Walked in around lunch time and it was awkwardly empty. The cashier was on the phone taking an order, there were two sushi chefs and then there was some random guy that appeared to be an employee sitting next to where patrons usually sit. Probably not my business but shouldn’t he look up from his phone to at least greet us? Extremely confused as to why this place has a 4 star rating. I ordered the spicy special that came with spicy tuna avocado, salmon and crab? Not at all spicy so I had to ask for spicy mayo(1.50 extra) and seaweed was chewy. The boyf got the tri colored sushi with a tuna mango roll. Came with miso soup which we quite enjoyed and a salad that we didn’t touch. They didn’t satisfy my sushi craving. Wouldn’t return.

Came after I performed at one of the local Comedy Clubs(not telling which one… rhymes with dramedy yeller) and it was empty(not a good sign) but I was hungry and wanted some quick sushi and not head to a sit down place on a Sat night where I’d be having«the lonely man special» while everyone else was on dates and hanging with friends(ah the glamorous life of a performer) so I shambled in to this lil’ place and was really wow’ed. place is small and I can imagine it getting very crowded with the college crowd that would probably be here during the day during classes(you are deep in NYU territory here people!). but its counters are clean and seating was plentiful so who cares? I got the Sashimi/Sushi combo and was pleased that I received some quality sushi in large pieces for the Sashimi. Usually when you go into these smaller cafeteria style(no waiter or waitress, you take your food on a tray) sushi joints, the sashimi is really small slivers, this was a nice size without being just a random hunk of fish. As I was dining I noticed the menu and what I was thrilled to see YOUCANBUYTHEIRSUSHIGRADEFISHBYTHELB!!! Now I’ve always wanted to make sushi at home but I always think, «well I’m not sure if I can trust my local market and I don’t really have a fish monger super convenient to me so I guess I won’t». Well here you can buy many of the fish they use for the sushi! I would always go to places and think«the sushi is good here, I wish I could buy the fish here as they do all the work and quality checks so I would feel secure buying it here.» but none ever do. THISPLACEDOES! Also their dessert menu is inventive and might I say, «adorable»! As they make fun sushi rolls out of dessert items. Can I give a shout out to the Banana Nutella and strawberry sushi roll? Granted I’m sure Jiro Ono would have a heart attack if he knew about this sushi blasphemy but it’s fun and really tasty and great to look at visually! They also have a Peanut Butter and Jelly roll(how friggin’ cute!) and Tempura Twinkies(when you just have that fat boy/girl moment and you can’t let it go) Prices were reasonable and what one might expect, person manning the cash register was competent and polite and not overly friendly or solicitous(I don’t need new best friends, I want my food and I want it correctly and promptly). Next time I perform I’m definitely going back! Thanks all at SUSHISUSHI! *Also as a side note, I read some of the horrible reviews here and in defense of this place(and of course my own choices since none of them could EVER be wrong) let’s be clear, this is primarily a takeout joint for the dorms and kids and old school West Village residents, it’s not a sit down restaurant(although yes there is seating) and it doesn’t claim to be. If you expect this to be on par with Megu, Nakazawa or Morimoto, you are absolutely kidding yourself but for what it is and what it presents itself as… totally five stars.

they dont even deserved a one star! the food is too pricey, the staff is rude(he has no ideas about the sushi, and when he served the food he just put it on the table and left.) do not come here if you do not want to waste your time guys! highly disappointed.

The place is very small. Honestly I wasted time coming here. Sushi didn’t even taste good. Wasted money. Will not come back here. Don’t waste your time.

This place was freaking horrible. The waitress was super nice, but everything else(the sushi, salad, and tea) were totally expensive and garbage. They also left my boyfriend and me with horrible stomach pains all night. We considered making ourselves puke just to get it out of our systems. The carrot ginger dressing was garbage(zero sesame oil aka flavor in there) and it came on a crappy white plastic plate that made it really difficult to eat. The rolls, though, were the worst. The seaweed was chewy(they clearly didn’t toast it like you’re supposed to) and the rice was barely sticking to it. I couldn’t even get myself to eat a whole roll. Also the green tea was just a shitty teabag in a to-go coffee cup. This is really just an overpriced place that survives on nyu students. I have no clue how it got any good ratings. Totally gross sushi. Do not go. You will regret it.

Excellent random find in Greenwich Village! I had some time to kill when I was visiting NYC recently and was a little hungry. I was going to have dinner later on, so I didn’t want to get anything expensive or big. I stumbled upon this place – you order at the cash register and then sit and bring it out to you. For sushi, it was inexpensive and the rolls I ordered were absolutely delicious and fresh. The people who worked there were so sweet and helpful, and they have free wi-fi(and chargers around the room). I will consider heading back here next time I’m in the Village.

This place was a huge disappointment. I can not understand the 4 star rating. Although the waitress was nice, she did not know what she was doing. Bless her, she tried, but her English(among other things) were not up to par. Aside from her being completely frazzled and all over the place, I also heard her lie to a customer over the phone. A customer called saying they hadn’t received their order yet and she said, «It was on the way,» even though they were still making the food! The place itself is small with no real ambience to it. No where to place winter coats, which makes for an uncomfortable eating situation. The tempuratizer(shrimp and fake crab tempura, 2 pieces each) came on a «to-go» tray which really didn’t help the whole mood of the place. Fake crap was horrible and shouldn’t be tempura-ed(yes, I used tempura as a verb). And the tempura was served with soy sauce! I’ve never ever had tempura with soy sauce and after trying it once, I now know why they’re not served together! Where’s my tempura sauce?! My shrimp tempura roll was also not very good and it came with the thinnest drizzle of unagi sauce. Extra sauce cost $ 1. Lame. My friend’s tiger roll sounded good in theory, but was also a terrible let down.

