The Smith is always a good choice but you will need reservations for dinner — it gets pretty crazy once 6⁄630 rolls around. They make a great burger but the filet and ribeye pasta are good options as well! The burrata was really good but it was difficult with the bread provided to split among the group and the calamari was awesome(the spicy sauce that came with was a nice additional). I’ve never tried any of their cocktails(at 13.50 a pop, it’s a bit of a gamble) but the beer selection is great and reasonable! I’ve heard they have seasonal old fashions(or at least a winter one), which are supposed to be very good! The Smith is a great option if you’re looking for a trendy spot in Midtown!

Wish I could give more than 5 stars. Girlfriend and I came here two years in a row. Once on our first day, and last night for our 1 year anniversary. The hostess congratulated us, and gave us two glasses of bubbly on the house, and waitress congratulated us without us even saying! Everyone was INCREDIBLY friendly and nice. And the food. Oh man. The food. I had the brick pressed chicken, which was unbelievable. Will be back!

The Smith is a great brunch spot. It’s very spacious so good for a large group, but there is usually a long queue because it’s so popular. The scones were amazing — the perfect mixture of sweet and salty with candied bacon. We ordered the pot pie and were blown away. My only complaint was the pie was not big enough. It came with a cheddar biscuit crust that was delicious. We shared the entrée, but it’s small enough to eat solo too.

The Smith does NOT dissapoint. Brunch, lunch, dinner… you name it, youll enjoy it. Brunch: I went on a weekend and it was surprisingly not crazy packed which was odd because the food was unbelievable. I got the bacon egg and cheese on a croissant that was basically heaven, the french fries and lemon aioli did not dissapoint either. Dinner: I got a burger and fries and my friend got the vegetable bibimbap which sounds bizarre but looked amazing: rice, sunny side up egg(yolk porn), edamane, carrots and something spicy. ALSO cant go wrong with their famous mac and cheese appetizer. Staff was nice, space isnt too loud and there is a bar. What more could you ask for?

We came during the historic blizzard Jonas. That’s how determined we were to try this place. Saturday noonish we arrived and it was PACKED. However, we were promptly seated. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. I got the breakfast pot pie which was a bit rich, but good. The menu didn’t say there were mushrooms, but there definitely were. The boyfriend was satisfied with his steak and eggs as well. He said the steak was delicious, but eggs were average. We also got hot chips and blue cheese for the table which was amazing. I don’t usually like blue cheese but I was eating these nonstop. They also bring you two types of water, sparking and still, and they’re very attentive to when it needs to be refilled. This was a wonderful experience! The table next to us got dessert which looked phenomenal, I just didn’t think I could stuff down chocolate after brunch.

I came to The Smith for a 10a Saturday brunch with three friends. We had a reservation, which I would imagine is necessary, and were seated promptly in the spacious restaurant(seriously this place is big). A couple oysters to start and for our mains we had a French toast(two thumbs up), a BLT + egg with a side of grits(the grits were amazing apparently, the sand which was good), a burger(good) and an avocado sandwich(good). There was a small mixup when my friends avocado sandwich was delivered and it was actually avocado toast, but it was quickly corrected and we were given profuse(and unnecessary) apologies. All was well until we received the bill. There were a bunch of random things on our bill, including some cocktails we never ordered. After consulting with our server, he promised us that the items on the bill cost the same as what we ordered, so it was no big deal. After a few calculations, we realized there were two extra($ 11) cocktails on our bill. Once again we consulted with our server who corrected the bill, but that always rubs me the wrong way(since I’m typically irresponsible and just hand over my debit card without double checking the bill). Overall, I’d return, but expect hit or miss service.

I’m kind of over this place. If you want knock out mac and cheese though, do come here. It’s the second best I’ve had in NYC. Make reservations, go into the photo booth downstairs with your friends, skip the pricey medicinal cocktails.

The Smith is your classic American restaurant with all your classic options on the brunch, lunch, and dinner menus. If you’ve been to its sister restaurant, Jane, then you’ll notice that the menus are pretty similar, though the Smith does have a slightly less impressive selection of eggs benedicts. For Sunday brunch, definitely go on its website or opentable and make a reservation beforehand. This is NOT a joke, unless you’re willing to come right when the restaurant opens. I came in during primetime at 12:15, and the waiting area was chaotic. Even with a reservation, I waited nearly 5 minutes before getting a hostess’s attention. I love brunch, mainly because it is that one time of the week when I completely carboload without feeling awful. I ordered the Vanilla French Toast along with a complementary freshly squeezed orange juice(complementary boozy drinks are available as well!). The toast was delicious, very fluffy, not too sweet, not too heavy. For someone with a limit on sweets, the portion was definitely more sizable for sharing than for one. I would recommend splitting this dish, along with an eggs benedict, with a friend. The environment is loud due to the sheer number of people that the Smith has managed to fit into one room, so much so that I at times had difficulties hearing my friend from across the table.

