Across the street from Franklin Street Station is a weird place to have a home and garden tchotchke shop. And«Tribbles» makes me think of the fuzzy little creatures from Star Trek.(NOT Next Generation or Next Next Generation, people — the real Star Trek or bust). Location and name aside, Tribbles is a well designed, sleek shop that doesn’t smell too badly of scented candles. Most of the stuff is WAY beyond my price range and/or lacks a real use. But there are some treasures, like neat espresso cups, and a smooth silver apple-shaped kitchen timer for $ 14 that was so cool I went back to Tribbles and bought four more. So if you’re troubled in TriBeCa, try Tribbles. Oof.

Just opened in January 2007, THG features unique kitchen, bath, garden and home accessories. There’s also a small flower market inside. We picked up a few breakfast sets — a wonderful porcelain cup with a well-designed plate — which we are leaving as a host gift for friends here. Service is pleasant and friendly.
