Very solid vegetarian food. I’ve been for breakfast several times and I highly recommend trying the breakfast burrito(if you’re ready for a lot of food).

Not what it used to be! Staff was unfriendly and not helpful. Water was too hot to enjoy good japanese/chinese tea. They even should know how to brew their different variants of tea. … No surprise we were the only guests.

Yikes. I came here several times over the past ten years. Last night we went here and they were out of a lot of things, including many teas and tofu, which is pretty strange for a vegan tea place. Although is it a vegan place? The front of the menu says«simply vegan» but not everything was vegan and the waitress was not great at explaining what was. The chicken is actually«chicken» but there are eggs and cheeses. The menu is confusing which is not something you want when you have dietary restrictions. We ordered chips and guacamole and they gave us the bottom of the bag undippable bits of chips. We had to ask for new chips, which they got, but really? We had to ask? They had to go out and by them. Obviously we needed chips that were able to be dipped. The sandwiches were meh and all and all I was sad about this experience. They explained they were out of food because they had brunch earlier that day, which doesn’t seem like an unforeseeable event. I used to love going here and it’s such a shame that it’s so bad now. Moby would be ashamed.

I have never written a Unilocal review. I just signed into Unilocal with an account(rather than freeloading on other peoples’ reviews) explicitly for the purposes of reviewing this place because I felt like others need to know just how much they should avoid it. I came here with a friend to chat and do a little work. All we wanted was tea– which you think wouldn’t be too hard. Unfortunately, they were out of EVERYTEAWEASKEDFOR. The waitress casually mentioned that they were out of this, and this, each time we asked without saying more until we asked if there was anything they DID have. We pointed out that there were MICE in the establishment and the wait staff seemed nonplussed. In fact they just said«oh. yeah.» We had an incredibly hard time getting basic service even when we were the only people in the place. The waitress acted like serving us was a serious impingement on her serious work of… doing nothing? This was a stand out terrible experience. There is no world in which you should come here.

I loved this place when it was still Teany; I enjoyed it after it became Teanissimo, but today was another story. I wanted to grab a quick bite before an appointment and knew I could get vegan food there so when I arrived, I waited while the women counted out cash to someone obviously making a pick up or delivery of some sort, despite the fact that she ignored me. She and the cook were the only people in the place. I quickly ordered scrambled tofu which was supposed to come with 3 add-ons, which I also ordered. When my plate came, one of the three add-ons, avocado, was missing, as was any seasoning other than a lot of salt. They did bring me some, avocado which helped with the saltiness but the food was not very good. Both workers stepped out when I was ready to pay, and the woman returned to tell me it was cash only. She confirmed that this was not their policy and there was no sign to that effect — clearly she just wanted cash to replenish what she had paid out to the guy who was there when I arrived. She did take my credit card, grudgingly. While eating, I was reminded that I had walked in there recently for a coffee but left immediately because the music playing was so bad. Again the music was awful, just adding to an unwelcoming atmosphere. I won’t be back again.

Fantastic desserts — amazing peanut butter and chocolate creations. Yummy sandwiches that use faux chicken in creative, tasty ways. Great big salads. Close quarters inside and a small outdoor patio. Service is good. A lovely little spot for lunch or afternoon indulgence. Cool vibe. Decent playlist.

How are you guys still in business? Really. I gave you another shot last night and I got cold soup and burnt coffee. I don’t know how a place can screw up so royally for so many years and still pay the bills. What’s your secret?

This is for the tea retail only. I love tea as much as I do coffee(really!). Places like David’s Teas & Teavana which are corporate & popping up all over the place are good. But my prefrence is to support the boutique hand made tea people. I like the reusable adorable tin canisters and all the creative flavor packed teas like my favorites: #79 Honeybush Vanilla and #69 Vanilla Berry Cream Treat for myself or great as compact travel worthy gifts.

This place used to be awesome, I visited whenever I was in NYC dating back to its opening in 2001 – 2002, today it is a hollow shell of that. I don’t think Moby or his ex-girlfriend must own it now based on my recent experience there. The original TEANY was clean and sparsely decorated, while this place feels a bit thrown together. I used to regularly buy packaged tea and pots with the TEANY logo imprinted on them for gifts and when I last went in, they didn’t have any. They filled up a small dirty tin they found lying around, halfway with tea and charged me the same price as what I used to pay for a large tin full of tea, which is just lame. The people working their aren’t as friendly, I was always greeted by a smile or a hello but lately… nothing This place just isn’t what it used to be and that’s fine, I just won’t be going there anymore.