The Smith was ok. I met up with a group of friends there for Saturday brunch and of course it was busy. There was a wait because it was a busy weekend but we had a party of 4 and we seemed to get passed over a lot, same number of people. When we finally did get seated the service was also pretty harried. The space was absolutely packed so it was definitely hard to get our server’s attention. The food was okay, I got the breakfast pot pie which was basically a hobo skillet/casserole mash up. It wasn’t too bad but still just okay, the shell for the pot pie was just kind of bland. I wasn’t going with any alcohol that morning so I had the strawberry basil lemonade which was good, not too sweet, not too basil-y and a good NA choice as a beverage. However, I wouldn’t want to come back here, there aren’t enough good reasons to outweigh the bad.

I was searching for some amazing brunch places in Manhattan and came across The Smith(which I have bookmarked for the longest time). We came here on a Sunday, and the wait time was actually decent! I was expecting a super long wait. The wait staff sent me a text when the table was ready. The restaurant itself is spacious and had a great chatty atmosphere. The service was good and they didn’t bother us too much when we decided to linger and chat after we finished our food. The beet batter string beans are the , you need to try these! I personally had the potato waffles, it definitely needed some more salt but overall was delicious. Looking for a cute brunch spot to go to on the weekends? Definitely give this place a try. **Overall, I recommend to friends and will come back. (Their s’mores dessert looked amaze-balls, but we were so full from our main dishes, we had no room for dessert :(… maybe next time!)

PROs + ambience is upscale yet casual + they have a photo booth* downstairs + unique bathroom** experience + complimentary sparkling and tap water CONs — food*** is mediocre and salty — service is slow * The photobooth pretty cramped even for 2 people but we were able to squeeze in and have our 4th group member stick his head in through the curtains. Not all of our faces made it into each frame but it was good fun. The photos come out in black-and-white so the first step of picking the red or blue curtain for background doesn’t make any sense.(2nd step is to swipe your credit card to pay $ 3 for 6 shots and then wait for the green light before each shot.) ** The unisex bathroom area is downstairs with private stalls and communal sinks. It does feel odd washing your hands next to the opposite sex(haha). All bathroom stalls have a red light above the door to indicate it is in use, which is pretty handy. They also have two unserviced shoe shining stations for seats. *** We had their squash rings, calamari, and spinach for appetizers/sides and their porterhouse for two and seafood paella for entrees. The food was mediocre and overloaded with salt! The porterhouse was expensive($ 90) and small for its quality.

Overall very good. Good atmosphere and décor. Friendly service. Lots of ppl even mid week. Lots of seating but still recommend making a reservation. Dinner: * calamari(liked the sauce a lot) * salmon tartare(5 pieces: very good) * pork rib chop — bomb. Better than steak! Juicy + flavorful * pasta cabatelli ragu — good, but not mind blowing * apple crumb pie — a bit disappointing. Couldn’t taste the apples but ice cream was very good. deduct .5 because they didn’t give us the free bread and butter in the cute bag. Everyone else got one! And then some more if u sit long enough. Deduct another .5 because the bathroom flooded. The staff was quick to clean it and fix it.

Solid brunch spot. More spacious than its East Village counterpart, although I like the rustic décor of that one better. Dishes are creative and I usually have a hard time narrowing it down to one entrée. Slightly disappointed that the glazed donuts don’t come with the chocolate sauce anymore(because who’s counting calories at this point, right?) but our server brought us out some when we asked. Most brunch entrees come with a complimentary cocktail. Hope you like your blood Mary’s spicy because these guys don’t mess around. Service is friendly and I’ve always been seated right away with a reservation. Highly recommend if you’re looking for some high quality food in a casual atmosphere.

I made a reservation on a Wednesday for Saturday morning brunch and had my pick of times. I would definitely recommend making a reservation. When we arrived around 11:30, it was packed and the wait for walk-ins was 45 minutes. With our reservation, we breezed right in and were seated nearly immediately. Given this extensive menu, there should be something for everybody. I couldn’t help but order the rancheros scramble… I just love Mexican-inspired breakfast! The egg dish was solid and, like all of the other dishes, the portion was incredibly large. Brunch entrees are $ 17-$ 18 which is on the pricey side but worth it for the ease of having a restaurant with something for everybody.

