I came here once with my wife during lunch. The food was very good and very filling. Love the chips and salsa! If you’re downtown and you like Mexican, you should stop by.

Such a great experience! I just came here for lunch and the service was perfect. The waiter was attentive and the food came out within 10 minutes, which was perfect because I was in a time crunch. The chicken quesadilla was delicious and so were the chicken fajitas. It’s also extremely affordable for the amount of food they give. I will absolutely be going back soon!

This Mexican restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. The food is always fresh, the environment is warm and welcoming as are the staff. I love the fact that this is a family owned and operated business. Prices are reasonable and portion size are filling. From the salads to the tacos and steaks, flavorful and filling! A must eat place! Wishing them lots of future success!

Food was ok, nothing special. Service was terrible. I’ll avoid this place in the future. You better spend your $ in Chipotle

I have been living in the neighborhood for 10 years and unfortunately only found Tajin five years later. Luckily, for the last five years I’ve known where the best and most delicious Mexican food is tucked away in a gem of a restaurant with wonderful owners who have been there for 30 years I think, cooking their food with love.

This is the kind of Mexican spot I’ve been looking for in NYC — nothing too fancy, but the food hits the spot. We went on a Friday evening and it was pretty much empty except for a few bands of roving tourists but they seemed to be doing a brisk takeout/delivery business. BF and I got the chips and salsa — salsa tasted fresh(it’s more blended than a straight pico de gallo), though the chips were overly salted in places. I got the combination burrito with rice and beans, though if I were to go back I’d likely stick to the ground beef which was super tasty. Got guac and sour cream on the side and the guacamole was delicious. BF got the carne asada which I didn’t get to try any of since he ate it all. VERY excited to find a good Mexican place downtown, and reasonably priced and close to our apartment to boot. This will definitely be a regular joint.

Excellent example of what a Mexican restaurant should be for the lunch crowd. I work downtown in the Fin-Dist. And can say 1000% that I love the food. The menu is perfect. Staff is great. Try the lemonade in mason jars. Its not exactly a large eatery so don’t be surprised if you’re brushing shoulders or your neighbor is staring at your food to get ideas before they order.

Tajin Mexican Restaurant is a small restaurant near Wall street. We had just seen the Jewish Heritage Museum at Battery Park nearby and were famished. They have a few tables outside and since the weather was sunny though a bit nippy, we decided to sit outside. Service was good and food was served piping hot. We ordered some beer, chips and salsa. For the main course we ordered the Chicken Fajita. Food tasted good but it was not the best Mexican food I have eaten. Overall a nice place but not cheap.

Good food, should be a Four… But They never give me hot sauce unless I ask, they have a receipt that doesn’t show what was purchased just a total, although cashier/waiter seem nice they are not your standard customer service I order from them monthly and will probably continue since it’s yummy… Hopefully they’ll remember the hot sauce… Someday…

Convenient location in Fidi by the World Trade Center. Whoever wrote that this is the best Mexican restaurant ever is a liar or never had Mexican food before! They need to improve service and food quality overall.

I’m not going to say its the best Mexican food but it wasn’t bad. For starters we had the guac and salsa with chips. The guac lacked the kick that I’m used to and was a little too smooth in texture for my liking. The texture was more comparable to a spread. The salsa tasted right out of a Tostitos jar, so you can just imagine how lackluster it was. However, we were able to jazz it up with some of the green hot sauce on the table along with salt and pepper. As for the chips, salty! Luckily the starters did not foreshadow the entrees. I had the mahi mahi fish tacos which comes with 2 stuffed tacos, yellow rice, and black beans. I really enjoyed the black beans and rice and the fish was cooked very well. The only problem was that the pico de gallo is given as a side so I had to continuously add it to the taco with every bite since the taco itself is wrapped tight in parchment paper. The establishment overall is priced a little high for the quality of food that is being served. If you do plan on going keep in mind that it is tight during lunch hours and the staff, while friendly, were a little forgetful when we asked for additions to our meals. I wouldn’t mind coming back in the future, but I am not anticipating it either.

Best Mexican food I’ve had. On par or better than what I ate in Mexico(at some well rated places too!) and easily the best Mexican in NYC. Great service and they deliver quickly too.

