Don’t be frightened by their strange interior decoration: This place is the only Caribbean take out I trust in the city. My favorite dish is the stew chicken and they do not hold back on the portions. I’m nice and full and ready for a nap! A month ago, I overheard someone ordering split pea soup and I knew that was going to be my new favorite strawberry dish. Perfect for this cold weather. Write this down: Stew chicken with extra sauce, Split pea soup, or the red bean soup. You won’t want to eat anywhere else.

2.5 Stars Strawberry Restaurant was okay. There appear to be only a handful of Caribbean restaurants peppered in the neighborhood. I stumbled upon Strawberry yesterday while running errands. The fragrant scent of cooking meat was emanating from within, so I decided to take the chance. My boyfriend got the Jerk Chicken with Rice and Plantains. It was adequate and mildly spicy. Nothing to phone home about, but totally edible. Sigh. I got the Stew Peas — Stew Peas is by far my favorite Jamaican entrée. I ordered it, however, knowing that it’s a rare occasion that I like Stew Peas from a restaurant. Well, I decided to take the chance — especially because Strawberry Restaurant served theirs with pigtail, which basically never happens because few Jamaican spots serve pork. Anyhow, it was decent going down, but a few hours later, my opinion changed… Feel free to use your imagination. This is more of an eat-in takeout spot than an actual restaurant. There is a counter where you can pick up your order once it’s ready, and the 4 – 5 tables give you the options of eating quickly, rather than heading straight out. If I’m ever desperate for Caribbean food, I will consider Strawberry Restaurant. My boyfriend, however, loved it. Perhaps head there, but avoid the Stew Peas.
