Went here on a Thursday around 530 and was seated right away. It didn’t start to get busy until after 630. Service and food was great. For appetizer we had the calamari, Cajun fries, catfish basket all really good esp the catfish. Between three women, we shared two combos the crayfish and lobster in butter and garlic sauce. This sauce is so good you end up wanting put your straw in and drinking it(kinda did lol) 2nd combo was the dungeness crab and crawfish in same sauce also really dam good. Overall, food is orgasmic!

Real talk, I don’t know how I thought I was living a happy life before I came here. All you need to do is make sure you get the boil sauce, make it spicy, and take your time to savor the flavor. Cash only — there is an atm no Reservations — worth the wait Come hungry!

The Boil is hands down my favorite restaurant in the city. I have been here about 30 times in the past year. My boyfriend and I have been here so often that the people who work here welcome us back. Whenever I’m feeling stressed, sad, celebratory, or just really hungry, my boyfriend takes me here. The service is always on point. The food comes out almost immediately after you order and staff is always so nice and friendly. My usual order is a catfish basket to start off, and two pounds of snow crab with the boil special sauce(spicy). The catfish is always fried to perfection and the Cajun fries that come with it are seasoned deliciousness. I have tried every seafood option on the menu and my go-to is usually snow crab. It is delicious and the best bang for your buck. Their seafood is consistently so fresh and their boil special sauce is flavorful, savory and addicting. I’ve been to CajunSea and Claw Daddy’s, and I regretted ever wasting my money at any other Cajun seafood place than the Boil. If you’re craving some amazing spicy seafood, look no further.

Great place to visit on a weekday. This place gets PACKED, but for good reason. The snow crab legs were priced well and if you get more than two pounds of them, they’ll include some potatos and corn. The mac and cheese here is an absolute MUST. One of the best under $ 10 mac n cheeses that I’ve ever had. The cocktails here are done well and the beer selection is excellent. I sort of like the«other» place better, but I’d rather not mention names :).

SOYUMMY. SOYUMMY. SOYUMMY. My only complaint here is that when my friend ordered a drink that he really hated, they refused to change it. Other than that the food is great. The crowd can be a little unruly at times so I would recommend going earlier in the evening and during the week. Cash only.

Love the boil special sauce!!! It’s the bomb!!! Lots of garlic and butter. Get it with medium spice and it’s even better! I usually get the shrimp but snow crab legs and clams are good too. The crawfish are not worth it cause of the cost and time to get what little meat there is. If you order any of the combos or 2lbs of any of the same item in the same sauce, it comes with potatoes and corn. The Cajun fries and fried catfish are pretty good as well. They give you bibs and gloves so that you don’t get yourself all dirty. Also beware that you and your clothes will smell afterwards. Make sure you bring cash cause they do not accept credit cards. There is an atm machine right in front if you should need one and it charges a $ 2.50 fee.

We came here on 7:30PM Friday night. The total time we waited was around 2 hours. Was it worth the wait? Yes totally. We ordered a Combo A with 1 pound crawfish and 1 pound shrimp with the boil special sauce in medium. We ordered extra corn and 2 sides of rice. They give you plastic gloves here which is great because the smell is so hard to wash off your hands other wise. The sauce is so scrumptious and from that moment we tried it, we were in love. We’ve tried a couple of places in the past similar to the boil and the sauces were either overboiled or not flavorful enough, BUT that was not the case here. With every bite we took of the shrimp/crawfish we dunked it into the sauce. Remember this restaurant is cash only, though there is an ATM inside. We are both looking forward to coming back again!

I love this place! It’s really good and has fair prices. They opened a second location 20 minutes away. There’s usually a line out the door around 6 to 8. So be prepared to wait if you go at that time. The seating is tight, you are close to your neighbors, and the high chairs are really high to me. Lol. I suggest the regular table then the high chairs because the high chair table is just too small for anything. It felt too crowded. The first 2 times I ate here was perfect, this time the sauce wasn’t as great and the crawfish was blehh. Still good but mehh. I rather go here when I’m in NYC though, I have tried other places in NYC for crawfish but didn’t like it as much as this one. Enjoy!

