It was just okay. Basic rolls were very overpriced — most had $ 16 — $ 18 price tags. Definitely not worth it in my book. Service was good — its only saving grace.

I was staying at the Plaza and the concierge touted this place as the sushi joint all the locals go to eat. Well if that’s the case, New Yorkers, I’m sorry but you have some horrible taste. My business associate and I made reservations but it was for naught. The restaurant was not very full when we arrived. We were shown to a small table near the window. The waiter came over and we ordered some wine. The list wasn’t particularly exciting, in my opinion. We decided to order a few things and go from there. The waiter did not speak good English and so it was really annoying communicating with him the entire time because he messed up or order and often didn’t seem to understand what we said to him. So we were supposed to get two orders of toro and two rolls to start with. Well we only got one order of toro which was fine because it was horrendous. I could tell both my colleague and I didn’t like it but we were too proud to admit to each other that it was bad. It was insanely fishy and not fresh. The rolls were okay, one was a spicy crab with shrimp tempura wrapped in cucumber. The other was some sort of eel roll. The presentation was sloppy as hell though it tasted okay. We ordered a second round of sushi, some yellowtail nigiri and two more rolls. The rolls were again, okay, and actually the yellowtail was quite good. I ordered their trio for dessert and I do have to admit the green tea tiramisu was insanely delicious. I wanted to lick the plate. The chocolate thing and the crème brulee were okay as well.

It’s a bit expensive for what you get, but I know it’s in the middle of Manhattan. I don’t know if my expectations are higher due to living in Japan with Navy family, but this place can be a bit of a hit or so so. Delivery did take a bit long, and I can’t review the restaurant itself due to only having take out or delivery done. I do love that they have window seating there, so you can look out the window and people watch, and there is a cute bar set up as well if you do not want a table. I think it would be a good place for a lunch date, or to meet some friends for dinner.

The rice was so dry The fish made me cry The service left me so so The flavours were bland I taste more licking my hand So to damo I tell you, don’t go The wasabi was brown Maybe pooped out by a clown The ginger, however, was fine The décor was cute Clean and astute Though don’t bother coming here to dine Also incredibly pricey For raw fish so dicey Perhaps caught in the park by a gnome? What a place it could be But go and you’ll see That you should have just stayed in your home

Used to be good. They must have changed the chef. Now bland and very poor quality. Also ridiculously overpriced for what you get. Go across the road to WholeFoods and get vastly superior sushi for half the price.

If you are in the Columbus Circle area, go for a drink at the nearby Library Bar at the Hudson Hotel(or, if summer, on their Terrace), then stop by Damo for some excellent sushi. Not the cheapest venue in New York, but worth the still not outrageous price. When we went the service wasn’t top of the line, but we rolled with it anyway. The crab avocado salad appetizer may not be your best bet, but the Shumai(dumplings with shrimp) certainly is. I loved the Neo roll. And, uncharacteristically for me in a sushi place, we went for dessert: try the triple crème brûlée.

Stopped in after a long day at work and wanted to try a different place. Bonus points this place is right down the street from my office in NYC, just past the time warner center. The place was not busy, it was a dreary rainy night in NYC, and we were seated right away. I don’t know what it was, maybe the weather or the restaurant, but when I walked in, the smell was a huge turn off. It was right in the front door when you walked in. The only way I could really describe it was rancid. The restaurant was very clean, and the smell was not present anywhere else in the restaurant, and most importantly, not by the sushi bar. Drinks were good, they have a nice drink list as well as wines by the glass. We split a couple of sushi rolls, the new York roll and the out of control roll, both which were good. The fish was fresh and delicious. We also sampled the edamame which came out piping hot, with a little salt, and the miso soup for warmth on this cold NYC night. I would definitely come back here for sushi, especially with no wait to be seated. Plus, on a nice day, it is a good place to people watch.

This place is dope. Is it pricey, not really, what do you expect from being in a high end area, cmon new yorkers. The sushi was great we got good dinner. The moscato, Umberto Fiore, was to die for, definitely recommend. Love it and at night they light candles. The waiters are humble and have great communication skills, was not disappointed, will definitely come back!

Very tasty but small portions for what it was and the cocktails were over-sweet(as they often can be in places like this). I may go back as it’s very close to my apartment and I liked the atmosphere but it would definitely be improved by more generous portions.

The food was amazing but the service was something yet to be desired. Apparently the waitstaff thinks it is ok to try to take your plates away if They think you are finished with your dish. I came across this problem twice. My boyfriend and I had to several times tell her we are still eating. After the third time we made it into a game. The moment we were officially finished we let our server know. She came back with the check in hand. I wanted to leave at this. My boyfriend told her we are not finished and would like to have some desserts. She looked upset. Not my problem at this point. If she wants to go home, she had my blessings. By far this experience was beyond annoying and depressing. Great location after work, but rushed service and poor manners. Absolutely horrible.

Good sushi place near Columbus Circle. Ambience was trendy and the restaurant had a lot of space. The sushi was good and creative, the special rolls had some nice flavors to them. Shrimp tempura appetizer was perfectly cooked, it tasted juicy and fresh. But unfortunately it was too pricey for the food and type of restaurant. Expect to spend at least $ 7 – 10 more per roll than any similar sushi place.