Before I say what happened on my most recent visit, I have to clarify that this has NEVERHAPPENEDWITHANOTHERSTAFFMEMBER. The a**hole-ocity that I endured from the following employee was an isolated incident, but it was particularly shameful since I had two of my friends with me who’s first impressions of TeaNY are now tainted. It was 11:30pm and TeaNY closes at midnight. Two friends and I walked in in hopes to grab a couple desserts and a latte, sit down and chat until they closed. Mind you, I’ve been to TeaNY even 10 minutes before closing and have been welcomed with open arms. This night however, was no welcome. The cashier immediately told us that they were closed and no longer serving food. I then negotiated with him that we only wanted to get desserts from the case, and that nothing would need to be cooked, and all this being said while there were three tables occupied by other patrons who were nowhere near finished with their meal. He said he could give us the desserts, so we were relieved and began to park ourselves at an empty table. That’s when he said, «No, I can only give it to you to take out.» Huh? My friend began to state the obvious, that they had another half hour before they close, and that it made no sense that we weren’t allowed service. Then in a condescending tone, the cashier«explained» to us how if it’s a slow night, they’re supposed to close early. This made me even angrier, especially since as I said previously, there were three other tables enjoying themselves. I won’t stop going to TeaNY because thankfully, this is the only schmuck I’ve ever encountered there, but I can’t wait to bump into the manager to let him know how me and my friends were treated that night, and how it disrupted his business.

Stumbled upon this place. So cute and quaint. I needed prosecco with my meal, but I will definitely come back for their tea. The vegan cheeseburger was okay. I could easily make it at home. And I thought the bun overpowered the burger. I will order something else next time. Overall it was a relaxing experience. Great vibes. Mediocre food. A great place to come and listen to oldies music, sit on their patio, and work on your laptop or read a book

This place is great! We stumbled across this place when we were walking through LES. The tea collection is quite vast and great here. They also make fresh cold pressed juice here — we got the zen citrus, which is a mix of orange, grapefruit and ginger. It was cold, fresh and refreshing, exactly what we were looking for! This is a really cute café with a lot of different food options for vegan /vegetarians. I definitely want to return here for brunch next time. The staff is also super friendly and knowledgeable. I would highy recommend this place.

Have you ever experienced a business playing loud yet soothing music in the background? It’s quite odd. This was the first thing I noticed about Teanissimo(called Teany outside/inside the building) upon entrance on Sunday evening. The vibe, otherwise warm and cozy thanks to the small space, low lights, and plentiful candles, was ruined by the smooth, new-agey music that was blasting. Normally I would have walked right out but I had 45 minutes to kill before dinner and felt like I should give this place a shot. I ordered a chai latte(somewhere between $ 3 – 4) from the friendly guy at the counter and a few minutes later he brought it to me at my table. I’ve only started drinking these regularly and therefore am no chai expert by any means, but I was very disappointed. The latte was not spicy(as in it tasted like chai but didn’t have the usual kick to it) and was too watery. It was also not sweetened(as I believe they usually come) nor was there sugar or honey on the table. It was not the delicious tea latte I was expecting(from a tea place at that) but I drank it anyway as I read my magazine. If the tea presentation improves and the music is turned down a notch or five, Teanissimo would be a nice, intimate place to catch up with a friend. Otherwise I’d seek out one of the other zillion cafés in the area for a relaxing drink.

Came with with 3 of my girlfriends after dinner. Two of the girls ordered sangrias since it was 2 for 1 and they were pretty good. My other friend and I ordered teas. I had the ginger peach white orange something tea.(long name) and my friend ordered a vienna tea. can’t recall the exact name. I loved hers so much I bought some to go. It was delicious! It was like sipping on caramel/toffee water! But not too sweet at all. We also ordered a cherry cheesecake and that did not disappoint. The service was okay. It wasn’t busy so our server was always on her phone. Can’t ask for much though! It’s a small neighbourhood joint!

This place is underrated. It is such a cute little tea shop. First of all, their selection of teas is amazing. I have had several but I love the coconut black tea. Second, their desserts have never failed me. The chocolate chip cookie with nuts, the brownie bottom cheesecake, the cupcakes, the cakes!!! My favorite is the vegan cannoli. Now, I used to hate cannolis before I was vegan but this one is just amazing. It has the perfect texture that it’s not too hard but not mushy, and the cream is not overly sweet. I have never tried the food here but when I am nearby I never miss out on their delicious vegan sweets!

Meh. It’s vegan and stuff, but the place doesn’t look that clean. The music is super annoying and in your face. The food was ok I guess, I had the jalapeño egg sandwich and the mushroom soup. It tasted ok, nothing like to rave about or anything. Disclaimer: I’m a huge carnivore! :D

Let’s get the service out of the way first. It’s a vegan restaurant and I have yet to find a vegan restaurant with good service, it seems to be in the DNA(before I start getting hate mail my vego other half agrees) so no one should be surprised it’s not up to par. Maybe it was because we were in a relaxed mood and not in a hurry but we found the service more comically bad(ala Fawlty Towers) than frustrating and annoying. I mean what do you do when the waitress realises that you’ve been sitting for 30 minutes without any water and brings you one glass. To be fair it was the waitresses first day(or so she said) and she was working both inside and outside. But the food is pretty good and this coming from a self-confessed carnivore. We walked by looking for a brunch venue and I was feeling generous so offered to go there with the vego. I had the breakfast wrap nice sized toasted wrap filled with scrambled eggs avocado jalapeño beans and more… The vego had the BLT with fake bacon made from tempeh except they didn’t have any fake bacon so they used fake ham instead. The wrap was delicious and i’m pretty sure it was healthy and the vego was happy with her HLT. For those of you wondering yes I had to try it to see what the ham was like and it did taste like ham if a little weak… Overall you get what you expect average service but healthy, good value and tasty food in a relaxed venue with nice outdoor seating.