I would be a crawfish just to be boiled in their sauce! This place is amazing! The Boil is located off Delancy and is quite easy to get to by subway. The wait wasn’t terrible considering how busy this place is. We waited less than half an hour for a party of two. We started with the Fried Softshell Crab basket. The crab was fried perfectly and well seasoned. They were on a small side, portion wise but the taste more than makes up for it. The crab was served on top of a bed of Cajun Fries. We loved the Cajun Fries so much that we ordered it right after. The fries were crispy with all the cajun spices on it, but weren’t overly salted which is a problem most places have. Moving on to the main course, we got two pounds of the snow crab legs and one pound of the crawfish, all cooked in The Boil Special sauce and mild. After putting on all the protective safety wear(bibs and gloves), we got to work on them. I was blown away by the flavors. Quoting Guy Fieri, it took me on a trip to Flavortown! The snow crab legs were cooked perfect. Not overcooked at all. The meat was tender and sweet. Since we ordered two pounds of the snow crab, it came with potatoes and corn all cooked in the special sauce. The crawfish were fresh and huge. The crawfish meat was cooked beautifully, having a little spring in it and not mushy at all which happens to places that cook it too long. Both meats absorbed the sauce but if you are like me, there was enough sauce in the bottom of the bag to dip each bite in. For the price we paid for the snow crab legs($ 20/lb) and crawfish($ 15/lb), you simply can’t beat that, especially in NYC. We were seated at the bar which turned out perfect for us. The bar seats had much more room than the tables for two. We ordered from the bartender which was great, since he was always in front of us and put in our orders quickly. The servers even put the bibs on for you. Food was served quickly and they quickly dumped out our trash buckets. My first experience here was truly a wonderful treat. I am definitely coming back here. I don’t even mind that I m going to have garlic breath for the next few days. Worth it!

No doubt the food is good but there are consequences when you walk out of The Boil!!! It will leave your stomach feeling queasy and greasy but I had no choice because my friends wanted to celebrate her birthday there. They all warned me about the uncomfortable feeling I will get, so I prepared a week in advanced and stay committed to becoming a vegetarian for a week. I’m glad I’ve been eating mainly just salads before I had this delicious but deadly creole Cajun seafood, otherwise I would have gained 10 pounds or so. Now, enough of the nonsense. Honestly speaking the size of the shrimp and snow crab were huge and filling. However, you might want to skip the clams because the shells were heavy and the meat all fell out of the clams. Our table ordered 12lbs of seafood with the garlic butter and the boil sauce. All the sauces taste great but was a little too oily and salty for my liking. You can either be in heaven or hell when consuming the food. I thought I was in heaven when I first took a bite and then if you were like me, I got too greedy and started feasting on those shrimps and crabs. and before I knew it… I felt like I was in hell, my stomach didn’t feel so well. I went home and took 3x poo and the shrimp really got to me, I ended up curling like a shrimp in bed. Even the next morning I felt sick. No more boil for me until next year. Just a warning, if you ever do consider eating it, don’t eat too much.

This place is amazing! I gave it 5 stars due to the following: 1. Location: Smack in the middle of NYC, super easy to get to with the subway. 2. Service: the servers are awesome! They are super attentive, even when they are extremely busy. They even help put on your bibs for you. The minute you look up, there is someone at the table waiting to see what you need. They also give the good gloves, not the ones that are too big to even be comfortable. However, it is latex, so if you are allergic, please let them know before something happen. The servers were efficient, accommodating, and knowledgeable. 3. Price: I’m from Atlanta, so the price was expensive to what I was used to, but I understand it’s NYC. Everything is more expensive. Crawfish are $ 15/lb. Not too bad for NYC… right? 4. Food: The flavoring was OMGOSH… AMAZING! I’m a huge crawfish fan and seriously look for crawfish in every city I visit. I can honestly say that this place is the . Seriously… not even kidding. 5. Wait time: Ok, so this is where things get rough. They are so busy that you will need to wait 2 hours before you can get a table. Once you get a table, they give you 1.5 hour to eat and leave. You must be saying to yourself… «2 hours wait time for 1.5 hour of eating time? is it worth it?» To me, yes, because I’m such a huge crawfish fan and because I don’t live in NYC, so this might be one of the few chances I get to enjoy it. Once you sit down and eat the crawfish, you’ll see why there’s such a long wait. Overall, this place is great. I will most definitely come back when I visit NYC again.

