Average rice balls. Average cheesy garlic bread. Lasagna sampler — 2 types were just a-okay but the lamb with mint lasagna was something like I’ve never had before and pretty delicious. This restaurant trip was worth it just for that lamb lasagna. Service was very nice. Take my review for what it’s worth, I’m probably the pickiest/toughest Italian food critic ever.

Very good cheese ball and very good chicken parmesan sandwich. Yes, that’s what I had for lunch.

I booked a pasta making class via Gilt, and while the sign up was frustrating(our class kept getting rescheduled) it was 100% worth it in the end. I’m guessing that the others signed up for another day, so the class was just my bf and I, which was incredible, obviously. Our teacher was Vince, and he made the class so much fun. Wine kept coming, we learned a lot, and got to eat(and take home) what we made. We learned how to make the dough, how to use the pasta machine, how to shape different pastas, how to make Beshamel and bolognese. The time flew, and before I knew it, we were walking out of there with the trays of lasagna we made. Everyone was so friendly, everything looked really clean, and I’d really like to sign up for another one of their classes!

A MUST in NYC. In a city with too many restaurants, Tommy Lasagna is a place you’ll visit time and time again. The service is excellent, the good is spectacular, and it’s all made in house. Pasta, mozzarella, all made fresh daily. Not to mention the manager, Warren is amazing. Go now.

I have wanted to come to Tommy Lasagna for a while and my only regret is that I didn’t come in sooner. The food was excellent and offers an interesting twist on red sauce italian. For appetizers, everything we sampled was delicious! From rice balls(both cheese and bolgnese) to frito misto everything was a joy to taste. Perhaps what is most impressive is how they take traditional basic dishes like a Caesar salad or garlic bread and allow the maximum amount of flavor. For a main dish, obviously the lasagna is why people walk in the door but the crispy chicken with the hash brown cake was amazing! Sadly I was too full for dessert but the cheesecake on the table next to me looked equally as delicious. The service was great — all in all, highly recommended!

So, the only reason I tried this place was because there was a Scoutmob deal, and I’m a big fan of carbs(especially pasta!). How can anyone screw up lasagna right? I was the most excited to try the lobster lasagna, but I was sadly disappointed. It was nowhere near as good as I had imagined it would be. It’s a good deal to get the lasagna sampler though, which will let you sample multiple types of lasagnas in smaller portions. My two friends and I shared that, as well as an order of penne w/vodka, which was tasty! Service was friendly and the ambiance was nice(would be suitable for a date), but I can’t say I particularly recommend the food. Decent but forgettable!

Me and my friend always wanted to try Lasagna. We personally came to this location because one of our friend recommended us. Me and my friend came here around 4pm on Wednesday and yet it wasn’t ready to open. When me and my friend walked in, they were putting down the chairs and cleaning. We were little disappointed that this fancy restaurant is not ready to open. We ordered Rice Balls, 3 samples Lasagna and Italian Spicy Sausage Lasagna. The food came very late, we waited about 35+ mins at least. The Sample Lasagna is a must try for first timers. The service was very nice and felt very comfortable talking with the waiter. The waiter even apologized for the long wait. The waiter knows details of every foods. We asked a lot questions regarding Lasagna since it’s our first time trying Lasagna. He suggested Rice Balls for appetizer and it was so delicious, I don’t regret ordering the Rice Balls. On other hand, I don’t recommend this restaurant if you’re looking to grab a quick food because they take very long time to prepare. Also the restaurant is pretty pricey. The amount of the time you wait for the food is not worth the money, but their delicious food is worth the money.

