Lots of variety(some choices not even Chinese). Pork and shrimp dumplings were delicious and cheap, about the same price as dim sum cart restaurants. Stopped by for a quick snack and glad we did!

This store is a smaller store accompanied by a not so much larger bakery right next door; therefore it is very easy to miss if not looking for it intensely. Sunlight Bakery is literally a hole in the wall — they cook almost everything in front of you. Though, if you ask for certain things they most likely might not have them as they tend to run out quickly if you come later in the day. I was really craving some rice noodles with fish balls(the lady with the cart by the MTA isn’t there on Sundays) so I decided to stop here. It was an average amount for 1.75 but their fishballs aren’t whole — they’re sliced in half. I also got some dim sum items such as the bean curd with pork and shrimp dumplings. The shrimp dumplings were on the scrawny side, 4 for 2 $ but they tasted okay. I would definitely return to Sunlight Bakery as it is convenient and does the job of satisfying my cravings.

You’re not paying for customer service. You’re paying for cheap, fast food that’s not too shabby. I usually take mine to go.

Rice noodle rolls(cheong fun) made right in front of you. It’s so cool! You tell them what you want(you can order by number if you don’t speak cantonese), and if you order one of their cheong fun, one of the Chinese ladies will ladle a rice flour/water mixture into a flat pan, add in whatever ingredients you want, and put it in a steamer. A minute later, they’ll take the pan out and you’ll see a white sheet of cooked noodle, which will be rolled up and cut into pieces by one of the ladies there. An order runs from about $ 1 — $ 3, depending on what ingredients you choose to add into the cheong fun. I got 1 order of the fresh shrimp, cilantro and scallion, which put me back just $ 2! So awesome! They also have other items in their menu, like pan fried fish cake with corn, which I would love to try next. There’s something about this place that reminds me of the tiny random neighborhood eateries you find in Hong Kong that look completely unassuming from the outside and only specialize in one or two things, but what they specialize in is extremely good. I also love the fact that it’s a little hole-in-the-wall, and only the Chinese locals go there. It’s definitely not haute cuisine, but all their menu items remind me of my childhood and this is why I’m such a huge fan of this place. Can’t wait to go back and try all their different variations of cheong fun, as well as everything else!

This is a new part of Chinatown for me, and having never explored it I decided to check Unilocal and try a few new places. This is definitely one of the hole in the walls I’m glad I got to stop by. They sell little dim sum items for about two dollars apiece, but their specialty is the rice noodles. When I was reading all the reviews I couldn’t understand what the big deal was about the rice noodles in this area, that is, until I tried it for myself. When they say freshly steamed, they literally mean that rice noodle was some sort of a milky white liquid before it goes in the machine to be steamed, and come out deliciously chewy rice noodles. Add some shrimp, or sausage, or fishball, or even watercress, and you have a delicious rice noodle dish to be topped with sweet soy sauce. With three little stools, this is much better a takeout place, but after order after order of rice noodles here just in the last week, I’m totally sold!

I’ve been eating rice flour rolls my entire life and only recently found out how they’re made. A ladle of milky batter into a stainless steel tray. Slide the tray into a steamer box. That’s it. The bakery is on the right and the dim sum is on the left.

Rice rolls made to order. Menu is quite lengthy but I’ve only had the rolls the couple of times I’ve been here. The shrimp w scallions roll was excellent. Shrimp cooked just enough and the rice noodles were delicate and soft. It should be eaten right away since they’re made to order.

Almost don’t want to write a review for this place, because it is already a tiny hole-in-the-wall and I don’t want to have to share my amazing spot for FRESH rice rolls(cheurng fun)! But they deserve the business(and I dream of an expansion to a more convenient location). It appears to be a family-run operation, and tastes like it too. Soft, chewy, fresh rice rolls are the things to get here. Made to order, with a variety of meat/veg toppings(w/cilantro & scallions), and rock-bottom prices. Unfortunately, there are only 3 stools, so its basically a take-out only-venture. If you love cheurng fun(I do!!) you must come here!(the dried shrimp is my favorite)

I got the beef stew cheung fun for $ 2.50. I got the ham, egg, and lettuce macaroni soup for $ 3.50. The above two were made to order in front of you. I got the spare rib with black bean sauce and fried egg rice for $ 4. I got the spare rib with black bean sauce and sausage rice for $ 4. The store is very small.

Tucked into an easy-to-miss location, you might have to turn back because you will overlook it! Made right on the spot, if you’re a fan of steamed rice noodle, this is a must-try! I’ve never had steamed rice noodle this fresh! Prices are too affordable, too. They have a large variety of breakfast and lunch options, but people come here for their famous rice noodle; yum! Come one, come all! p. s. Stool seating for only two. Best for take out.