We came here about 30 minutes before it opened on a Monday. A couple of other people were waiting with us. When we sat down, I was surprised to be given gloves! I’ve been to Boiling Crab, Hot n Juicy, and Chicago’s Angry Crab. Never have I ever gotten gloves. Nice move NY. Also they have someone who pits your bib on for you! Same. Never experienced that kind of service before. We ordered the combo A and some crab legs. We loved the sauce. Unlike Angry Crab where it is overly buttery/sits in a pool of butter, the sauce was really flavorful without being greasy. I didn’t feel guilty for dipping my shrimp in the sauce. By the time we left, the restaurant was pretty much full. I liked the atmosphere although it feels a bit dark in the back room. Service was friendly and I would definitely come back again.

Three visits so far, and all have been home runs. ATMOSPHERE: I was looking for a place that could replicate Boiling Crab, a chain I know and love back home. Their MO is to serve seafood by the pound in large plastic bags, along with your choice of seasoning/spice. For two of my visits I was lucky enough not to have a wait, but today I went at the same time(weeknight around 8) and had a reasonable half-hour wait. It’s always been packed regardless of the day or hour, so I think wait times just depend on luck. The good news is the wait tends to go by fast, and they conveniently text you when your table is ready. FOOD: My go-to here is a pound of shrimp or crawfish(both of these run $ 15/lb), depending on how much work I feel like doing peeling shells. The combo is a great deal if you have more than 1 person or if you’re starving, since you pay the same price per pound but get potato and corn-on-the-cob thrown in. The«Boil Special» sauce(a combo of all their sauces aka Old Bay, garlic, old bay, and lemon pepper) is definitely the way to go if you want maximum flavor. Their spice levels lean towards the milder side, so I think even their«spicy» is closer to a medium for the average person. Pro tip: I like asking for a couple of limes and salt/pepper on the side: squeeze the limes into the little plastic cup of s&p, then dip your seafood in there for extra flavor. Apart from their main attraction of seafood by the pound, the Boil also does a solid job serving up sides and appetizers. The soft-shell crab in particular is a big hit, though keep in mind that it’s a small portion(1 fried soft-shell crab split in 2). I recommend getting a basket(around $ 12) so you also get to try their cajun fries, vinegary slaw, and awesome house-made tartar sauce. SERVICE: On my last visit, I was particularly impressed by the service. Our servers were on top of everything. Water cups were always full, plates for shells were quickly cleaned and replaced, and any requests were promptly fulfilled, with a smile to boot. They even went out of their way to help make sure our bags and coats were safe from sauce spillage, which was greatly appreciated. Bibs and gloves are available too! Overall, I love the Boil and can’t wait for my next visit! See ya soon(:

Sunday night adventure at the Boil. This place is still going strong as the crowd waiting to get a table on a Sunday night was quite large. Luckily, we were seated immediately at the bar which was just as fine as getting a table to me. There were TVs and the bar area is nice. The amount of seafood offered and provided is immense and delicious. We started off with the fried calamari which came with not only marinara sauce but also an olive paste. Both paired great with the calamari. As for the calamari, it had a light batter so it didn’t leave a heavy bite and the calamari was thick and cooked perfectly. It was soft to the bite, not overly chewy. A great dish to share between two to three people. I do wish that it was slightly more crispy but it was still delicious and fresh tasting. We then shared Combo A, which was 1lb of crawfish and 1lb of shrimp. We got it in the The Boil Special Cajun Blend, at the spicy level(although I did find it more mild than spicy. I think next time I would opt for fire). The Boil Special Cajun Blend is delicious. I feel like it’s all the other seasonings combined into one. It was full of garlic and had a buttery taste, coupled with Cajun spice. So gooood. I would say my favorite is definitely the shrimp. There was so much flavor, so much meat and probably the easiest to get the shellfish out of its shell. The crawfish is also delicious, it just is less meat and needs more effort to extract the meat in one piece. With the combo, comes with potatoes and corn, smothered in that sauce. Everything is just full of flavor. Overall, a delicious, messy meal. Wear the bib! It will save your clothes from splashes.