I love Mexican food and it’s hard to please me because there are so many mediocre Mexican restaurants in NYC. I just happened to walk past Tajin and thought I’d try it. The staff is fantastic and very friendly and the food was delivered in less than 5 minutes. Hands down the best Mexican food in the City. Very flavorful without being too hot, but you can ask them to spice it up if you like it hotter. The sidewalk tables are basic, but you have a view of the new WTC. Get the chips and salsa for only $ 3.99. I got he 2 enchiladas lunch, one beef and the other chicken, and they were both very tender, melt in your mouth fillings not the tough you need a steak knife to cut through the meat kind one usually gets elsewhere.

We were looking for a quick and casual place to chill while waiting to go up the WTC observatory and found this cute little place. It has an indoor-outdoor setting which was nice in an area that is perpetually shaded due to tall buildings. In any case, we tried the horchata, tamarind water, guacamole and chips, and fish tacos. Everything was pretty good. Both drinks were on par. The guacamole could have been larger portions. The chips were nice and crispy though so after we were through with the guac, I just nibbled on those chips to satisfy the fat craving. The fish tacos were standard. Comes with beans and rice. Oh. I forgot to mention that we got the flan. Don’t miss it. Really creamy with a firm texture.

I stumbled upon this place in a starving, exhausted state. It was the only restaurant in sight and my feet literally hurt so badly from walking that I couldn’t imagine dragging my suitcases around to another restaurant. So I ignored the mediocre reviews here, especially compared to surrounding establishments. I learned my lesson! Not to be nitpicky, but I was seated between a super loud family with three young whiny kids and directly next to a couple girls who were so close to me I could eat off their plates. This would be fine except there was plenty of space all throughout the restaurant. I thought whatever — I just want food. That’s when even more problems started to pop up. Two different waiters brought me carbonated water, so clearly they didn’t communicate and I also didn’t understand what was up with the multiple servers. I was speaking Spanish to one server who didn’t understand English at all, yet he acted like he didn’t know what I was saying. I’m fluent in Spanish. And every time I asked a question or for something, they would go back and run it by someone else — I’m not sure who? Also I’m not sure why they didn’t know the answers to my questions on the spot — they weren’t difficult questions. I asked for hot sauce or salsa with my food at one point and if I would be starting my meal with chips and salsa at another point. Both questions/requests they shot me awkward, bizarre looks. No one took ownership of any given table; service was extremely inconsistent and spotty because of that. Food(chicken enchiladas) was quite mediocre, if not bordering on bad because it was so bland and tasted like something out of cans. I was so hungry that I ended up paying for the chips and salsa, which is definitely unusual to me for a Mexican restaurant to not offer that free along with the meal. I just found the whole experience tasteless in more ways than one and I can’t imagine how they stay in business with the skyrocket prices. Maybe it’s a Financial District thing and others have noted that there are no other Mexican restaurants in the area… Yikes.

Open, light, and somewhat airy with fans but no AC. Very disappointed that the ONLY adult beverage choices are kinda lame beers. No margaritas, no wine. Food is typical Mexican fare, moderate pricing. Friendly service.

I love the food here. When I was working in the area I ate here at least three times a week. Food is tasty and authentic. I recently went back since I was in the neighborhood and had my favorite, steak taco salad, though you can’t go wrong with their burrito or guacamole, chicken flautas, beef stew. It had been 4 years since last I visited so I got some sticker shock as the prices for each item had gone up by $ 4 for most entrees. I get it though, the area is by the freedom tower and WTC memorial but still. yikes!

I didn’t hate it! For a tex-mex(ugh) in the financial district(ugh), I didn’t hate my grilled chicken burrito and even enjoyed it halfway through. Kind of want more. A lot lighter and less dense than chipotle(which is like eating a mexican baby wrapped in a sweater sometimes). I will still travel elsewhere for REAL taco/mexican cravings(worth traveling for, yes, Rockaway Taco?) but when I get an itch at work and need something to scratch it(and not infuriate it), Tajin is a solid bet.

Good luck getting a table for lunch, it’s packed. Literally was not room for all of our group to stand inside. I ordered the fish tacos and rather enjoyed it. The fish is grilled and despite looking dry, is not. It also comes with avocado. Most entrees come with a massive heap of rice and beans on the side. Having had rice and beans at many ok Mexican restaurants, these exceeded low expectations. Usually, the rice is pretty dry, this one was covered in an oily sheen. Wouldn’t mind coming back here.
