t for the drinks. They have a creative and tasty drink menu. I ordered the chicken pot pie and was really looking forward to an old school fav to warm me up and help me deal with the cold… that didn’t happen. Their take on a chicken pot pie was a bowl of mush with a THICK layer of puff pastry just placed on top. Needless to say, I was not impressed. My husband’s choice, buttermilk battered chicken, was better but not life changing — especially for how much we paid for the meal. I highly recommend Vynl if you are looking to grab some drinks… it has a great atmosphere, but I know I won’t go back for dinner.

I have loved Vynl since my Fordham days, before it’s move and expansion to the east side, etc. They have great fruity, fun cocktails if that mood strikes you; drinkable wine by the glass; diner-done-right type of food, which is usually more on the healthier side; and vegetarian options. Their salt/pepper chips that come with the sandwiches are to die for! Nearly every time I go, I get the tofu-L-T. It’s delish! Great place to meet up before a night out or after work to grab a quick bite.

With the overwhelming plethora of restaurants in New York, it is hard to find a cheerful, high-quality joint that is affordable. Walking into Vynl makes me happy! The décor is cute & cheerful, and they somehow have knack for passing out the right album-cover menus to the right person. On a recent Monday afternoon brunch, I got Linda Ronstadt(huge fan), my husband got Keith Carradine, and my gay boyfriend got The Village People. Like, how did they KNOW? For $ 9, I got a deliciously fluffy and fresh veggie omelet with a crispy crunchy hash brown cake and toast. I have also had the veggie burger and assorted appetizers there, and have never once had a complaint about the food. The drinks are lovingly crafted, if a little pricey — now, I know $ 8 for a Bloody Mary or a Martini is cheap by NY standards, and the drinks are made pretty strong; so I am really not complaining about the price points here. I do wish that they would institute an AYCD brunch special with unlimited Bloodys/Mimosas/etc. Heads up to those who go out of their way to avoid a scene — Vynl gets crowded at night on weekends(duh, it’s New York) and those people can be EXTRA. It’s like the Equity lounge in there sometimes. Just grab a booth, if you can, and act VIP.

its been said before, but i cant believe that i havent reviewed this mainstay in my diet before now! this restaurant doesnt have the appearance of being anymore than a generic diner, albeit with a little more«designed» sense to the interior. as for the food, i am always so pleasantly surprised by how good it is. for the past few months they have had a rustic tomato soup with grilled cheese croutons(yes, thats right, they make grilled cheese sandwiches and cut out little rounds to top the soup with) on the daily specials, and its better than any ive had in the past(including wich’crafts, a very close second). the spaghetti and meatballs are awesome, with an über flavorful sauce and moist, well seasoned meatballs. the breakfast burrito is great, too, i love their hashbrowns, a shredded potato round that is deep fried to be crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. both the beef and turkey meatloafs are awesome, and as a sandwich or dinner plate and you cant ignore the bathrooms, redic balls, yes, but come on, they are fun! im partial to justin timberlake, though, i think his is at the chelsea location

It’s hit or miss for me, but this location was very good. Our server was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We had a delicious brunch/lunch of french toast(the winner of the day), turkey cobb salad, and grilled vegetable wrap. Their homemade chips rocked my world! The idea of the restaurant is rad, with their vinyl cases as menus and CDs separating the booths. The décor is very clean and stark, and the bathroom was spotless. I think you can tell a lot about a place by their bathroom, so it impressed me. It’s incredibly loud, and busy on Sundays, but it’s a great spot.

Vynl is good. it’s not AMAZING. i have a friend in hell’s kitchen who swears by this place. she says it’s like her favorite restaurant and would come every day if she could… but then when she got the vegetarian potstickers she said she didn’t like them… how this can be her favorite place and she doesn’t like the food is beyond me. i had vegetarian stir fry and i really liked it. good tofu, good veggies, not too much salt. the décor is cool and i like that the menus are all different records. the bathrooms are actually the best part though. each one is a different theme(there are 4 uni-sex, single stall bathrooms) ranging from elvis to dolly in which their music plays as you pee. it’s very kitchy. the prices were decent and the service was fine. not wam bam ridiculously fabulous but not totally sucky either.
