CLOSED. It is too bad though inevitable. The chef stopped caring about two months before it closed and everything went downhill.

I order a Pad Thai special and waited TWOHOURS for delivery. I’m one mile away from this place… WTH could possibly take so long? NEVER. AGAIN.

AVOID for lunch delivery! The fish was gross and fishy, and even the shrimp tempura tasted a bit off. The rolls were falling apart and they got our order wrong. They were nice enough to redeliver the correct food though, but still the quality of the food is pretty disgusting.

Avoid this place if you want authentic sushi. I had the tuna tartare platter which was decent and served with a sesame sauce. But, the chirashi was really poorly made. Firstly, there was too much rice for a small amount of fish. And secondly the taste of the sushi rice was really awful. Also, the price was extremely high for poor quality $ 50 for two people? They should change the name from Masaru to Makeru. It’s hard to believe that the chef here trained at Blue Ribbon sushi. Maybe he was a busboy or dishwasher there… If you’re in a jiffy and in the area go across the street to Grand Sichuan.

Go for the oysters and live jazz! I found this place very delicious. The $ 1 oysters were really fresh, the service was quick and whatever they did to the citrusy salmon carpaccio was amazing. One thing to avoid is the seaweed salad, the sauce was too strong and it tasted as though it has been sitting around for a while.

It is close to the Chelsea market. The sushi are great. Seriously the price is reasonable. me and my friend had sushi plat for two, the portion is rather good. I end up stuffed with all kinds of fresh sashimi. I love the short ribs too, and duck rolls are so yummy as well. Besides the sushi, we had special oysters also, 1 dollar each, which is not bad at all! The drinks are nice, the bartender, she is great. she made some drinks that based on what I like, every drink tastes so different and good. I would come back.

The first few times I ordered from here, I got two of the nicer rolls, which were over-priced but tasted good. Today, I got a sushi & sashimi special and a spicy scallop roll. Terrible result that would warrant one star only if judged by today alone. The miso soup was slightly fishy/off, which should have been the first warning sign. The spicy scallop roll was just blah, but the real bummer was the sushi & sashimi. The sashimi was a disaster and I threw most of it out. I have possibly never seen such stringy fish in my life. Both the tuna and some of the other fish was a catastrophe that way. The salmon used in the roll on the side and on nigiri was on the slimy side. Made you not even feel bad that they were stingy and put only small salmon pieces in the roll. I had to go eat some cookies afterwards to wash down the taste of this disheartening meal. I don’t know if these guys think they can make a quick buck by selling poor-quality fish and using sub-par chefs or what, but I say peace out for good.

My expectations were low, so maybe that had something to do with my positive impressions. I would give it 4 stars if the atmosphere was a little more happening. It’s not that easy to find decently priced, decently prepared sushi locally. Or anywhere in Manhattan, actually. There’s no middle-of-the-road sushi that I’ve found. This place is close though. Good service, typical choices, fresh and good. I’d probably go again if I got the sushi crave and didn’t want to go far.

The owner has contacted me since my review on 3⁄23 and asked me all generic, routine questions and no follow up. I think they just don’t get it.

Ok. I am not sure why this place got some low ratings, but obviously those people did not try the omakase. The dishes were amazing and plentiful. I have had omakase at Sasabune and Morimoto and this is on par with that. the sushi is very well made, and the fish is ultra fresh. in the Omakase, the o-toro had gold flakes on it. This is a great restaurant. Also, they have a great brunch special $ 22.00 for a sashimi brunch which includes some amazing appetizers and also a fried egg and Kurobuta sausage. Check out the pictures which I posted on the omakase offerings. I also had a lychee bellini that was included in the brunch special, and it was very good.

