I have never really been a fan of dentists, but we have to see them, so I would grit my teeth and bear it. I’ve now seen Dr. Shimshi twice, once for cleaning and once for follow-up cavity filling. Dr. Shimshi is AMAZING, and her staff is the best. She is literally the best dentist I have ever seen in my life. I have never been to a dentist that is SO gentle, and really personable, and just an all out nice person. She takes the time to get to know you, and talk about other issues that could be related to your teeth problems like TMJ disorders or acid reflux(turns out I have both and didn’t really know it…). During my cleaning, she was slow and precise and didn’t jab my gums with any of the instruments. When the tech was taking x-rays, she was super careful to make sure that I was comfortable with the crummy hard things that they have to put in your mouth. I recently also had a few fillings, which did require drilling off the old ones, and Dr. Shimshi was so patient and was very attentive to my comfort levels. I had to get the novocaine shots for numbing and she was just obviously an expert, knowing exactly where to put the needle, etc, not just stabbing random places in my gums and jaw. I don’t know if she’s just better at dosing it, but all of my previous dentist visits that required the novocaine I remember having a numb face for the entire rest of the day — drool city. She only used enough to get the job done, and I was back to a normal, non-drooling state two hours later. I’ve also never had the experience where the staff was like, «hey, nice haircut!» the next time they see you. They are just really helpful and perky and you can tell that they actually like their job, probably because they have a nice boss like Dr. Shimshi. 100% A+++ totally recommending her to everyone I know.

AWFUL experience here. I understand that doctors like to milk insurance companies for as much money as possible, but she charged such a ridiculous amount that I went over my yearly max and ended up having to pay over $ 650 out of pocket. She billed $ 705 for just a regular cleaning and x-rays, and $ 400PER filling. Basically you’re screwed if you need to get any other dental work done because she will VERY quickly use up your max. And good luck if you go over. She gave me a «discount» and I still have to pay $ 650+. How generous.
