I have been searching for a hair stylist on the upper east side for almost a year, and am thrilled with Jean at Thomas Taft Salon. I have tried a few other Bumble and Bumble salons in the area, and worked through stylists at each, and just wasn’t satisfied. Jean completely understood what I wanted within a few minutes, and definitely worked with my lifestyle and preferences. I have fairly straightforward typical South Asian hair (thick, and mostly straight), and also wanted bangs. I tend not to do much with my hair, either and wanted a low-​maintenance, but stylish haircut. Jean totally delivered and was also just lovely to spend an hour with. The salon itself has great hours, and the vibe is really relaxed, while still being upscale and stylish. I am so happy to finally have found a salon and stylist that fit!
Just a note: The salon only accepts cash for tips.

Recently moved to the UES and got the best haircut of my life (which is saying a LOT, my hair is crazy) from Jean at TTS!!! So excited to have a place to go regularly, something I haven’t had yet in my 4 years in the city… the salon itself is beautiful and quaint, super relaxing, and everyone (especially Kel at the front!) is so lovely! Can’t wait to go back and get blue highlights !!!

This is truly a wonderful hair salon in every way. The staff is welcoming, professional and helpful. Andrea, Kim, Tess and Kel are always there with a warm greeting that sets the tone for a lovely experience each and every time I go.
Shlomi, a master hair stylist, is the BEST hairdresser I have found in NYC. He is truly one-​of-​a-​kind — so talented and dedicated to his craft. I could not think of ever having someone else do my hair. I hope he stays there forever.

Thomas Taft Salon is a «find» for saavy New Yorkers who want their hair taken care of by pros. I highly recommend this Salon. I have nothing but accolades for Shlomi, as well.

Just left a haircut with Schlomi (spelling?). So disappointed. Firstly, as a new client he made zero effort to be friendly. More importantly though — we agreed that he would cut my hair shoulder length and he cut it about 2 inches ABOVE my shoulders. I did not ask for this and thought that as a «master stylist» he would know that what shoulder length is. When I expressed my disappointment he simply said — it looks good like that and makes you look younger. Veiled insult? Horrible experience and now I will wait and wait weeks until my hair grows out to the length I like it and had asked for it to be.

This place is the best! Always on time, friendly and super knowledgable. Taylor has cut my regular hair as well as hair with keratin bond extensions. She’s friendly, honest and very talented. She always listens to client concerns and requests while offering her expert opinion, too. I won’t be letting anyone else touch my hair as long as she is in business!

I’ve been going to TT for a year now and couldn’t be happier. I’m lucky enough to still have a good head of hair, so I needed the right person. Senior stylist Taylor has been a perfect fit.

Blondes DO have more fun!
I went to the Thomas Taft Salon because I wanted to go full platinum for the first time, and Tess did an amazing job! She was so friendly, so knowledgeable and she, as well as the whole staff was super hospitable. They made me feel right at home. My color is beyond what I expected and I couldn’t be happier!!! Thank you Tess!!!

Everyone here is amazing!!! I went to Shlomi to get a haircut and Taylor to do my color (highlights) and I haven’t been happier! My hair is very curly so I do not expect everyone to know how to handle it — trusting people with my curly hair is tough, but I was in the right hands! The staff is so welcoming and warm. Everyone here has their own skill set and everyone has something special to bring to their client. I would highly reccommend this salon to everyone, especially someone who wants something fun and unique! Not to mention Gus Gus is the cutest ever

Salon: A much needed hip little oasis on the UES. Décor is lovely, clean and fresh. Staff is very friendly and make you feel at home.
Stylist: (Taylor) Super friendly and upbeat, true pleasure to work with. She really listened and gave me exactly what I wanted. I was nervous about color since it had been years but she read my anxiety and gave me the most perfect subtle balayage. Couldn’t be happier with my cut/​color. Would HIGHLY recommend Taylor and the salon in general!

I have been coming to Thomas Taft Salon since it opened. It is the best place for haircuts, highlights, extensions and blowouts on the UES. I highly support this establishment and will never go anywhere else. I am very particular when it comes to my hair and when I go to this salon I know I will come out with the best hairstyle. All the stylists are wonderful but I personally love Melyssa, Laurie and Jean. This salon is owned by someone who actually has a passion for what she does and you can feel that as soon as you walk in.

Jean is so lovely! In addition to a great haircut, she taught me how I can easily style it at home. As she blew out my hair she gave me step by step instructions and tips which I found very helpful.

Melyssa and her team are really at the top of their game!
I’ve been a client /​friend for 10 years now, and followed Melyssa to her own salon, since opening. All of her folks we’re hand picked, and are genuine and really care for their clients. I visit from the UWS, and it’s worth — it as it’s a: clean, fun, bright, warm space as well as music are always a hit for me. You get what you pay for here, quality and a relationship moving forward. I would recommend Thomas Taft to anyone looking for a fresh cut, and or styling w/​top stylists on the very competitive UES.