I just found out today is National Lasagna Day! I missed it by one day, but maybe that’s the perfect excuse to go back to Tommy Lasagna’s! I had been wanting to try this restaurant since passing by it on my way to after-work drinks at Cibar. My opportunity arrived last night in the form of a dinner with some former colleagues(now official friends). The décor was exactly what I expected with low lighting, exposed brick, and a warm glow from the oven/kitchen at the back of the restaurant. Upon being seated, we were offered a bottle of tap water for our table and some warm bread with olive oil. We started the meal with the Lobster Mac & Cheese appetizer, which appeared small in size at first glance, but was actually perfect for sharing. And for dinner I tried the Tasting Menu, which let me order three of the lasagnas: Tommy Lasagna, Poppa’s Lasagna, Truffle Lasagna. All of them were amazing in their own ways, but I think the Poppa’s Lasagna was my favorite. I do want to go back and try some more of the lasagnas, as well as the pasta dishes… I saw a Linguine Vongole at the table next to me that looked so yummy! Everything was pretty perfect, and I highly recommend Tommy Lasagna’s for a date or a small get-together. P. S. I got a free glass of prosecco for checking in on Unilocal

Came here randomly for Sunday night dinner. We made a reservation but not really a need for a Sunday night. We ordered the lobster mac & cheese as our appetizer. Perfect for someone who loves pasta oozing with creaminess. There were lobster bits but I wish they were a tad more chunkier. The dish itself was not too salty, which was relieving. And the pasta was a plus — freshly made so it had a soft yet firm texture. We loved the garlic bread w/cheese! They don’t go skimpy on that cheese & it’s so worth the oozy goodness! So just get the god damn cheese, please =) Worth the $ 2 extra! I had the artichoke & spinach lasagna. All the lasagnas are decently large portions for one so you won’t have to worry about leaving with an empty stomach. The grana padano & mozzarella were perfectly blended with the spinach & artichoke hearts. Here and there, I tasted delicious bits of garlic. And to have everything bedded in between layers of homemade lasagna sheets? Heaven! Wait staff is very helpful with suggestions. No complaints there. Hostess was also very friendly when she greeted us. Dimly lit for intimate atmosphere, yet also really great for groups. Definitely worth coming back for unlimited pasta — $ 35 a head? Hell yes!

I’m a fairly frequent visitor of Tommy’s for lunch. I work in the area and sometimes just crave a slice of lasagna. I have yet to have one I don’t like! The portion for lunch is great, and comes with a side salad for $ 10! I also love the vibe of the restaurant, the open kitchen is cool to look at while you’re waiting. The service here is always great, granted it’s not very crowded during the lunch hour, maybe because it’s a little hidden, or just not known to be a lunch spot. I think I’d have to say my top 2 favorites are Spicy Sausage & Poppa’s Lasagna! I’ll definitely be back again and again.

Great for groups, semi-nice but affordable dinner out and the staff was very accommodating as we kept changing our headcount. Carb overload beware! The lasagnas are delicious and huge, but the non-pasta entrees(steak and the chicken, for example) tended to be a little on the small side. Our favorite dish was the rigatoni! A few of us has lasagna samplers and we concluded that the best were the lobster lasagna, poppa’s, and the truffle. The least favorite was the artichoke and spinach. A little bland and disappointing in flavor, this could use a few tweaks. The red wine sangria was decent, and definitely had a kick! We ordered the fresh berry crêpe which had a little too much syrup. I would choose the chocolate cake next time! Despite this, I still recommend Tommy Lasagna for group gatherings because the service was stellar! Simple, rustic, and very pleasant experience!

I can’t believe I have been working up the block from Tommy Lasagna for more than a year and yesterday was the first time I went to lunch. SODAMNGOOD! The service is a tad bit slow for the lunch hour but the quality of the food says«I don’t give a damn if I’m late… This was worth it». We ordered the cold cut platter as an appetizer and I had the Poppas Lasagna. One of my colleagues ordered Tommy’s Lasagna and it was as delicious as the other reviews state it is. What CHA waitin’ for? Go get you sum!

Came here at lunch and it was almost empty. Points to them for allowing me to take a table even though my friend hadn’t arrived yet. Service was average. Lasagna was good but no better than any other homemade lasagna. Garlic bread tasted, both in flavor and texture, like it had been used to sop up beef broth. Nasty. Nothing worth returning for.