Very disappointed, given that there are always hour-long waits and highly raved about. My boyfriend and I came on a Sunday night and waited for 45 minutes. We decided to go elsewhere for happy hour meanwhile waiting. They text you when your table is almost ready! Awesome. We were seated at the bar. There’s enough space for each person but you will be eating elbow to elbow. The menu is pretty simple, but has a huge variety of appetizers. We automatically agreed to get the Soft Shell Crabs basket($ 10). **Notice it says crabs, not crab. These comes with a side of Cajun fries and coleslaw. The appetizer came really quickly and in front of us was a platter of ONE Soft Shell crab cut in half… Nonetheless, it was fried to perfection and went really well with their special dipping sauce. Fries? No seasoning at all and were sad and soggy. Coleslaw was okay, nothing special. This appetizer gets 2⁄5 stars. For our main, we chose to share a pound of shrimp($ 13) with a side of sausages($ 5), corn($ 3) and vermicelli($ 3). We were contemplating on whether we wanted Medium or Spicy. We went with the Spicy Boil Special Sauce. Our food came in about 20 minutes, enough time for us to finish our appetizer. We were already familiar with Cajun seafood(tried Claw Daddy’s and The Boiling Crab), so we had pretty good idea of what the flavor should be like. We felt cheated because we were skeptical about ordering Spicy, thinking it would be too spicy although we have a good tolerance for spicy. It was not spicy at all, if anything probably mild(wondering if they messed up our order). Their sauce is very buttery and wasn’t screaming with flavor. It was mediocre and we didn’t see what other people were talking about. The shrimp were cooked well, not overdone. The vermicelli is a great side they offer. Just wish there was enough sauce and flavor to pair with it…

Got Combo B and it was great! I feel that it was a little pricey but it was definitely a great meal. The app portion that I had did not exactly worth $ 12. It was one small little soft crab cut into two pieces and the bottom were a few fries. But overall, it’s bound to be messy but we kept it pretty clean and took our time peeling. The crawfish was only good if they were big pieces, the small pieces didn’t have much to eat or taste. The giant lobster was good when drenched in the boil special sauce! Definitely get the boil special sauce! Came around 5:30pm on a Monday. Didn’t have to wait but eventually got packed by 6:00pm. Even the bar was filled with people! The area is alittle small, people kept bumping around.

if your ready for a New Orleans feel, take a good trip down to boil. The wait may be somewhat frustrating but i cant say its not worth it, unfortunately they don’t accept reservations but once you have you name on the wait list they text you to be seated. I had Snow Crab & the King Crab legs, they were amazing. Was having crab after 3 years & wanted to get the real feel. The boil did not disappoint. The ‘spicy’ level sauce is the perfect I feel, comes with garlic & goes really well witht the crab meat. Ambience is not as good as its popularity. Lobster & Shrimp are also served but I went to have crabs & thats all I had! ;)

Come early(before 7 pm) or be prepared to wait hours. I was quoted a 3 hour wait once — although The Boil is good, it’s not THAT good to wait 3 hours for. If you’re ever quoted anything over 30 minutes, I highly recommend placing a take out order instead if you’re that invested in eating here that day. Through my several visits, I’ve tried: Appetizers — Fried oyster sliders These were okay — nothing special, so I would skip these. — Mac and cheese Even if you’re not a mac and cheese fan, this is worth ordering for the table and sharing as the crust is the highlight of this dish. — Cajun fries A MUST especially if you’re a french fry lover. There’s plenty of cajun spice sprinkled throughout each fry. Kind of like Five Guy’s cajun fries, but these are actually crispy and thiner compared to Five Guy’s. Main — Crawfish — Shrimp — Clams For the best bang of your buck, I recommend ordering the shrimp and the clams(1 lb per person is a great amount for one person). I always order the shrimp when I come here. The crawfish aren’t worth it because they’re tiny and you really have to work to get some of the little meat out of each crawfish. After peeling pounds of shrimp, I’m sure you don’t want to put in extra effort towards eating. Tip: If you’re still hungry or would like some other texture/filler, order the rice and throw it into the bag of sauce. You’ll thank me later.