Wow, what a hole in the wall joint. Definitely surprised about the quality of the sushi that comes out of this restaurant. Amazing. My friends were very hesitant to try this place, solely because it looks… well…lackluster to say the least. However, I took a shot and ordered a few of the rolls here. The fish is fresh and delicious, and they place a generous amount inside the rolls. The flavor itself is very natural and the ingredients certainly do shine here; none of the silly fuss with different sauces and the such. The price is very reasonable for their product, and would highly recommend for anybody that loves sushi.

This place was pretty good. Fair prices, for both normal and specialty rolls. There’s nothing here that’s crazy good or new, but it’s good for those who like sushi that’s not loaded with tons of different kinds of ingredients. I would definitely recommend take out!!! The place itself is so small, you drink out of plastic cups and eat off of plastic plates. I went with a party of 5 and we were of course very squished. I wouldn’t recommend a combo unless you really like all the rolls/want a soup, because the salad is pretty sad looking. Wait staff is nice enough, but nothing too special. Overall, this is a nice place to order a cheap roll/eat quickly by yourself.

After catching a performance at the Player’s Theater across the street, we decided to stop in for a quick bite of Sushi at this place. At first, I wasn’t sure what type of cuisine«Sushi Sushi» would be serving me, I was shocked to find out… that they are centered around Sushi. Who would have thought?! But seriously, this place was an incredible find, I’m surprised it was not more packed. It is set up with two long benches, each seat is set up with a little place mat, chop sticks, and sauce. I kept it simple and ordered a California roll. You get to watch the chefs make the sushi, this is the freshest sushi I have ever had, absolutely delicious! I cannot wait to come back here again, this place is adorable. I love the huge menu on the chalkboard. This place also offers a Nutella dessert sushi and deep fried Twinkies. Happiness is here!

Small spot in the heart of Macdougal st. Walking by this place can be fairly easy. Good sushi for a good price. Try the Nutella and banana desert for $ 5. It tasted amazing.

The Quick: Amazing quality, extremely reasonable speciality rolls, and fast delivery. The Details: I had to try this spot after a strong recommendation from a friend… I am fairly addicted to sushi after all. The specialty rolls are very inexpensive and absolutely delicious. I recommend the Salmon Lover roll with salmon and mango. Very refreshing with an interesting flavor profile. **after ordering from here 3 times, I’m increasing this to 5 stars. Love this spot! The Damage: $ 5.50 traditional and $ 9 speciality rolls … Go crazy!

Yea, 5 stars. Soho sushi’s got competition. Amongst a sea of take out food on MacDougal st what looks to be questionable fast food sushi is actually delicious, high quality, fresh fresh sliced well in sashimi form and prepared well in roll form. Standard rolls(salmon avocado, spicy tuna, etc) are 5.50 respectively with brown rice that’s made well and actually sticks to an inside out roll. While I’m generally a traditionalist the special rolls are GOOD at 9 bucks a pop. Try the tuna lovers it’s excellent. Offering a 15% coupon on seamless, super fast delivery, this place is firing on all cylinders. My only suggestion? A larger to go container of ginger dressing with the house salad. Welcome to the neighborhood happy to have you!!!

Okay– so I’m surprised to be writing this. Actually, the fact that I’m surprised is WHY I’m writing this. I’m kind of a food snob and I usually take the whole experience and context into account before giving my opinion on food or a food establishment. I could’ve had a horrible experience here and still rated Sushi Sushi 5-stars because their sushi was just THAT good. Walking in, I had my doubts. Looks like fast food sushi joint catering to the college crowd in the area. Nothing wrong with that but my expectations were set for average food. It’s a hole in the wall. Menu on the wall, walk up to the counter to place your order, sit on high stools that have plastic take out cups full of soy sauce at each setting. Now… The moment of truth. I ordered a tuna lover roll and a salmon avocado roll. My better half ordered two salmon rolls and a few pieces of salmon sushi a la carte. The rolls were FULL of fish, they didn’t skimp out and use rice as filler. Something I seldom see anymore. The fish was hella fresh and it had a really sweet, clean taste. Perfect sushi, tbh. Try this place.

The sushi at this little hole in the wall is delicious. The specialty rolls are so creative and yummy! The price is very affordable. I will definitely be back to try a few more rolls. The service was great, they were so great at making recommendations based on what we like.

While on a mission in NYC to find a good sushi restaurant where I can order out, or just enjoy a quick dine in, a friend of mine recommend Sushi Sushi. He loves the food, and admits he orders there many times in the uptown location near Colombia University. Finding out they have two locations is a plus in my busy book and more of a reason to give them a try. The atmosphere feels current, young, good music, warm colored wooden tables that blends well with the gold metallic wall, and my favorite, the rocky stone wall which delivers its naturality of the building, and its trendy edge. The cashier was quite and stuck to herself. Still she was well informed of the menu which was helpful. I ordered a special called The Manhattan which comes with my choice of miso soup or salad. The soup was great, it’s miso broth was rich and delectable. The fish was so fresh I might have been in Miami or San Francisco instead of Greenwich Village. The generous portions of fish caused me to do something never do in a sushi restaurant: fill up before finishing the meal. They use more fish and less rice so it’s a great deal. As for the taste, I loved it all, the tuna was particularly mouth-watering, I could taste the high quality freshness in the salmon(I love my salmon, so I know what I’m talking about here), and the sushi rice was firm and kept the sushi roll from deconstructing as I ate it. There were only a handful of diners the night I was there, and I can only attribute that to the fact that word may not have gotten around about how good this place is, as the restaurant has only been open since March. If you love high fresh sushi, good value for the price and warm welcoming service, Sushi Sushi is a tremendous find.