Over the years I’ve probably eaten at this place maybe 20 — 30 times. I always feel like it’s just good enough to go to, Meaning, I’m not telling my friend’s about it, but in a pinch it’s ok. Although the lycheetini’s are pretty slamming. Along with the Sakura roll, some edamame and a sapporo, I’m almost always satisfied. The service is usually on top of things and the turnaround once the food is ordered is definitely on par with the fastest out there, while remaining a good quality place. The food is fresh, the service reliable, and while the prices skew a little high, they’re appropriate for the neighborhood.

My brother was ranting and raving about this restaurant and desperately wanted me to try out this place. It’s right in the middle of Columbus Circle… AKA one of NY highest tourist spots. Luckily for us it wasn’t a busy day or a busy a time so we were seated right away. So it’s not the most expensive place, but the prices were a little high for sushi… but then again it is sushi and it is Columbus Circle. I enjoy sushi but i could always go for some Fried Tempura shrimp. The Waiters were very professional and pleasant. We didn’t have to wait long for appetizer(Which i love that) and once we were finish with that they served us our entrees. The Server placed our plates one by one and explained the craft of how the food was done and kind of fish we were eating and even told my brother how exactly he is suppose to eat his food. There is plenty of selections on the menu and they also have a list of their special Cocktails. I truly enjoyed the food and was stuff… but i kind of looked like a fool when i asked if they had anything similar to Bento Box. which then i knew i wasn’t as fancy as i thought i was! I would come here again on a date late night smiling with a handsome man across from me and then after take a horse ride around Central Park.(If i wanted to live the fancy life for a while.) but i would recommend it for anyone who want to catch up with friends or a casual date with someone special!

Not enthusiastic about this restaurant at all. One of the things that Sushi should never be is DRY. Both of the rolls I ordered we dry. Taste wise, they were uninspired for being a place that charges more than a normal price for sushi. The sake I ordered also not impressive. I’m just glad that I didn’t go overboard and order more items. Very disappointing.

This place is pretty pricey and the sushi isn’t that great. My sushi was poorly cut and the rolls were bland. The service is great, though, and it’s a hip little place with a full bar. Plus it’s in the Columbus Circle area so there’s that. But location and ambiance is what you’re paying for here. Don’t expect to be wowed by the food.

Always so good!” Nobu is my favorite restaurant in the world and I have visited it in many cities(recently in London at the Metropolitan Hotel where I stayed) but every time we have dinner at Sushi Damo Damo, very close to our home –I compare it with Nobu and sometimes it fares even better. We had dinner there recently and both the service and the amazing food are always great… Their version of the Rock Shrimp with a creamy sauce is even better than Nobu’s. Much more delicate flavor and such freshness! My brother –who claimed he did not like Japanese food and was hesitant about going with us– ordered the breaded Pork Cutlet and it was delicious, crispy and not greasy at ALL. The sushi is great and during lunch their Bento boxes are a great deal. This is a little known restaurant that to us in the neighborhood of Columbus Circle and the Time Warner Center is our secret gem.

Waiter was busy but still engaging. Food was mediocre. I expected more flavor. The descriptions were better than how the food actually tasted. Duck medallions — Overdone, resulting in slight chewiness. Sauce needed a little bit more umami. Rice less roll with blue crab, avocado, mango, tuna — great concept, but I couldn’t taste the mango or the tuna(the main components of the dish!). I actually called the waiter over because I was afraid I received the wrong item. So this was a bit disappointing. Avocado can overpower delicate fish like tuna or crab, and they just used too much. Blackened tuna roll — I asked for mango to be included because I just really had a craving for it. Once again, was disappointed by the lack of flavor and too much avo. The great thing about sushi is the layers of flavor and those little surprises you get with each bite. I ordered a roll at a time, each time craving a bit more. Sigh. But the drinks were good and strong and definitely did not lack flavor. The bartender/server was great and I left with a better impression of him than I did at the beginning. For a solo solo dinner before heading home was decent because it’s right by the train. I would probably come back with girlfriends after work. Side note — it’s very dark in here! Not good for Instagram food pics.

Gostoso! Mas já comi em lugares melhores, achei o arroz muito doce. O preço com gorjeta foi USD17 caro, pois o mesmo prato que peço em outros restaurantes japoneses saiu por 10 a 12 dólares…

This is restaurant is by far the worst sushi restaurant in all times. The smell of the restaurant is bad once you enter and the tables are not cleaned properly. Moreover, the staff are very rude, smelly and arrogant. The waiter wasn’t happy that we brought our baby and that my wife is wearing a scarf so he started by throwing menus and then ask us what we want to order immediately and when I asked him to give me 2 minutes he wined. When it comes to food, you cannot imagine how bad and uneatable the soft-shell crab and other appetizers. and the sushi orders cannot be served to animals rather than pricey restaurant. Moreover, the bill is unreasonably unacceptably huge for dirty food I regret every second I spent in this bad restaurant and I believe it is a shame to have it in this great location
