Such a cute place with great atmosphere, but the food was just ok. I had the quinoa salad and was left disappointed and hungry.

Food was fine I asked for no dill on something which they put on anyway no biggie. Service was terrible lady was completely unfriendly. Never came to check on us other than to take orders. Over all it’s a cool place but there are way better spots to go for a similar price point and vibe.

Came here for brunch on Sunday and it was mercifully not crowded. Cool and dark, which was very nice on the sweltering hot day. My friend and I both had the eggs with toast and greens; he had sausage and I had bacon. The bacon was probably some of the best I’ve had in my life — it was incredible. Service is slightly overbearing — I think we were asked three times throughout our 20-minute meal how everything was, and then our plates were cleared very quickly. But would come back if I was in the area and needed that bacon!

Absolutely love the atmosphere! What a fantastic vibe. Makes me want to sit, drink coffee, and read all day! We had breakfast which was delish. Definitely recommend the yogurt with stewed rhubarb.

Oh dear. The Smile should be renamed The Grimace, for no happy feelings are to be had at this establishment. We were seated by a hostess at one of those high top tables nudged between the server station and a brick portico, despite the fact that there were at least four empty regular tables. «Oh, we have reservations coming in at 8:30» the monotone hostess announced. Nay, dear hostess, it was but 6:45 in the evening, and we told you we were trying to catch a movie, and that we’d be out by 8PM. So we sat in our little perch, whereupon the air-conditioning started to drip, but we chalked this up to NoHo«authenticity.» We were ignored for the next thirty minutes. When our food arrived(there were so many alterations to the menu, that the menu was virtually not what it was), our understanding of just why this restaurant is so mediocre entirely crystallized. Let’s talk about the dip platter with crudités: dips that masquerade as hummus and red pepper some such, with the kind of carrot sticks you might see at a hotel conference buffet line. For $ 15. And cold lentil-cucumber purée, which I simply refer to as cucumber mud mask soup, which arrived in the most unappealing of presentations, and which was, to our dismay, the main course. This was spa food, but without the spa. Don’t even bother.

extremely cute place! and food was extremely good imo. had the date brisket and it was just the right amount of sweetness. quinoa and lentils is nice and refreshing, poached egg is a nice touch! only issue was the waitresses are pretty rude ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it almost feel like they just want us to get up and leave.

Food is amazing! Feels like you walked into an old timey, brownstone basement from 100 years ago. Service is excellent, atmosphere is chill. Had the baked eggs which were perfect and moist banana bread was delicious. Will definitely be back!

God I love this place. It was a secret my concierge at my hotel passed on to me during my first trip to NY. At that time they were not even on Unilocal(that i could find). Its a(Literally) hidden gem. it’s hard to find but amazingly worth it. Their bacon is the best i’ve ever had(Drake Voice) and i will actually cry if i come to NY and don’t stop here. The food is good, the venue is nice and cozy. Its one of my favorite things about New York.

Came here for a nice dinner Meatballs were great COD was a little bit bland but brisket was on point and the portions are a good size Best thing about this place isn’t just the food– it’s def the service A friend spilt some wine by accident and before we could even think of another glass, a lady came and brought her a new one! Super friendly! Our waitress was super cute, she even made the extra effort to introduce the next server as her shift had ended during our meal! We def left with a smile :)

I would come back in a heartbeat — everything we tried was great(I really loved the meatballs and the brussels sprouts). The server also told us when we had ordered enough(and it was the right amount, which I was really grateful for). I feel like often I can’t necessarily trust those recommendations.

The Smile is a casual/modern eatery with an interesting array of American cuisine options. You can kill time at the bar while you wait for your table. We made a reservation. The food was good– we had a fresh cheese, fruit, and crackers plate to start. I had the Kale, Avocado, and Sweet potato salad with turmeric dressing. I have tried to recreate it since but I just can’t get it right. My other friend had the baked chicken and another friend had the brisket. We were all satisfied with the food.

More like The Frown, where beggars can’t be choosers. Honestly, I’m struggling to write this review bc my experience was so bad(food is what is forcing me to add an extra star). I came for dinner with 2 friends on a Wednesday evening based on a couple recommendations from others. From the moment we sat down, we knew it was going to be bad. A girl stopped by to tell us the specials, which was confusing because we literally had JUST sat down and hadn’t even looked at a drink menu yet. One minute later another girl stopped by to tell us the specials. Then literally like 30 seconds later, the same(second) girl came back to ask, pretty abruptly, if we knew what we wanted to drink. At this point, we’ve been approached 3 times and have spent less than 1 minute looking at the menu. I kind of laughed when she asked and was like no, we just sat down we’re not ready yet. Well game on, now we’re in trouble. Said waitress literally did not come back to our table for almost 15 minutes. Luckily we were wrapped up in conversation so the night was not lost at this point. She took our drink order and we asked about the meatball app. She explained that the small had 5 and was served with bread and the large had 8 and was served… with something else I can’t remember. We asked if they were able to do 6 for a charge, since we were 3, and she instantaneously laughed and was like NO, ITS5OR8. Well ok, great, we’ll take 5. I’m totally fine with a restaurant being firm on portions, but at least pretend like you care. Meatballs arrived a few minutes later, with 2 pieces of bread, and they were tiny(meatballs were decent sized). We started eating, of course the meatballs and bread were delicious… thank god. We grabbed a different server to ask if we could get more bread, since we noticed all the tables around us had bread on the table pretty much from the start. A long time later, still no bread, so we asked again. By the time the bread came it was actually laughable. Beggars of bread cannot be choosers of bread. You get it when you get it! For entrees, I had the lemon spaghetti which was cooked absolutely perfectly, and the basil running through was the perfect touch. One friend had the same, and the other had the quinoa and lentils which she said was very good. We were not checked on once by our waitress, during the app or most of the entrée, and all we wanted was to order more drinks. She finally stopped by when all of our glasses were long empty and we were finally able to order another with about 2 bites left of dinner. Forget water being refilled. We ended with the banana dessert which was yummy. I’m pretty sure we ordered it just to annoy the waitress(but it was tasty). I can’t remember the last time I encountered a server that literally might as well have just stood at the table rolling her eyes for an hour. If you are in the service industry and expect a tip, then don’t act like I’m offending you by asking questions and ordering things. Getting the check was another production, and we just wanted to GTFO of there. I will note, the gentleman who brought our food was very friendly, we debated dropping cash into his apron on the way out. Overall, if you want shitty service and good food you should come to The Smile, but don’t expect one :-)

