Tip — go to the Malt house hungry! Really cozy bar, nice spot for ‘hipsters’ or where the cool people hang out :) The cocktails were very good! The food portions were huge. It was very busy for a Friday night but everywhere in new York is busy on a Friday. We had reservations so we were lucky to get a table, there were walk-ins and they had to wait a long while to get a table. Verdict — I loved the oysters, they were very good and I got the salmon po boy for my main and couldn’t finish it. The Malt house is on my list of places to dine the next time I visit NY.

Brunch at the Malt House Saturday. Ordered a cheeseburger medium rare, Very tasty. Came with a runny egg on the top which made it messy but delicious. The fries were an underrated aspect of the plate. Awesome place.

Went there to watch the game but no sound was on. Still, had some beers and got to know the Bartender, Allan. He was super nice and my bf enjoyed our stay until we went next door to watch the game. I’ll be back for one of the endless mimosa brunches!

Nice, little, cozy place to have a conversation over good beer. The place was packed around 6 on a weeknight with folks who seemed like locals(young professionals who got off work). Only regret? Didn’t have time to check out the food here. Bartenders were really helpful. No issues ordering(they call out for you so you don’t have to).

I meet my friend here to catch up. The environment was fun, a little noisy and somewhat dark… but I guess this is how most Gastropubs??? It was hard to hear my friend speak, so that’s my only con. Service is fast and friendly, though.

Why Come Here? Great bar food and beer selection in Greenwich Village, excellent Burger The part of the village south of Washington Square Park is an odd mix. The area is almost exclusively made up of 1) very good casual restaurants and 2) bars you haven’t stepped foot in since you were 23(at least so you tell your friends). As such, you might not be quite sure which of these categories an American Tavern called The Malt House fits into. But I assure you, it’s about there are no beer pong tables or $ 10 pitchers of Bud Light to be found there. Instead the bar at The Malt House instead serves a very adult selection of whiskeys and craft beers. They offer a rotating selection of 24 American brews on draft and you try four of them at a time for a mere $ 10. Obviously I went through several flights and my current favorites are the Bluepoint Mosaic IPA and Smuttynose Winter. Whiskey also is available in flight format with four pours coming in at a very reasonable $ 25. But The Malt House is much more than a place to get your booze on. They have brought in Chef Armando Avila — formerly of STK and 5 Napkin Burger — to whip up a menu of some of the best drinking food NYC has to offer. At Happy Hour you can enjoy some of these bites with craft beer around the L-shaped bar at half off or more. But the rustic dining room is a great spot to spine too with exposed brick walls, antique iron chandeliers and leather banquettes. If you’re looking for the perfect food to pair with whiskey or beer in the village, The Malt House should be your first stop. As I was here for a press dinner I sampled a good portion of the menu. My favorite are below: Cheese Curds — Big hunks of chewy white cheddar in a light panko fry. These are the perfect pairing to your obligatory beer flight. BFG Wings — The BFG stands for Baked, Fried and Grilled. While the first two are typical, the taste of the grill is what makes these stand out. Some of my favorite wings in the city, even if they are a little light on the buffalo sauce. Pickles & Beer & Bacon Battered Onion Rings — I’m putting these together because they’re both done in similar ale frys and come with ranch and Malt House sauce(a Thousand Island-like dip). On both the fry job was perfectly light and crispy and I loved the flavor of the batter. You can’t go wrong with either filling. Mussels — At some point your body might tell you to order something that isn’t fried. These mussels with chorizo in a white wine & tomato broth are a great lighter option. Mahi Mahi Tacos — The fish is(thankfully) not fried but grilled. It comes in a tangy tomatillo relish with black beans and cilantro. It’s a refreshing change of pace from the rest of the menu that still packs a lot of flavor. Burger — Chef Armando’s prowess with beef from his time at STK and 5 Napkin clearly shows in the signature burger. The meat is a flavorful blend of chuck, brisket and short rib that was cooked to a perfect medium rare. It’s topped with bacon and an onion marmalade. This is a must order.

I like to go there at happy hour time! They have 1 $ oysters and there not to many people at that time. You can seat talk and relax. But in the night time it’s very difficult to find a place to seat and it’s very loudly(for me)

Came here for happy hour before catching a comedy show at the comedy cellar. Was very quiet at first and nice to be able to chat intimately. By 620 it had completely filled up and the vibe was great. The staff were nice friendly and attentive to my table and our needs. My happy hour favorites were the fried pickles, chicken tacos and fries. The chicken dippers we got weren’t the best, they were just deep fried batter with not much chicken or taste. Definitely will be back.

I came here to celebrate the end of finals with classmates, under the impression that our Professor was going to buy first round. Yea, that didn’t happen, but my friend was still nice enough to buy us a round of beers. The bar area is quite cramped and I found myself wedged in the corner of the L-shaped bar for the duration of the night. It was fine for the time being, but if I’d stayed any longer than an hour, I would have felt majorly claustrophobic. I do think the dining area is a bit more spacious, but I never got the chance to wander that way. Their happy hour prices are fantastic — although we’d missed it by then — and they have a good selection of beers on tap. I haven’t tried the food yet, but I might head back if I’m in the mood for a burger or something of the like. :)

Malt House is a great spot in FiDi for after work drinks or dinner. BF and I actually live downtown so this is quickly becoming our go-to spot for a casual weekday dinner. Beer list is huge, and the food is also very good. The truffle fries are dope(obviously, they’re truffle fries). The club sandwich also hits the spot. Can get loud as hell, but food and drink are great.

