The lengthy wine list here holds some varieties you’ve probably never heard of. While the list itself seems elitist, the atmosphere and menu are anything but. The menu in fact is written to poke at the silliness of the seriousness of it all. As comical as it is, the menu was named Best in North America by The World of Fine Wine. Rest assure you can definitely find a wine that will go along with whichever bite of food you choose. Bonus for Riesling lovers: They’ve got over 80 varieties.

Great quaint spot in the EV with a huge selection of wine. Dim romantic lighting and good selection of music. The music was a little bit loud, and asked to turn it down, the server was happy to turn it down.

This has become a regular spot for a friend and myself. It is absolutely amazing at any point of the day. It is an small wine bar that is pressure-free and not full of stuck up individuals. The staff is amazing and very knowledgeable about all of their wines on their ever changing menu. They let you taste before commiting to a 3oz taster or 6oz full glass which is really nice so you aren’t stuck with a wine you think is just so-so. The wine binders/menus are expansive and there is definitely something for anyone here to love. The food is really great, although we typically are there after dinner and only get the marinated olives, yum, and a plate of cheese, nuts, and fresh bread. I really do love hanging out here during the week after work for a great tasting of a few wines or for a glass or two of something that has caught my tastebuds. A true neighbor gem and go to for me!

I heart Terroir’s happy hour deals. I still get teary eyed when I think about the closing of their Park Slope location but I am glad I have a back up now. The E. Vil location is pretty accessible and the chef does a pretty good job with their bar bites. Most of their food options are relatively healthy, calamari & chick pea salad, smoked almonds, assorted olives, kale salad, etc. And yummy healthy treats help me feel less guilty after I’ve downed 4 glasses of really good wine. I wish I would have made it back before summer of Riesling ended because they have great Riesling options, but there’s always next year!

Great ambiance and great wine. 3 stars because they don’t have any Sauvignon blanc(!!!), our bartender was VERY frosty, and the food was meh. The risotto balls are delicious but everything else we tried was not impressive

Very intimate, small place. A very nice mellow place with the smallest bar kitchen. The servers remind me of my job, just so chill and not too overly friendly but still my water was always filled and they always gave me a sincere smile. The wine list is among one of the most largest menus I’ve seen, but was recommended a red from the bartender… and it was delicious! If you don’t know what to order just ask them, they are always willing to help you out. As for the food, please get yourself the chicken liver pâté(my friend hates liver and surprisingly he loved this). Definitely the best liver pâté I had. Slammin! And marinaded olives… YUM! Just don’t do what I did, I came a bit late and I saw a small bowl full of something that looked like almonds. A little too late but I put my friend’s used, sucked on, olive pit in my mouth and he sat there laughing at my stupidity for about a good 4 minutes. I can’t tell you how embarrassed I was, he will not let me live this down. But avoid the lamb sausage, VERYVERYSALTY. Thank god they gave some lemon on the side. And very dry… will not order this again.

Terroir is a fantastic, leave-your-pretentiousness-at-the-door-but-bring-your-creative-oenophile-mind-inside wine bar in the East Village. I cannot say I’ve visited their other locations, but the one on 12th St is a great place if you’re looking for an intriguing tour through some delicious freaking wines. ESPECIALLY if you’re a fan of riesling, which seems to be a specialty of theirs(or perhaps just for summer). The wine is interesting and wonderful, and you can really feel the friendly, energetic vibe of this place as its owned and operated by some people who take wine seriously but aren’t afraid to joke around. Also, if you go, take your time flipping through their menu book. There are some heartwarming as well as hilarious tidbits in there. The food, by the way, is excellent, and the staff is highly knowledgeable and very warm and friendly, and will be glad to help you pair a snack with a nice glass of something. Applause to Terroir for managing to create a home for something so spectacular without throwing their noses in the air. We need more like ‘em.

I came here for happy hour with a friend and overall I enjoyed the experience. The place is small but you don’t feel cramped, very intimate and a good place to relax and socialize with a small group. We sampled the meats and cheese platter, salad with edamame, and the pressed duck sandwich. All of the food was delicious and presented nicely. I would definitely go back here to explore the menu and wines more.

Happy hour prices are pretty unbeatable. I got 2 glasses of wine each $ 3.50 which for me was some of the best white wine I’ve ever had. I also had a glass of red for the happy hour $ 8 price, which was good. Also, they give you a nice taste of the wine first, which is ideal. I got the beet risotto balls stuffed with cheese and they were delicious. I also got the happy hour Bruschetta which was literally a pieces of somewhat burnt bread with butter and herbs. Yeah, I could have done without that. I also had the gnocchi which was a good texture, but the butter sauce it was sitting in was incredible. All in all good place would return for happy hour again.

Four stars for this very nice wine bar in the East Village. I stopped here on a Thursday night around 6:30 just in time for the happy hour which ends at 7pm. The bartender was really cool and gave us two temporary tattoos: «Reisling» and I heart Randall”. How :) is that! He then recommend two sherrys which were very good. I have only had sherry maybe once before so now was my chance to try it again at happy hour for $ 5. I was glad that I did, my glass was thoroughly enjoyable. I then had a glass of Reisling which apparently is being featured at Terroir this summer. My choice from Oregon was good and again well priced at $ 5.

Terroir is an intimate wine bar located in the always happening East Village. With knowledgeable staff and an extensive wine list(they have a binder!), you’ll find something to satisfy your tastes. The food is also very good and I believe it shares inspiration from the Hearth, which is located next door. On a side note, Terroir is a great place to take first dates. Perhaps someday, I’ll be able to land that ever elusive second date! ;)

$ 2.50 glasses of sherry before 7pm? Yes please, I’ll have another. Awesome space, awesome value(even the post-7pm prices). We came here for some pre-dinner drinks and had a great time. I would definitely come back.