Okay, so my visit to Tommy’s Lasagna was completely last minute. My boyfriend and I saw a show at Union Square Theater and walked by Tommy’s on my way to my car. We stopped to look at the menu and as soon as I saw the truffle lasagna, I was sold! I love pretty much anything truffle, especially pasta dishes. It was a Sunday night so there were people but it wasn’t packed and we didn’t need a reservation. They were very kind and accommodating as we told them initially that we were in a rush and only had 45 minutes to eat. They sat us and our waitress came over immediately. She was very helpful in our ordering pasta. Apparently Sunday night is unlimited pasta night there, something we would definitely like to try another time when we have more time! They brought out bread which was honestly the weakest part of the meal. It was warm but cold in the center and had an off putting sort of refrigerator taste. I could have done without it all together. We started with the tricolor salad and the rice balls. They brought the salad out already divided onto two plates which we loved! Makes things so much easier. The salad was good, pretty basic and definitely suitable if you’re looking for just a green salad. The rice balls that followed were awesome! I had never had anything like it. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about the rice and cheese being fried together. But they were quite tasty, especially with the sauce on the side. The sauce which I very much enjoyed! For our entrees I had the truffle lasagna and my boyfriend had the fuscili with tomato, mozzarella, and basil. I absolutely loved the truffle lasagna, it was amazing!!! By far the best and most unique lasagna that I have ever had, a must if you go there, especially if you’re a vegetarian which I am! I definitely love a traditional lasagna but rarely get to eat then as my very Italian family always makes it with meat. So you can understand my excitement at the vegetarian friendly and absolutely delectable truffle lasagna at Tommy’s! My boyfriends dish was simple but good. I can’t really speak on it but I can say that he very much enjoyed it! I can’t rave more about this restaurant, if you’re in the flatiron district or just in NYC and looking to try something new, you must go here! I’m almost certain you will not be disappointed!

This place was right around the corner from our hotel on Union Square; once we read the reviews and menu, we couldn’t wait to eat here! I just wish they were open for lunch. The rice balls(risotto) are as good as everyone says and at a place with ‘lasagna’ in the name, we both had to try it. I had the spicy Italian sausage and she had the artichoke & spinach; both were fantastic. Very authentic and totally bad for us, but it really is the best lasagna I’ve had in a long time. Good portions for the price, given that we’re in New York. $ 60 total for dinner. Definitely going back the next time I’m close-by.

This place is just amazing. I love lasagna & I make my own but I really like tasting other people’s recipes to get ideas for making different types other than my standard. Best lasagna place I’ve been to in the city. And the owner? He is an honest, upstanding guy. Everytime I’ve gone(and I’ve gone a lot, I’m addicted) he is working just as hard as the servers and the cooks. If you don’t know which one he is, he blends right in with the rest of the staff. That’s how good his relationship is with his workers. Talking to him was a delight. He is very personable and loves his craft. I can truly support a person like this. And I do without any reservations.

I visited Tommy Lasagna on a Friday and was surprised to see it fairly empty. It was nice that we were able to get a table quickly but it was still very very loud. My girlfriend beat me there and had a drink at the bar, she reported the bartender was quite friendly. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, towards the end of our meal as she picked up more tables she began to slow down but for the most part she was great. For our appetizer we had the rice ball tasting. I believe one was bechamel and mozzarella and the other was a bolognese. I wasn’t really impressed with the bolognese one but the mozzarella one was lovely. They were lightly fried and the inside was warm and gooey. For my main course I got the Tommy Lasagna. It was a nice sized portion and very good. The pasta was nice and soft and all the elements really worked well together. You could really taste all the distinctive ingredients. It’s rare that I eat lasagna because it’s typically very heavy but I didn’t feel like I was about to explode after finishing it. I tried my girlfriends truffle lasagna and though it was terrible. I do enjoy the flavor of truffles but hate mushrooms in general so my opinion shouldn’t matter too much in your decision to get it. I found it a bit bland and overly rich, I think it works well in the sampler but I know how someone could eat a whole one. I’m a sucker for a cannoli and when the waitress told me they were made in house by their pastry chef I couldn’t resist. While the presentation was visually pleasing the strawberries on the side were nice I though the actual cannolis fell flat. The filling was a bit bland and not very sweet. The actually cannoli shells were a bit overcooked, much harder and crispier than what I’m used to. They would be a definite skip for me if I was to go back. The only other downside about this place is the cost, personally I think they need to shave about 20% off the prices. $ 12 for a small drink and $ 7-$ 10 for a beer is a bit much as is $ 18 for the lowest price piece of lasagna which while large isn’t massive by any means. It’s clear what crowd they’re trying to attract but with the location and no wait on a Friday night I’m not sure it’s working. Overall I enjoyed the food. I’m not going to be rushing back there any time soon but it’s going on the list of places I’d be willing to return to.