I came to this cool village joint for a press dinner(free). The interior is like an old world tavern, with lots of exposed brick, warm tones and wood beams on the ceiling. The beer selection is really great, both on tap and in bottles/cans. Chef Armando cut his teeth at STK and Five Napkin Burger before taking on the executive chef role at both this Malt House location and the newly opened, massive Financial District location. The bar room is really well apportioned, with an L-shaped stretch that also has some tabletop seating nearby. At happy hour they offer nice food selections and cheap drink options, along with dollar oysters! There’s also a full menu at the bar for the other eats, and they offer flights of beer(four for $ 10), American whiskey and Scotch whisky. Here’s what we had on our press tasting: All the apps came out on a big platter, with the exception of the mussels, of course: The onion rings had a nice bacon flavor to them. They were fluffy without being too bready, and the onion inside was cooked through. The baked, fried and grilled wings were excellent — the best of the«fried stuff,» for sure. They had a mild buffalo spiced roquefort sauce on them, but that didn’t take away any of the crisp to the skin. One of the more unique items on the menu is the fried cheese curds. You just don’t see them all that much around here. They were like small bite-sized bits of «cheese sticks,» only less melty and more airy and bready. The fried pickles were crispy as hell! They were sliced paper thin first, and then battered and fried. These went nicely with the homemade ranch sauce. The ranch sauce, by the way, was the best of the three sauces we had(the other two: a house sauce that was similar to thousand island, and a chipotle mayo). The star of the openers, however, was the crock of mussels that were steamed in a sauce made from roasted tomatoes, chorizo, garlic, herbs(rosemary, for one) and white wine. Delicious. Chef Armando hits back to back home runs with the burger and the mahi mahi tacos when it comes to the entrees. The burger is a blend of short rib, chuck and brisket that makes for a tender, juicy and superbly flavorful patty of beef. Topped with onion marmalade, pickles, bacon, lettuce, red onion and cheese, you really can’t go wrong. The fries on the side, however, were a little bit lacking in comparison to the incredible burger. Not as crispy as I like, and a little heavy on the grease flavor. The truffle fries had a better crisp to them, but I didn’t get much of the truffle flavor, and they were cut a little thicker than I like for French fries. The tacos are super refreshing, with really nicely cooked fish and fresh ingredients. I’d definitely go back for these. We seriously tasted an astonishing amount of food on this press event. Next was the open-faced strip steak sandwich on a French baguette, topped with melty gruyère, red onion and arugula. The steak was pre-sliced but thick, making it good for the open-faced, knife-and-fork format. The lobster mac and cheese was topped with a generous portion of lobster claw and tail meat, and it had the flavor of truffle soil to bring some earthiness into the dish. We even tried a salad with grilled chicken. Pretty good. It was nicely dressed and the chicken breast was perfectly cooked. For dessert, we sampled both the crème brûlée and the chocolate cake. My favorite between the two was the crème brûlée. It was smooth and creamy, nice and evenly textured. The chocolate cake was served warm, with a scoop of house made vanilla on the side. The cake was slightly dry, but the ice cream was a good way balance that: eat some ice cream with each bite of cake, and problem solved. But what can I say: The Cake Dealer really spoils me when it comes to cake and bake. To sum up: I’ll definitely be back here for some drinks, burgers and tacos. Great shit. Awesome US craft beer selection(like Bourbon County) that rotates out often, and excellent burgers. Most likely I will come for happy hour and indulge in some dollar oysters too.

This place is just packet with history. From the brick and mason construction. Beautiful robot ted steel beams and and 1920s(I think) cash register. Very cool vibe with the beer taps installed in the original old pipes from the building. They did a fine job building it out and keeping the architecture full of detail and warmth. The food pretty good I ate at the bar good eggs and s croque Madame both very tasty. The potatoes were tater tots! I love a great tot every now and then. I had only brunch though the full menu looks very tasty. Check this place out have a beer and a tot you won’t be disappointed!

No wait And we were an hour early for our reservation. A bit loud, but comfy atmosphere. Variety of beers on draft. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and ate from the brunch menu. Delicious Grilled Cheese and Eggs Benedict. No complaints.

While walking from St. Marks to TriBeCa, we walked by this place and decided to pop in for a drink. We had a whiskey flight which was great, but we couldn’t have a conversation at all because of how loud it was. It wasn’t even that crowded so I’m not sure why the volume was at that level.

I really wanted to like this place — who can resist a bottomless brunch drinks deal for a decent price? While the mimosas and peach bellinis were wonderful, I have to say I’m disappointed in the food service. My cousin and I both had to send our food back upon receiving it. My scramble did not have the fillings I had requested and her eggs benedict came with egg shells. When we received our order the second time around, I was missing my side salad and she was missing her toast. Our waitress was FANTASTIC and did everything she could to make our experience better than we were having. She made sure we always had full drinks and was extremely friendly. However, the lack of organization and food preparation is a huge reason why I will not be returning here again.

Clean, quick bar service, and jiving with suited Happy Hour folks. This stop in SoHo was a nice find while I was waiting for my commute back to Philadelphia. Plus, Golden Monkey AND90 Minute IPA served in a mason jar?! So totally coming back. My goal next time is to get here a bit earlier so I can nosh on some fried pickles and take in the candlelight ambiance. To be continued, Malt House, til then, keep being a solid spot.

We stumbled upon The Malt House on our walk around the West Village & we could not have been more pleasantly surprised. It was around 3am and there was not a whole lot left open, we walked in and were greeted with a warm welcome from the bartender. We asked if we were keeping them open and he let us know that they are open until 4am every night! WHAT?! YES! Right away we fell in love with the atmosphere. Beautiful exposed brick, beer served in mason jars and cute little tea lights graced each table. We sat in a cozy corner booth and had some beers. It was very romantic and one of my favorite memories from our time in NY — indeed the city that never sleeps. Highly recommend this place!