Well, I got the runs as soon as I got home from eating at this place. It smelled so strongly of bad fish when we walked in(should have left immediately, only stayed out of laziness because it was raining – never doing that again!) that I decided to go the safer route and order everything vegetarian. My miso soup and seaweed salad were good/pretty standard but my avocado roll tasted a little odd(whyyyy did I keep eating it!!!). Everyone who worked there was very welcoming and nice – they should leave and go work elsewhere.

When we walked in and it smelled like fish, we should have left. We had planned to try out this neighborhood sushi bar, but rethought sushi after that smell. I got noodles with shrimp instead, and was served chicken. No big deal, but it tasted like it had been bathed in barbeque sauce. I left most of it on the plate. I would advise you go elsewhere.

The sushi at this place is really good. If you sit at the Sushi bar, they are incredibly nice and may even give you a couple free pieces. I ordered delivery for the first time today and was surprised how quickly it came and how good it was. I ordered the vegetarian sushi dinner because I felt like being healthy and was really excited by what they put together. It wasn’t a boring assortment of vegetables, it was all interesting stuff and a generous portion. If you live in Chelsea or this restaurant delivers to you, definitely give it a try. I order sushi at least a few times per month and this is my new go-to spot.

Not bad. Took advantage of the Unilocal deal for lunch. Fresh sushi. I had 2 rolls, the spicy tuna with crunch and the salmon avocado. My husband had the chirashi. Its a very big space, great food groups. Service was lacking however — I had to ask for water twice.

I had recently tried Blue Ginger down the street and thought it was okay. I feel like the fish at Masaru is fresher. supposedly they get shipments from Tokyo once in awhile. Had the hot sake on a cold night. It was a drier sake which I did enjoy. I had the Big Apple Roll which was really delicious. The fish was tender, the lobster inside was really tender, and in one bite there’s a good balance of flavors. My only problem with it is that the green sauce is a little too sour. Other than that it was really good. Also received a plate of small appetizers complimentary of the chef. Best part of the meal. REALLYWANTTOTRYTHESUSHICHEF’S OMAKASE… maybe on my birthday.

Ok. Are folks getting sushi fatigue in a city swimming with raw fish options? Sushi masuru brought to you by bond at alums is definitely a crowd pleaser. Unfortunately the crowd has yet to discover this joint. I’ve been here twice and have stuck to rolls thus far. Fish is very fresh and rolls are inventive and creative. Pricing is reasonable and portions are super generous. I’d add another star to sushi masuru for great price value but this joint lack a bit of «Je né sais crois energy». Overall nice joint and super reasonable prices to boot!

I have been to this place twice in a week. Great, moderately priced sushi place if your frequently in the Chelsea neighborhood. I went back with a friend tonight since we both were craving sushi. There are a couple other sushi joints on the same block but nothing beats their all day Sunday happy hour: $ 3 sake, $ 4 beers, $ 6 wine. My friend and I enjoyed a leisurely dinner and the staff was very attentive. Being a super fan of ginger dressing, I would definitely recommend their house salad which is big enough for two people. Their shrimp tempora, aloha lobster, spicy crab and California roll where amongst my favorites. This place may not be super busy around five but later in the night it livens up! I had good sushi and a good time — recommend for anyone in the area.

Value lunch special– $ 10 for two rolls plus a soup or salad. Three rolls are only $ 13.50. Very accomodating and friendly from Flushing staff. Salad was fresh and served with good ginger dressing. For sushi, I went with spicy yellow tail and salmon avocado. Sushi was very fresh. This new restaurant was quite a large investment for the owners– it is a huge space and quite pretty in the elevated rear. My nabe is fickle though, we have a few Japanese spots, but Chelsea clearly craves it’s comfort foods first and foremost so hopefully a new Japanese can stand the test of time in the ‘hood.

Working in the area I always look for good Japanese food, and Masaru definitely did not disappoint. Not only was the food delicious, but the staff and ambiance were great as well. You get a bang for your buck, all of the food is clearly carefully prepared and the full bar certainly is an added plus. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. The special Lobster roll and Big Apple roll are out of this world!