Great seafood at reasonable prices. It’s a very small place so the wait can be insane, but if you leave your number they will text you when your table is ready. There is no drinking at the bar, it’s only for dinner guests. We went for Valentine’s Day and were seated at the bar. It was too cold on that side of the restaurant so we added our name to the list and went to have drinks at a local bar while we waited. We got a text about 75 minutes later. Tip, if you don’t want to get too messy, ask for your sauce on the side. Otherwise, everything is covered in sauce and you can’t help but get messy. The Boil special sauce is a must(garlic butter and lemon pepper with old bay all mixed together). We had the catfish basket with fries, macaroni and cheese, crab cake, brussels sprouts, crawfish, crab legs and shrimp as well as mojitos. It was pretty cheap for so much food, at $ 107 + tip. It’s CASHONLY — be prepared.

Ok so I went here February 13, 2016 and arrived around 6:45−7 pm. As soon as we got there we noticed people crowded into a small area waiting. We waited for the hostess to return to the front to ask her for a table for two. She told us there would be a 1 ½ hour wait. That was totally disappointing. We accepted the challenge and gave her our names and number so they could text us when our table was ready, but it was o cold outside we weren’t going anywhere! There was no waiting area!!! We were nearly on top of the people who were eating at their tables which I must mention are super small(especially the two seaters in the front. Next problem, they only accept cash! Wth?! It’s 2016!!! Luckily we did t actually have to wait the full wait time, probably only like 25 mins. We sat right at the bar at first but since there is no real waiting area, we were catching the meanest chill from the door opening and closing. We spotted a couple at a nearby table getting up and asked the manager if we could take that table once it was clear and she said yes. The food was delicious! The clams omg, the crab legs omg, the corn and potatoes omg! And you get gloves and a bib. How cute! Would love to go back!

[belated post] Not a bad hands-on experience, but the wait is long! Possibly because we went in a large group on a Friday night? They don’t allow you to make reservation over the phone, so you have to go there in person to reserve a table. They give you bibs and gloves to wear so you won’t dirty your hands and clothes. It’s optional unless you want to get messy. The seafood is pretty good. The seafood drenched in their special sauce is even better. However, I felt like they added way too much MSG in the sauce(hence, the deliciousness) because I couldn’t stop drinking water… Gulps! The appetizers, on the other hand, are really a hit for us. We ordered a second round of appetizers even though we were stuffed with all the seafood lol. Would I go back? Yeah, it was fun!

Friday night — it’s packed! There is a nice bar nearby– Home Sweet Home. Put your name down at the boil, go to the bar and have some drinks — The Boil will text you when your table is ready! Now, I was a little disappointed because I got there earlier than the person I was meeting up, so I asked to put my name down and to be seated in the back area. When my party arrived, we still had to wait 15 mins and on top of that it was for a bar spot. I would have done 5 stars if the hostess had worked with me to get me seated in the back as she had promised. The food was amazing. We tried the mac n cheese which was delicious. I normally like crawfish and it was crawfish season so win-win. Got that, plus shrimp, and crab legs. All in the special sauce and medium spicy. We love spicy but you never know how spicy places make it. I overheard someone else place a order, and they got a spicy sauce on the side, I wish I had done that. Overall — great service, great food, great flavor. I would come back here, but first I would try other spots similar before having this be my #1 choice

