There’s really nothing like getting screamed at in the lobby of your building by a delivery guy. My colleagues and I ordered on Seamless from Sushi a la Kawa, and tipped via Seamless. Explicitly on the order we said that the delivery must come up through the freight elevator, and have ID. We gave instructions where the freight elevator was too. We received a phone call from delivery asking us to come down. We explained that if we had to leave our office to grab lunch, we would have gone and picked it up and we couldn’t come down as we were in meetings. The delivery guy snapped that he was busy, and we explained via phone several times he needed to come upstairs as instructed — he kept yelling into the phone that he was busy. We gave in because our food was being held hostage. And when we went downstairs to grab it, we didn’t get an apology — we just got yelled at even more. If your delivery guys can’t deliver, don’t join Seamless.

Went in to order take out at lunch and it too 45 minutes to prepare my order in addition to one other person. Had the shrimp fried rice and miso soup. Ordered the rices spicy(SPECIFICALLY), and they do not make it spicy. Soup was good.

By far this is the best sushi via delivery I have had in Fidi! Best spicy tuna rolls & tuna tar tar.

Their chicken teriyaki lunch special was nothing special; I appreciated the quality chicken and good broccoli, but it was average. 15 – 20 minute wait, so order before you pick up if you’re in a rush.

working in FIDI of course i’m as busy as a bee, right? aren’t you all? sushi a la kawa is my three minute lunch hack. takes me 30 seconds to order. comes when it comes. i consume in 150 seconds. bam. nearly uninterrupted 14-hr workday for the win! seriously i think i’ve gotten maybe three orders over the past year that i was unhappy with. 97% happiness rate? i’ll take it!

Probably my favorite sushi spot in the Financial District. They are a little pricey, otherwise I would give them 5 stars.

I have ordered from here a few times in the past and have been very satisfied with my order as well as delivery time. However, this past time was AWFUL. My friend and I ordered 4 different sushi rolls. As I was eating my first Philadelphia Roll, I felt a piece of plastic in my mouth. It grossed me out so much that I didn’t want to continue eating. I called the restaurant to ask for a refund as I was not going to eat food with plastic inside. They told me «this happens sometimes». Ok, mistakes are made, I can almost get behind that even though I would hope for a more careful food preparation. What I cannot get behind was the customer service. The woman I spoke with told me they needed to come pick up the order so they could see the piece of plastic before I could be refunded. She asked when I would like them to come and I told her ASAP as it’s a Sunday night and I have work early in the morning. Fast forward to over an hour later and I’ve hear nothing from them.(I live about 5 min away walking). When I called back she was unapologetic saying there’s «no deliveries around you so we can’t come tonight». I would have appreciated 1) believing the customer that your food had plastic in it 2) common courtesy of a phone call so I wasn’t waiting around for over an hour when I had plenty of other things to get done tonight. I can’t say I will be ordering from them again. So rude to their customers.

Ordered the sushi deluxe via seamless and the food arrived within half an hour as promised. The fish looked fresh. The salmon had a nice sweetness to it. The rolls were expertly rolled. No complaints. I will definitely order from these guys again. This is the best sushi spot in Fidi that I’ve tried.

Impolite. They lie to customers. Ordered dinner. Said on the way 2x’s. Then nothing. Nothing. Idiots. Who knows what happens behind the counter when preparing the sushi. Be forewarned. Don’t eat or order from here.

Best option for sushi delivery we’ve found in FiDi. Generous portions, fresh fish, great combinations. We ordered the chilean seabass roll, tiger roll and spicy scallop roll. It was so good I wish more of it would fit in my stomach but we were stuffed. Definitely ordering from there again.

I am actually surprised by all of the poor ratings; I’ve been going to/ordering from Sushi A La Kawa(AKA Oka Sushi) for a little over a year and I have never been disappointed. I typically get the Spicy Seafood Soup(which is, actually, really spicy!) and 2 rolls — fills me up, is really tasty, and really reasonably priced. great for take-out, great for dining in! highly recommend.

Hmm I dunno why this place has such a low average. Though it seems like most of the bad reviews came more than 2 years ago. I think this place is great for takeout sushi. The portions are large, fish pieces plenty generous and presentation is good. Its not destroyed/eaten up looking. Delivery is quick as well. What more do you want from takeout sushi? Quality is pretty dam good.

Finally, a place with more than just tempura shrimp. A good & varied menu for lunchtime.

Sushi rolls were good but nothing special. I got the sweet potato roll and a California roll and my boyfriend got two rolls as well. It took an hour for them to deliver it instead of 30 mins. I will order from here again and see if the delivery takes the same amount of time.

I agree with Jim U: «this place is bad across the board!» I eat sushi at least once a week so I was really hoping this was a decent sushi spot for casual lunch. I ordered a miso soup &2 maki rolls containing tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. How does a Japanese restaurant mess up miso soup?! It was like sipping boiling water. The seafood inside the sushi had the texture of butter(and not in a good way). I took one bite and got up to leave… that’s never happened to me before. Avoid at all costs. The search continues for edible food in the Financial District…

Wow, this place is bad across the board! I think it’s the only place on Seamless Web where I can actually order soba too — what a travesty! I ordered the seafood soba($ 14), and my girlfriend had an Alaska roll($ 5.50) and a California roll($ 4.50). The seafood in the soba consisted of imitation crab, a previously frozen scallop cut into two loaded with STPP, some rubbery calamari, a couple of medium shrimp, and some small clams. Using such cheap ingredients, the dish was destined for failure. Worse, the broth was transparent and lacked any distinct taste. It was basically boiled water. The noodles were okay though. Overall, the soup was barely edible and rang in at about twice its fair market price. I additionally sampled my girlfriend’s sushi rolls and found them to be even worse. For example, the Alaska roll used smoked salmon — really? Nothing fresh here. Avoid. (1.5 stars)

I might be a hater, but this place is more like Sushi a La Crapa. I haven’t found the need to eat here but I can vouch for their insanely fast delivery. Often times I wonder if they’ve premade the sushi(most likely) and just throw it in some containers and rush out to get to me. I have really only ordered here due to the rest of my office looking to score cheap sushi. Just cheap mind you, not good. The salmon and unagi nigiri pieces are beyond sad. Dry meat and very little of it are thinly laid across the bed of rice. Most of their rolls have little taste to it and I don’t understand how people can keep coming back to this place. I’ve had a lot of mishaps via delivery in the past, and the Chinese guys on the phone have been annoyed enough in Mandarin to say, «It is just food! You should eat it!» I guess they haven’t tried their own food.

Well, this place is now CLOSED — and has moved about 50 feet West into Oka Sushi as they are now sharing a space with the restaurant. Check out my review of Oka Sushi( ) which will encompass both businesses.
