What’s better than having a taco truck just steps away from home? Having a freakin’ awesome taco truck just steps away from home. Tia Rosa’s tacos are Mexican street food style — double corn tortilla with meat, diced onions and cilantro, your choice of sauce(s), and lime and radish slices on the side — just the way I like ‘em. There aren’t as many meat options as I’ve seen at other taco trucks. You pretty much only have the choices of carnitas, pollo, bistec, lengua, and chorizo, but that’s fine by me since lengua tacos are my favorite and Tia Rosa’s are legit. Each taco will cost you $ 2.50, which is 50 cents more than what the famous El Rey del Taco truck at 30th Ave charges but hardly anything to complain about. Plus, extras like pico de gallo and guac are free. If tacos aren’t your thang, the«más» at Tia Rosa’s is burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and cemitas. I still haven’t quite figured out their schedule. When I asked, they said that they’re at their spot every day at 5pm until late but they don’t seem to always operate on this schedule. I suppose the devastation of realizing the truck isn’t there while on the way home from a night of partying is somewhat balanced by the joy of seeing the truck round the corner on the way to their spot just as I’m pondering what to eat for dinner.(Yes, both of these things have happened to me.) N-train Astorians should stick to El Rey, but R/M-train Astorians rejoice! We now have a taco truck to call our own.

Had a late night dinner at this truck on my way home the other night. I had the quesadilla chorizo con papas(chorizo and potato) it was absolutely DELICIOUS! For 8.50 I had more than enough food– the quesadilla was packed full of spicy chorizo and potato cooked to perfection and it was topped with some«so tasty it should be illegal» crema. The presentation was really quite lovely with a small salad and radish on the side. The owners were lovely as well, and happy to serve some yummy eats, even at that late hour. I can’t wait to pay them a visit again! I’m getting up the courage to try the beef tongue tacos next. Check this truck out if you see it in your hood! Fingers crossed they stick around B’way and Steinway for a bit.