The boil is a CASHONLY restaurant that specializes in fresh, made to order seafood and it does a great job at it. I’ve been here twice now and it’s safe to say the snow crab legs are the best I’ve ever had. Make sure you get them with the works– garlic butter, old bay and lemon pepper. That blend of flavor and seasoning is perfect. If you want to kick the flavor up a notch you can choose a heat level of mild medium spicy or fire if you’re really bold. Priced at around $ 18/pound the night I went(Market Price) the prices are reasonable. Ordering 2 pounds I received 4 bundles which was definitely enough to split between 2 people. You also receive corn and potatoes in the bag also. Adding in a side of garlic bread, I’ve got a complete meal that I couldn’t be more satisfied with. A must try for a lover of seafood. They don’t accept reservations so be aware, the more intimate the party, the better.
I thought I had written a review for this place. I guess not. I’ve been to this place three times. Dined in twice and I ordered take out once, and brought it back to Brooklyn so my mom could try it. I would want to take her here but she’s not a fan of waiting to be seated, as this place can get busy, fast… and I can’t get her here when the place opens up at 5pm. Of course, I’ll be returning back many more times. All three times I ordered combo A, which is 1lb of shrimp and 1lb of crawfish. I should really try something different but the Boil Special sauce, which the seafood is cooked in, is really something… it’s a combination of garlic butter, lemon pepper and old bay seasoning. I like peeling the seafood and redipping it into the sauce. I even asked for a spoon to get all that garlicky goodness. The crabcake is really good as well. The combos also come with a piece of corn and some potato chunks. I learned from Leslie D. that the fries are best when dipped in the special sauce. This place is good to eat and chat with friends as you’re not able to use your phone while eating, so ask your attention is to the food, and maybe your friends. Messy eating bonding time. This place isn’t good for dates, that’s if you decide to indulge in garlicky goodness, be prepared for that garlic breath, and even burping up garlic essence for a few hrs… and maybe smelling like garlic the next day. Also, this place has a really good music playlist. I was singing along while munching on seafood… sorry to the people sitting next to us.

There was a long wait at night, roughly around 30 –45 minutes wait. My partner and I got seated at those high tables. Underneath the table were hooks where we can hang our belongings. The service was great and fast. The restaurant was very busy and packed with customers all around. I had the catfish basket, combo A with garlic butter + lemon pepper in mild spicy. It was delicious. We had the bibs around our necks and gloves on so we wouldn’t dirty ourselves. The food was great. It was fresh, easy to eat, and exploding with flavor. The portions were big. I didn’t expect myself to not finish my combo but happened. It was so good. They don’t accept credit/debit cards of any type. It’s cash only so make sure you’ve got cash on you! There’s also an ATM right outside the restaurant if you really don’t have enough cash.

Cash only! There’s an ATM available by the entrance next to the host, but it charges $ 2.50 to withdraw. You can get a large bag of shrimp and crawfish ~$ 25(ideally split among two people) which left us full. The other combos include crawfish and lobster and also crawfish and crab. The combo also came with potatoes and corn, plus you can customize and select the seasoning and spicy level(we did mild). The BBQ shrimp appetizer was delicious and came with crunchy, well-seasoned fries and cole slaw. I devoured the fries, which filled up half a plate. The staff here are incredible; they cater to your needs and make sure you are taken care of. They tie plastic«bibs» around your neck and give you a set of clear blue plastic gloves to wear. The table comes with a steel bucket to dump any shells and miscellaneous trash. The table is covered with brown, cardboard-like paper and removed at the end of your meal. The staff gives you plenty of napkins and lemon-scented hand wipes! The drinks here are strong and tasty; mostly $ 12+ per cocktail. I loved the peach lemonade, Saint Mojito and the Bloody Mary was a tiny bit spicy but tasty and rimmed with Old Bay seasoning(or similar spice). The staff are very attentive and clear out empty dishes and buckets(to replace) right away!

One of my favorite seafood place in the city! The wait is usually about an hour or more but it’s totally worth it. I usually get crab legs and shrimp with house sauce. They give it to you in vinyl bag and you have to eat it with your hands. Girls, don’t forget to bring your hair tie because it gets super messy. Personally i think crawfish is not worth it since the meat part is so tiny! They don’t take cash so take it out before you go. But if you forget, no worries bc they have it inside with like $ 3 charge to your card. Parking is another hassle but it’s not impossible to find. It’s pretty pricey so i would take out about $ 60 per person.

But at least they ask for your phone number so you can leave and come back —combo A with The Boil special seasoning and medium spiciness: yum! —Brussels sprouts: tasty but a pricey side dish —Mac n cheese: executed very well at the boil! I enjoyed the bread crumb crunch on top —catfish basket: perfectly fried with a light batter and yummy cajun fries They provide bibs and even plastic gloves If you’re not too fond of getting messy NOTE: CASHONLY