Cute interiors. Good service. Apple almond bread is moist and full of almond flavor and slices of apples. Dutch baby pancakes are so good, I never wanted it to end. It was crowded when we went(11:30am on a Sunday) but we got a seat right away at the high top.

Visited the smile while on vacation and wanted a cute brunch spot for our anniversary. We visited twice while on our trip and got seated right away both times(went on a Thursday & Monday). Also, our food came out very fast! Everything we had was great. Both times my husband got the scrambled eggs breakfast with the addition of bacon and cheese. He said it was the best bacon he had ever had. The second time it was a bit over cooked though. I got an iced mocha both times and thought it was very nice. I would’ve preferred a bit more chocolate but I still enjoyed it very much. My first time I got the soup they had as the special. I believe it was a curry lime soup. I loved it but if I was very hungry I would wished it was bigger or that it came with something on the side. The second time I got the scrambled eggs breakfast with the addition of avocado and cheese. I used my avocado to make avocado toast and it was a very simple great breakfast. We both wished that it came with potatoes or fruit instead of greens though. We sat in the back and got one of the front window seats. Both locations were comfortable and just as cute. Well the window is a bit better of course. Overall it was a great experience both times and I would definitely recommend this place and visit again!

Well, I think this place is hyped way too much. The place itself is really dark. Some will like it, but I don’t. My breakfast was pretty decent though. I had an amazing granola with Greek yogurt and fruit. Really delicious. Coffee was only mediocre. In a city with so many choices I would rather pick another dining destination.

After a long arduous work week, I needed a cool down with a friend. Rustic English cottage setting with rustic wooden tables and restroom facilities labeled«WC» for water closet. The kitchen is not open until 6 pm for a full fledge dinner but afternoon intermezzo snacks are available. With a party of two neither of us highly desired a full fledge meal which worked out perfectly. My main goal was to attain relief from summer’s blazing hot sun, sit in stillness in the comfort of an air condition environment and a restroom facility available. Our waitress was serving overly attentive. With a friend we engulfed the goat cheese olive oil garlic with bread $ 8.00. The goat cheese was fresh and very filling. Cocktail drinks as Pimms are available which enhances an English setting. No alcohol for either of us. Their business cards are printed in traditional Letterpress 1⁄0 in a Pantone Cool Grey color to coordinate their traditional English theme and duplexed with another paper to hide the scaring on the reverse side. I LOVE Letterpress printing!

I went to the Smile for dinner and was unfortunately underwhelmed. This is one of the better-known restaurants in NoHo so I had pretty high expectations. I wanted to love it! The food was just OK. Portions were relatively small for the price. I rarely leave a restaurant feeling hungry, but even after an appetizer and entrée I didn’t feel completely satiated. Surprisingly, I wasn’t a big fan of the ambiance. I went on a cold winter day, and while it was warm inside, it also felt dark and gloomy! It was also very loud, so I had trouble hearing my mother at dinner. Possibly a better choice for brunch or warmer weather. There was nothing bad about the Smile but I just had higher expectations.

I went during the mid afternoon. Absolutely love the dimly-lit, cozy atmosphere. The Smile sure has character. The staff was really nice and friendly. I was greeted immediately upon entering. I had lunch there on a weekday afternoon with a friend and it was pretty quiet. Just perfect for me. Was the perfect place for us to review some business ideas over some iced coffee and lemonade. The Fresh Ricotta & Cherry Tomatoes with olive oil & sea salt on multi-grain toast looked really delicious, as did the maple thyme bacon. I’m definitely trying those next time I’m there. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Returned again for another meal. This time during early afternoon(lunch time) and it was quite busy and moderately loud. Still a great meal and great service. The hostess always seems cheerful and has a very personable way about her. Love it. I’ll be back again! :-)

Oh, The Smile. How you make ME smile! :) My favorite spot in NoHo to have breakfast/brunch. Such a cute and rustic space! A great place to meet up with friends, just because. The ambience here is just buzzing with creative types. Love! And yes, this place is happening. The food is always good here. The Baguette French Toast with strawberries is delicious as well as the Buckwheat Waffles with blueberry compote and orange cream. I love that they serve real maple syrup, mmm. It’s nice to know that they support locally and try to be sustainable. That’s a plus in my book. Oh and if you fancy a pot of tea, they carry Mariage Frères tea from France! YAY! The staff is really nice here and the service has always been top notch. No complaints here. Unilocalers, I hope they make YOU smile! :)