I love the location in the 30s. This one is a bit smaller and tighter. I do love these locations for happy hour, and they definitely have one of the best selections overall. I think I was just wishing it was the larger, more chic location.

This place is my «go to» wine bar! Wine selection is great. Food is always good. Staff makes it easy to select a wine without the snooty wine bar feel. Casual place to hang and eat. BOOM

I have had many great nights in this lovely establishment. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, the food is excellent, and the wine selection is pretty spectacular. It is a bit small, and can get crowded. You may even be forced to interact with the people around you(terrifying for a New Yorker, I know). But the service, fair pricing, and wonderful food will make you happy that you came. The charcuterie and cheese plates are great, and I HIGHLY recommend the duck ham panini. Really, please get it. And then thank me profusely until it becomes awkward. Because its more fun that way.

Ok, the wine menu is massive.* I won’t pretend like I have any clue what I’m doing when looking at 20 different rieslings but the bartenders/waiters are great at suggesting something based on what you like, or don’t like as is often the case. No pretension here either, which for those of us who don’t know a sauvignon blanc from a chenin blanc** For better or worse, what really impressed me about Terroir is food. They have a decent menu of bar snacks, fried stuff, bruschetta, cheese/meat plates, and paninis. On my previous visits I’ve only had the bar snacks but the reason I’m writing this review is the ‘fried stuff.’ Beet Risotto Balls w/Gorgonzola is not something you see on a menu every day and boy was I happy I took the plunge… unreal, just get them. Everything else was great but what was really memorable were the Beet Risotto Balls. Go for it with your wine. The atmosphere in here is laid back with mostly couples of varying ages, but to be honest, there isn’t a ton of space. This results in a situation where you’re likely right up against another couple and their conversation. Sit at the bar so you’re at least afforded the ability to face each other. All in all, this is a solid place for a date… if you can find a seat. *seriously, check this thing out **i dont, but just knowing that obscure wine makes me sound smarter… no?

Came here for drinks with a friend on Friday night and was very pleased with the place. We didn’t have any food but their wine list by the glass is very impressive. Like other reviewers have said, the staff very clearly knows their wines and are happy to discuss them with you if you don’t know what you want. We got a very nice glass of red for«a screamin’ deal»($ 7 during happy hour, regularly $ 16.50 a glass) and it was quite tasty. Their other reds are all moderately priced between $ 11-$ 17 depending how fancy you want to get. The only downside to this place is how loud it gets. Considering how small it is, the decibel levels can become alarming. And if you don’t get here early you can forget about getting a seat. They do however make you sit across from your date/companion if you’re at the long table, which can make finagling your way out a bit tricky. And considering how loud it gets holding a conversation can also be a bit tricky. But earlier in the evening/during happy hour this is an excellent spot to enjoy some really well curated wines and try something new based on staff recommendations. I’m very happy I’ve tried it out.

Oh, man I never thought I would say this. Thank god for restos opening secondary locations. That is the only way I can explain the perfection of my night here. When this place first opened, my bf contributed to the wine menu — they had soms write up different pages — and we were crammed in here A LOT. Emphasis on crammed. Miserable, elbowing at the bar, cramming. But they’ve expanded in the past few years and on a grey Wednesday evening, the place was only half full when S and I arrived at 6:30. It was consistently at that almost-full, we can still walk around, though, level until I left. This is the best news ever. Smarmy let me pick the resto! And I was all: Need Good Wine. Money is no object… she shot down my more pricey suggestions and agreed to Terroir. The service was perfection. It’s like the smarty-I-know-what-I’m-doing-ness of a waiter at Per Se combined with the chillness of a waiter at your favorite Brooklyn shop. It’s Smarmy and I, so of course a bottle was going to be ordered, and we felt adventurous and went with his suggestion of a sparkling red from the Loire Valley. Besides the name being the same as one of my fav Sebastien Tellier songs, it really did taste like«a truck ride through the country with a basket of raspberries». Spot on, man. Food! We loved the mozarella balls(I mean… can you mess up mozarella ballz?) and the beet fritters(with little gobs of cheese in them) were perfection. We shared a panini with proscuitto and hen of the woods mushrooms, which was light and divine. & the chocolate hazelnut mousse we shared was creamy, with the perfect amount of crunchy hazelnuts. When we asked for glasses of champagne once our bottle was 86’d, our server offered us some delightful nutty sherry to finish off the night instead. Sweet deal. I can’t wait to go back to Terroir!

Great wine bar in e. vil, a cute little spot to grab a glass or two during the week. Their menu is a little bit too much for me… it’s seriously like a novel. The history is great, but I can do with just the wines, please and thank you. Their happy hour is also wayyyy too short, no one with a real job can make it to Terrior and have more than one glass at happy hour price($ 6 select wines & free sherry) haha. I guess they’d have to take the ‘free’ wine off the menu if they extended it. But all in all, had some great glasses + bruschetta(which was tasty & fresh).

A wine bar for wine snobs by serious wine snobs. Don’t get me wrong, I’m kind of a wine snob myself and I do like this place because their wine selection is meticulously done resulting in one of the best wine lists in Manhattan. But for people who don’t know much about wine yet but are open and willing to learning about it and trying different kinds this is not the bar for them. They do, however, have great tasting events. I went to one of their summer of rieslings tasting and enjoyed it very much. And the food menu is very good and a great accompaniment to the wine. Now if they were friendlier and more welcoming I’d give them 5 stars.