I’ve been here for brunch with the fam. Asian parents approved, which definitely makes The Smith a winner in my book. It’s really hard to find ‘American’ restaurants that my parents enjoy. Brunch is always really busy here, so make a reservation if at all possible! I’ve also ordered delivery from The Smith multiple times, especially when I’m just craving fat with a side of saturated fat. topped with more saturated fat. Seriously, best comfort food, ever. Portions are huge, and although the meal is 2x what you’d pay at another burger place down the street, it is worth every penny. I consciously make the decision to spend that much more money on my burger because I know that it will satisfy my craving. :9

I came here for a breakfast meeting a couple of weeks ago. This is a great place to go for a meeting as it is a reasonably nice place and is not super busy at breakfast time. It definitely beats a lousy, overpriced hotel restaurant. We got a variety of things, but I got the egg white omelet. It was really good. It was made with goat cheese and spinach — very tasty. It also came with roast potatoes. All very tasty, tasty. The portions were pretty good as well, nothing so massive that you either couldn’t finish it or regretted finishing it. Everyone seemed happy with the food. I will say that the coffee was really weak. Quite a few people were complaining about it. I am not a coffee snob, but it was noticeably bad. The service was pretty good. Our server was friendly and attentive, but we did have to wait for a long time for our food. I would definitely recommend The Smith for a breakfast meeting.

This place hit the spot ! I was trying to find a spot after getting out of a party at the UN. So found the Smith wondering all over Nyc. The place looked great so we decided to come in. It just felt great. The atmosphere is quite pleasant or upbeat. Décor here was all unique, the lighting to even the crazy bathroom signs(check out the pictures) n stalls. It made for a memorable time aesthetically. Service here was great, the servers were great with recommendations and right on time with the food and drinks;). The potato chips/wedges were quite a hit at the table, as they were devoured the fast3st. Ordered quite a few appetizers and a burger. Everything was good, except for I felt the burger was just standard. Prices were decent we are in NYC right :) Overall I would definitely come back, great time with great company!

Decent weekday lunch destination if you are in the Midtown East. Gets crazy busy from hours of 12 – 2 pm. Men and women in suits from midtown east like to descend, eat, and leave at 2pm. Definitely do not recommend their Saivignon Blanc from Loire Valley. Tastes like grape juice with a splash of wine and had no depth of flavor. Their Tuna burger looked bland, like ground canned tuna with fillers. Their lobster roll was decent. Chunks of lobster in a ¾ hot dog bun. The seasoning was missing some lemon but the lobster portion was filling. (As it should be if you paid $ 27 for a roll). My friend enjoyed her cocktail. Maybe I should have got the Sweet Heat instead.

The Food and drinks were good. This location was packed on a Sunday evening, but we made a reservation on open table so We were seated right away. We tried the salmon dish, the shrimp dish and the pressed chicken. We shared the dishes and all were delicious. Waitress was attentive and personable, however, the busing staff was rushing us out, grabbing plates and glasses off the table, repeatedly asking us if we were done, and just really very over zealous in that regard. There were several bussers working in our section with seemingly no schedule or timing just random, over the top interruptions of our meal. We were not lingering and ordered an appetizer in addition to our meal but no dessert. –1 star for noise. They really should put panels between the room sections to reduce the noise. It was so loud we had trouble holding a conversation at the table. Overall good experience here! We will definitely be back!

Our plans were fluid so we were suddenly in need of brunch reservations, on a Saturday morning. The Smith(along with Unilocal and Open Table) came to our rescue. Close to our hotel, the restaurant is expansive, covering several large rooms; airy, opened windows welcomed in the summer, and cordial. We discussed various options and upcoming reservations before making our final selections. Cognizant of the long day ahead, I went with a more robust lunch, a lobster roll with restaurant made, crunchy potato chips flavored with old bay seasonings. I loved the large chunks of lobster meat in the light lemon mayo, served on a soft brioche bun. Equally good were the jalapeño cheddar grits. The spicy and cheesy grits were soft, thick and creamy, with the consistency of oatmeal. The large serving could easily feed four. We also could not get enough of the Brussels sprouts. Crispy and bitter, we inhaled multiple spoonfuls of this side. For dessert, I went with the Brooklyn Blackout Cake. The moist cake featured a chocolate pudding center, served along with a small vanilla malted shake. Every dish that I tasted was great here and service was friendly and helpful.
