This place is AMAZING. Ash is awesome and goes the extra mile to make sure customers are satisfied. I always get my wheat grass shots and smoothies from here. Such a pleasant surprise to finally have a health store in the neighborhood. The salads are delicious. The best thing about the place is the customer service.

I’ve tried to give it a chance. The first time I went they had just opened, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and even though the salad wasn’t the tastiest, they gave you a lot. Their sandwiches on the other hand are pitiful. I got a honey apple brie type of thing on a toasted roll. It wasn’t toasted, ok, whatever, but there is barely anything inside the roll. Some mushy shredded apples with barely a hint of honey and maybe two pieces of brie about an inch in size. It also took about 10 minutes to make. Not sure what he was doing the whole time.

Ordered delivery from this place. First, the order took about 40 – 50 minutes for delivery(it is literally a block away). Second, the food was sad. I ordered a tofu and pesto sandwich. There was no pesto, and the there were just a few pieces of tofu. There was a little bit of basil on it, but it was pretty pathetic. My partner ordered a wrap; it was tiny, and the ingredients were sub-par. Lastly, we ordered a Tabuli salad. The bulgar wheat in the salad was slimy. The juice was the only thing that was worth consuming. However, it was missing key ingredients. This place was incredibly disappointing and very overpriced.

Wasn’t exactly sure what to expect(ordered off of grub hub and descriptions were somewhat minimal) but always willing to try out any new veggie friendly place in Harlem– and was pleasantly surprised! Good flavor and generous portions. Will definitely order again. I ordered special soup which was some kind of curried lentil thing, very good flavor, not boring without overdoing it on salt. I also got the detox salad– it had kale too which I don’t think was in the description but was a welcome addition. I also got the tofu Caesar salad and asked for it to be made in a wrap. That was decent but would have preferred more lettuce and for it to be toasted– things I will specify next time. I also think a big distinction is between vegan and vegetarian– I am the latter, and I think specifying that would leave more room for more flavor. Bottom line: there will be a next time :)

Too often we see fast food places in this neighborhood, but Veg Out is bucking that trend. This place has some of the better sandwiches and salads in an area that sorely needs them. It’s the one place I know of in lower Washington Heights where you can get authentic baba ganoush; I wish they’d sell it by the container for takeaway. The service is friendly, especially when the proprietor is around. They are still very new, so they sometimes get a bit in the weeds, but overall it’s promising. It would be easy for the casual observer to confuse this place with the many bodegas around here, since they didn’t go too fancy with the signage, but the stock here is definitely upscale and definitely not what you see at the local grocery stores. We need more correctives to all the fast food places that Washington Heights landlords foist upon us. I will be coming in here a lot.

I came in here after my gyms session with my trainer. I love to have good smoothies especially after a good workout. As soon as I walked in the people were nice and greeted me. I ordered the Veg Out Almond smoothie with some protein added and it was just delicious. After the smoothie is done they give you a little taste which I think is very good. I will definitely be back especially since it is literally outside the gym I train in.