My college girlfriend and I decided to meet up for a reunion/goodbye dinner near where we used to go to school. After studying the menu and seeing the happy hour special, we agreed to try this place and made our reservation for 5:30(the happy hr special was listed til 7). My friend was first to arrive and had already ordered her watermelon margarita when I got there. When I asked her what were the food items for the happy hours, she told me the waitresses only mentioned drinks. Soon, our waitress who was a trainee(she had another waiter supervising her behind us) came back over and presented us once more the happy hour specials. When I inquired about the happy hour food items which was clearly listed on their website and recently mentioned on Unilocal, the waiter quickly interrupted and said«we don’t do food for happy hours» and hurried us to order appetizers. Instead of saying we stopped doing happy hour specials for food, he made it sound as if I’m just imagining things. Fine, no happy hr specials, so my friend and I ended up each ordering our own lasagna samplings from the main menu(my friend ordered the truffle, the Italian sausage, and lamb) while I ordered the veggie, truffle, and lamb). The food took extremely long to come out — maybe a good 30 – 45 mins. My friend and I were starving by then and we couldn’t even break the the complimentary bread with olive oil apart… not even with our starving desperation. When our orders finally arrived, I quickly noticed each«entrée» portion itself was more the size of an appetizer. I can literally finish each type of lasagna in one bite. The lasagnas were nothing to write home about. They were 3 stars good — Not worth the price, not worth the wait. Towards the end of the meal, I was dying to see what the dessert menu was. since I was literally still starving. The waitress came back once more with a list in her hand reading off 10 consecutive items which I had a really hard time following. Nothing stood out — cookies and milk? crème brûlée, cheesecake? I asked her the pricing of the desserts– the waiter jumped back into the picture telling us that they are currently changing the menu and depends on which dessert item we want. No straight answer. Since we didn’t hear anything that stood out, we decided to just save our money and go elsewhere for sweets. In the end, our total came out to be around 50 dollars with tax and tip included. After we paid our bill, we sat for another 45 mins to catch up. No one ever came back to check on us again. Wished I asked for more water before we paid our bill. Hungry and dehydrated — what a dining experience. at least I had great company.

Came here for a birthday celebration with a group of around 10 people or so. They were very accomodating and seated us before the entire party arrived. Our waiter, Zak, provided excellent service! We wanted to order the crab meat salad for appetizers, and Zak was kind enough to inform us that they ran out of sriracha sauce that is usually used to make the salad. He gave us samples of the crab meat salad using a different hot sauce prior to actually ordering. I had the lobster lasagna and the spicy sausage lasagna. The lobster lasagna had a strange sauce that didn’t appeal to me. I wouldn’t order that again, but the spicy sausage lasagna was amazing. Not too spicy, but just enough to give it a good kick. My friend offered me a taste of her lobster pasta, which was delicious! The sauce was unique and flavorful! We brought our own cake from outside, and the restaurant was able to provide plates and cut the cake with no additional fees for us. Thanks, Zak, for providing us with such great service and making our experience at this restaurant very enjoyable!
